Thoughts on a hybrid campaign
My Idea - Hybrid Campaign: My basic idea was to run a DnD PBP campaign where all of the combat and maybe a few other skill challenges or encounters are played out on a virtual tabletop (maptools, roll20 etc + skype). By keeping these sessions limited to just combat the time commitment could be kept shorter leading (hopefully) to more flexibility for the participants. Story and plot development and progression would continue on the forum until the next encounter.
Has anyone tried this out before? Anyone see any glaring problems?
Note: This would be my first time DMing, so part of the goal here is to give myself enough time to develop story / hooks / encounters without having weeks of disengagement between sessions (something I fear could happen if I tried to run a more traditional weekly Skype game or something similar).
And where does the newborn go from here? The net is vast and infinite.
