Skyward Sword was good, I enjoyed it enough, but I never felt like playing it a second time. I liked it better than Twilight Princess, which really just felt like some kind of fucking chore to get through. Wind Waker and Ocarina I could play over and over again. I think what keeps me from going back to Skyward Sword for another play through is how empty it feels. There's all this sky to fly around in, but almost nothing to see or do. It feels unfinished.

The sky was likely intended to feel empty. After all, Skyloft itself is nothing but chunks of the surface that was sent skyward to keep the remaining Hylians safe. In a way that is similar to The Wind Waker where the survivors of the Great Flood lived among the islands.
Unlike the sea in TWW, travel through the sky is quite fast. And there is a good amount of exploration to be done on the Surface.
Rollers are red, chargers are blue....omae wa mou shindeiru
Atmosphere is one thing, but from a gameplay standpoint, it's really not much fun to be up in the sky when you're not on Skyloft doing side-quests. Skyloft has a nice dense pack of characters and side-quests, but every other island is one-note, or zero-note (until you find the Goddess Cubes... on the surface). I would've liked a few more settlements than just the one town and strangely remote tavern to make the place feel... I dunno, populated by a number of people that made sense for how long they've been up there. I think that could've been done without sacrificing the open-yet-isolated feel of the sky.
Wind Waker had several major islands with a large number of people, and islands that you could explore for goodies as soon as you landed on them. I didn't really appreciate the Sea when I was younger, but it's kind of nice in how it encourages exploration of each square. The Sky also has little treasure islands, but nothing as involved as some of the Sea's puzzle/treasure islands, and they all require you to get a Goddess Cube on the surface before the chest can be opened.
Anyway, that being said, that's really my only major complaint about Skywar Sword. The Sky felt empty, but the surface was full of puzzles and stuff to look for, the combat was fun, and it has some of my favorite items in Zelda history. My favorite being the Beetle, followed closely by the sniper-rifle Bow.
Anyone got WiiWare recommendations? I'm probably gonna grab Retro City Rampage, but I don't know what else is worthwhile beyond that.
World of Goo
Lost Winds 1/2
Lost Winds looks pretty cool. World of Goo too, thanks. Are there any good 2 player Wii Ware games?
World of Goo can be played co-op with up to 4 wii-motes, drop in/drop out. I'd also recommend Tetris Party, Doctor Mario Online Rx, and the Excitebike remake.

The Beetle completely changed the dungeon design in a good way. The beetle allowed you to survey an area before you acted and tried things. You suddenly knew what to expect up ahead and what the solutions to puzzles or situations might be. It was probably the first Zelda game where I felt like every puzzle had a logical solution.
It's an original Atari game, published to NES by MB games. Probably lost to the ages through rights issues and the immortal stuttering beast that is the continuous sale and bankruptcy of the Atari name.

The arcade version has been on many of the Midway arcade compilations too.
As a side - just how terribly gimped is RB3 Wii? It's one of the games I really miss having from my 360 and thought maybe I'd yardsale/Goodwill a guitar for it.

I'm talking specifically about the NES version, but maybe we'll see an arcade compilation sooner.
As for RB3, I have it, it doesn't seem gimped. Big DLC library, and works fine with guitar hero controllers. If you're playing guitar on expert, definitely pick up an RB guitar, the extra fret buttons for solos are pretty much required for the harder stuff, especially if you need a Megadeth fix.

"The GamePad screen is the player's version of Sam Fisher's arm computer or OPSAT (OPerational SATellite uplink)," explains Blacklist producer, Liu Jun. "Sam uses his OPSAT throughout the game to access and control his gadgets and to communicate with his team.
"With the Wii U version, the player gets to experience first-hand how OPSAT works for Sam and how it feels to operate it. In the Wii U version, players can see what Sam sees through the OPSAT and it's a very powerful feeling to choose how to use this gadget to make decisions as the leader of Fourth Echelon."
Gadgets are a key part of Splinter Cell tradition, a series that offers tantalising glimpses of military technology's bleeding edge. "Originally, Sam's OPSAT was based on real-world military prototypes and secret research programmes," states Jun, "but our inspiration is not just military. We look at exciting innovations and we find inspiration from the latest technology."
It's important to tread the line, though. A few years ago, flying killer robots would have been more Terminator than tactical espionage, but Blacklist's Tri-rotor finds its place here, thanks to the US government's deployment of similar drones overseas (thanks, Obama!).
You'll pilot it remotely to scout ahead, mark enemies and even explode with frag grenade force. Like ZombiU players whipping out their backpacks and glancing away from the TV, you'll need to pick your moments carefully, unless you want a bullet in the back. And in most scenarios, you don't.
The GamePad doesn't just help with gadgets. "Players are going to be constantly making tactical choices on the fly, such as, 'should I kill this guard or just knock him out?' or, 'should I use a Five-Seven with a silencer, or a shotgun?'" explains Jun. "We use the GamePad screen to help players make tactical choices on the fly, without breaking the game's flow or story's tension. So, at any moment and by simple touch, you can pick any of your weapons or gadgets, or switch from lethal to non-lethal takedowns."
You know what that means... Hype train is GO for Wind Waker!

I want to play WW ... resisted the urge to do so illegally and never got the chance to do so legally ... but man does that make me have to make some serious decisions concerning budgets and financing at the end of year. Damn you Nintendo ... and your great games too.

I'd sell plasma to get WW HD. Unfortunately, there is no where nearby to do so.

Warner Bros. Interactive have confirmed the preorder Deathstroke content for Batman: Arkham Origins will be available for Nintendo Wii U.
Over the past few months there’s been an ongoing discussion as to whether the preorder content will or will not be available, a discussion fuelled by conflicting retailer advertising.
Though with a statement from the game’s publisher handed to Aussie-Gamer this morning, we can all put to rest any doubt or concern surrounding the preorder content and its availability on Wii U.
The Deathstroke content pack allows players to play as the character Deathstroke in Batman: Arkham Origins‘s challenge mode, two character skins and two additional challenge maps.
Also there's too many games coming out! And they're all so expensive!
Even if I only buy one game a month that's $300 by the end of the year, and I know some months I want more.
Do people seriously buy all the games coming out they want to the tune of $300+? It takes me like 3-4 months to finish a game; why shell out to have them sit on the shelf when I could just wait and buy them for $20-$30 when I actually want to play them?
Except for major Nintendo shit, that never drops in price for a year or more anyway and even then only a bit.

Yeah, EA has been slowly admitting what we knew all along. Not that I care, considering there are so few EA titles I'm interested in anyway. It's just odd that the company did this whole "Wii U won't run Frostbyte!" song and dance instead of just saying what that dude just said.

Missed this at first. I like to get games right away if they are something I really really want. This is particularly true if I intend to show "support" since companies usually pay the most attention to first week sales. If you notice we never hear about LTD sales numbers for most games. Obviously some titles have legs, but it doesn't seem to spark publisher/developer interest in more titles unless you're talking about Nintendo (which tends to anticipate that their titles might not have a big initial sell through but will have long legs).
If it's something I'm on the fence about I'll wait for a sale of some kind however.
Huh. Frankly, I don't see how a publisher's shortsightedness is my problem. If anything I want to encourage them to sell me the game for a cheaper price at a later date, since I don't get enough game time to keep up with releases anyway.

Wasn't the original claim that they'd tried running Frostbyte, but it would just need too much tweaking to get it running properly for it to be worth it (because the Wii U is a failed console not worth developing for)?
I don't think they ever outright said that the Wii U is completely unable to run Frostbyte,
So Official Nintendo Magazine (UK) did a write up on the Wii U version of Splinter Cell. I have to say that after reading this (and seeing the trailers previously) I might actually pick this one up. There's just too many games coming out in the latter half of the year!
I wonder what kind of concessions they'd have to make to get a Wii U running Frostbite 3
Probably no concessions, just programming with different architecture in mind. The problem is that it would take anywhere from a week to a month to get it running well depending on how much staff (and staff time) you wanted to throw at it. And that costs money. Apparently money EA doesn't think is worth investing.
LOL. My position was always that it could with tweaks but I guess there be caveats.
It boggles my mind they ever tried to assert otherwise. Like I've said before, just fucking say you don't want to develop for the system instead of making up crap about Frostbite being too hard.

I hate how the Stupid Club Nintendo coins expire. I had 180 expiring and had to spend them, but they had absolutely nothing I wanted so I ended up getting F-Zero X just so I wouldn't lose the coins. I've never played it before. How does it hold up?
