I love the HBK-4P. It's quick, and it melts armor when you get close with it. I like to shadow an atlas and pop out when people are distracted, though I've also had some success going the long way around a sniper's nest and ambushing them from the rear, popping rear armor or damaged arms.
Chain-firing 9 ML is also fun. Sometimes people get intimidated by it and run away, because the lasers never stop pew-pewing.
It's weird, but in the last two weeks I haven't been able to do nearly as well with the 4P as I used to. The CTF-1X with 5 LLAS, on the other hand, is a beast - this was the opposite a few months back. It has an almost identical heat profile to the 4P, just fatter and longer range.
It could be the PPC-fest hurting Mediums, but it doesn't feel that way. I do know that most pilots seem to be at a loss over what to do when I shoot them with 5xLLAS; they only panic after I melt a hole in them. Everyone knows the 4P = death, but haven't seemed to catch on with the Cataphract. I am not complaining.

Wait, looking it up. What's the difference between a Dragon and a Grand Dragon? I mean it gets double heat-sinks but we can already do that in game.
The Grand Dragon line is just a big off shoot variant line of the Dragon. It got some upgrades as standard and in order to facilitate extended operations its loadout is energy focused. As a result, it tends to run PPCs instead of having a ballistic arm.

Look I think we can all agree that the mech they really need to add is the Fafnir and its signature weapons.
One shottin' mediums all day erry day.

It might be a little psychology. Seeing a list of nine medium lasers pop up on the target info is super eye-catching. Makes me want to blow them up all the time, to the exclusion of sometimes more dangerous threats.
Also, the deliciousness of blowing up a boombox filled with lasers cannot be overstated.
I retract my statement as I have finally found the 100 ton mech I remembered most from the way back, the Behemoth!
As we kinda played loose with the rules I would retrofit this into a 3 guass monstrosity and C3 unit. Then using a phoenix I would hop skip across the map with a c3 slave unit and get behind whoever I was playing with and proceed to annilate his team with fully a fully accurate barrage of supersonic slugs.
Seriously though. I would tool around in one of these in MW3 and MW4 multiplayer all the time. 360 torso turning was crazy good and fun.
Imagine the current hp system. Instead of 1 ballistic RA, 2 laser LT 1 missile CT, they are omni hardpoints. You can put what fits on any spot. In essence, universal hardpoints. Bam, Omnimechs.

I kinda feel like there needs to be a reason to strip armour from your mech, aside from straight tonnage. It costs so little to add armour there is no reason to not max everything out, aside from maybe a ton or 1/2 from the legs or superfluous arms. Maybe lowering armour tonnage could increase maneuverability or something? Can't really tie it to speed, since the weight gets used up anyway.... I dunno. It just seems odd that every mech is built as a tank, much unlike tabletop. I mean a stock locust has TWO armour points on the arms. One structure. Can't see that being the norm...

Mechs I want to see: Blackhawk-Kurita Omnimech, and a KING CRAB.
(The King Crab is one of the only mechs to have two AC20s in the canon, another being the Hunchback-IIC - which has terrible speed, zero armour, and no ammo.)

Hmm...I have an Ilya, and I could use two more CTF's to elite out the chassis. I'll have to look into the 1X when I get back home.

Speaking of annihilating things...I'll just happily roll around in an Annihilator. Quad-LB10Xes all day e'reyday! The sound alone (especially since the sound overhaul) would result in me having to change my pants every time I pull the trigger.

Some of those Annihilator builds are very interesting. I never played battletech past the first iteration of the board game. Hence I didn't know about "heavy" gauss rifles or the much more interesting light AC2. 8 AC2's? M-M-M-Monster dakka!
Wait, a 5 Gauss variant? Thats not even possible given the availablity of critical slots.
Triple edit.... Damnable clan tech!

Man, if you guys are looking for the king of shotguns, you need to see the HAG-40. Too bad it's crazy-future tech, and will never see the light of MWO day.
Looking at the weapon lists, it's really too bad there probably won't be something for ballistics between a Machine Gun and an AC2. Having an option between 0.5t and 6t would be nice for some lighter-weight variants with multiple ballistic hardpoints. Hell, even giving us Machine Gun Arrays would make me happy.

We already have two 80 ton 'mechs. Both of them kinda suck. We have no 75 tonners at all.
This accurately reflects my level of surprise.

Also, the Avatar omnimech. Man, I wonder how they'll deal with Omnimechs.
Do you think Clan chassis will be more limited and less customisable to try and balance them, perhaps?

I don't think DaMoon needs a reason.

Well then it's the worst possible Dragon variant.
Lasers are lame people.

I will pilot only a single omnimech.

"Oh what a day, what a LOVELY DAY!"
This is a new concept to me. Care to explain what that means? Also what it could mean for MWO?
That's a moral failing on your part, but I won't judge.
My mistake - it looks like it was @m!ttens who posted the CTF-1X 5xLLAS + XL325 build.
