As far as worst Soilwork album goes, I'm going to have to give it to The Panic Broadcast. There's maybe 1 or 2 songs on there that I really enjoy. Also, no love for A Predator's Portrait?
My issue with A Predator's Portrait is that I love half the songs and forget the other half, and also that it feels like a transition piece to Natural Born Chaos. But hey, some of those are indeed pretty fucking fantastic...
Any news on that? Still waiting to hear if it's a real threat/plot or just something the French authorities put together on a bunch of tangential evidence (his ravings, his wife's gun collection, etc.)
According to the BBC, it was a bunch of tangential evidence. Someone on another forum pointed out that his blog has pictures of him putting illegal license plates on his car, too (the legal ones have the EU flag on them which is a Jewish conspiracy or something).

I want to know how this will affect his RPG.
Didn't he also say that he wasn't going to release an expansion for the RPG because expansions are a Jewish conspiracy?
Tangential evidence so far it seems. Breivik sent him a copy of his shitty manifest before the attacks, he spouts retarded anti-semitic nonsense online and his wife bought a bunch of guns. French police are going to have to let him go unless they find something more concrete, though.
I never could give a shit about Varg and the things he gets up to. Not that I particularly care about churches burning down beyond it being just generic arson.

Oh hey, Testament is coming around these parts again! Maybe I'll go see them...
...as special guests on a bill with Lamb of God and Killswitch Engage headlining, with Huntress providing support
Not worth the cost of a ferry ride... or a ticket, for that matter
Considering Artillery, Helloween, Overkill, Kreator, Morbid Angel, Vader, Saxon, and Raven are also coming around this fall, I think I can safely give that tour the finger.

New KSE is pretty great. I gave it a few spins during my run today. For KSE its heavy as hell, easily their most aggressive and complex work. "The Hell In Me" is a really kickass tune, aside from the weird singing at the beginning that sounds like Glen Danzig doing his best Maynard impression.
I like Howard as a singer more, but I like Killswitch as a band better with Jesse, honestly. He doesn't have the ability to carry the band with his vocals so the band steps up, and he's basically window dressing with some catchy choruses.
That Harm's Way song has a good bit of D-beat/Swedish influence there, I can see fans of Trap Them, Entombed, Disfear, Skitsystem and newer Converge stuff digging that. The riffs were pretty basic stuff but I dug it anyway, good and angry.
Been digging this Norse band called .Posthum, the sophomore effort is a bit more interesting than the 2009 debut, not sure if this live footage does them much justice, but you can get an idea of how they incorporate these dreamy elements into the harsher playing:
Great of those guys to do that together, could've only been better if Peavy Wagner and Rock 'n' Rolf also joined in, though sometimes these things can get a bit cluttered (for example, Destruction's "Alliance of the Hellhoundz").
Impossible for a fan of German power metal not to smile at this:

Eh, maybe a little bit but they don't have any of the Swedish d-beat vibe. The guitar tone/riffing is way more Kurt Converge (though he records a lot of these bands so they all sound similar), though the lyrics are more straight forward pent up pissed off hardcore. Musically I'm actually reminded of a lot of old DC post-hardcore or a totally angry Fugazi which obviously influenced all of the bands mentioned to some extent. Stray from the Path have been around for some time, they've got 4-5 records. Most of it is good.
Haha, I was posting abiut Stray on the first page and nobody listened :-(
New song they released a few days ago is straight RAtM worship. Pretty cool, it almost sounds like nu metal but with all of the anger and intensity that 'those' bands lack.
Apologies, man, I missed your post, though I may have subconsciously blotted it out if I wasn't in a hardcore mood, which I've been more into lately. Yeah, the verse in this new tune is totally Tom Morello-inspired, but they become their usual selves at a few points. I think it must even be deliberate with the 'now I know my enemy' lyrics, and the cop car refrain at the end there. I hope this isn't going to be the norm for them, though...
Also, I think I must have totally missed the newest Arkaik record from last year, but it's decent if you dig Decapitated, Necrophagist or the other West Coast modern death scene like Odious Mortem, Decrepit Birth, etc. This isn't the best song the album, but:
No worries, and they've covered a couple Rage songs so it's almost certainly intentional. From what I've heard the rest of the album is more like their usual stuff, which is good; I do enjoy the song but I don't think I could take an entire album of it.
Did you ever check out Rings of Saturn? Their newest album, Dingir, is just wall-to-wall riffs. It's absurdly technical and catchy deathcore, and the songwriting is surprisingly solid (the instrumental track is great).
Goddamn, I didn't realize that Thurston Moore was in Twilight now...
While on the topic of chaotic hardcore stuff, does The Chariot have any music of quality whatsoever? All I've seen or heard of them is truly vapid, boring dissonant 101 hardcore chords, monotonous and indistinct screaming, and their live gigs seem focused on just the usual jumping around, stagediving etc, but I hear no good music...
Oh man, this was pretty nice! The album as a whole feels like a death (or deathgrind?) band came up with the idea of doing a sludge record
Dunno if this song works on its own though, it might be a "listen through in one sitting"-thing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9dhqHna7pU
Man, this band is FANTASTIC for fans of Botch, Converge, Burnt by the Sun, etc.
Yeah Stray is pretty damn good!
I can't really attribute anything original to them, it's just that they do that modern-ish coarse variant of hardcore very well and solid in all respects.
They're kind of a "once every six month"-listen and each time you wonder why you didn't remember they were that good.
Thanks for that new track though, Blakout! I was kinda hoping the vid autothrall posted was some new material
Edit: Godammit, dunno if I agree with that "groove" vibe they've started aiming for though... :<
Godz, Halestorm sucks. It's like if Carrie Underwood fronted a band with some heavier 90s Metallica rock/metal riffing, only Carrie Underwood is much catchier as she is. This band uses the official domain name of 'Halestormrocks'... This band won a Grammy for best Hard Rock/Metal performance...
This won a GRAMMY, in the same world that includes Summoning, who should just get a retroactive Grammy every year until they've gotten one off every album. All suicide pacts will be validated...
Oh, I get it, like the Def Leppard "Love Bites"...or the Judas Priest one...with your own naughty spin on it! SOD OFF!
I now offer you this duly percussive cleansing of your souls...

The new Defeater album is killer. I got it on LP and it's a beautiful package with a fully sized, coloured art/lyric book. I like it when bands put that much attention to detail into their work.
The cover for the new Touche Amore looks like it's for a shoegaze band. I'm still stoked for it though.
Xibalba are touring Europe with Hierophant but unfortunately it's not coming anywhere near me.
Coincidentally, I saw Terror on tour with Stray From the Path last year. They put on a great show, singer shouted "Circle Pit!" no less than sixteen times throughout their set though. It got a bit silly after a while. "It's our guitar player's birthday today, and all he wants is a CIRCLE PIT."
To bring things full circle, Every Time I Die headlined, and you guys should give them a shot if you haven't already.

A band that I think even fans of blackgaze stuff like Heretoir, or US artsy BM like Krallice and Agalloch might dig.

I thought I posted that in this thread when I found it a while back but I guess not!

Oh, there were circle pits. Many of them, in fact, but it wasn't enough; Scott Vogel is the Christopher Walken of circle pits.
