I got the third badge in the last game and I just don't know if Pokemon are for me anymore, so I'm probably not picking up X/Y unless a friend of mine surprise drops one at my house. He did that with the last one with the intention of battling, and he dropped off faster than I did. I don't know if it was just me, but it seemed like trying to battle your friend was unnecessarily obtuse. You had to go to a pokemon center, go into a specific room, meet with them in that room, set rules or something or other, then battle. Only to find out you did the wrong thing and all of your pokemon are 10 levels higher than theirs so it's not worth even finishing the battle, etc. I dunno, I never looked much into it, but trying to get that first battle started was a huge pain.
Battling is much more convenient this time. You can literally do it anywhere you want as it's all done in a menu on the touch screen.
Ah, so they did learn something from Dragon Quest Monsters, good. Is there random battling, or is it all friend code based?

I haven't played one since GBA (please don't flog or shun me). And I haven't followed this releases info too much. What version should I get if I want to try and get into the game again, X or Y?

They mostly only differ in what Pokemon are available, both are equally easy to get into for newcomers.

X
Because it has the best Mega Charizard. (At least that's my reasoning.)

Get the one with the cooler looking Pokemon on the cover.
X and Y add a new pokemon type, Fairy, and the X legendary is Fairy, the Y legendary is Dark and Flying.

I too as well also have not played a Pokemon game since GBA... no wait, GBC actually. Yellow was GBC, right? I went full out with the Pokemon Gameboy and everything.
I'm oddly excited to hop on my 3DS after midnight tonight to download X... I'm ready to abuse adorable little monsters again!
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.

X, cause the cute girl at work is going Y.
Totally buying both, of course.
I have to be on the bus at 12:30 AM tonight. I wonder what are the odds that I can get the physical at Walmart then get the hell out of dodge in time to get to the bus.
Still thinking of Digital instead though, although since I have Physical of all the other Pokemon games... eh...

I've been tempted to buy X/Y, but the last few times I've tried to get back into Pokemon (Leaf Green, Soul Silver) it's never been successful. I lose interest about halfway through.
It doesn't help that so, so much has changed and been added in the last decade that I'd just be utterly lost.

Still love the franchise itself though.
The game is basically a complete super remake of everything that has come before it to the point where you're almost playing a brand new RPG. I'd still recommend trying it, because whether or not you'll be lost is irrelevant to the fact that it's almost a new game for everyone now.
The last Pokemon I played was red/blue. Here's a quick guide of how I think you should choose whether you should buy X or Y:
Are your friends buying the game? If yes, buy whatever version they don't buy. If you have no friends that are buying the game ( ) or if they're not sure which version they want, you pick one based on box art and tell them to buy the other one.
I think there was talk of a "clawdick" creature on one of them. And from the look of the red one it seems to have one. But somehow that one still appeals to me more than the blue one. So I guess I'm going clawdick at some point this weekend...that came out weirder that I thought it would. Anywho, whatever letter the red one is I guess is what I'm gonna try. Hopefully it can suck me back in after all this time.
Pokemon X/Y puzzle pane just hit StreetPass Plaza. It's a 40 piecer. On the one hand I'm relieved that it's only one pane. I've only got around 500 pieces so this means I'm not falling vastly further behind. On the other, I've been catching up fast ever since the StreetPass Relay went live (I've picked up probably 300 pieces in the last three months alone), so in the end I might benefit from more panes in the not-too distant future.

Unless their Nintendo Zone is broken, which is probably the case because they don't seem to give a shit about it in my experience :P

All of my jealousy.
And also because Yveltal's species is "Destruction Pokemon" which is basically the coolest.
Dude, that's exactly WHY I live in the Midwest.
I just found out that Soul Silver and Heart Gold are still worth like 30 bucks. I'm totally selling mine as I think I'm done with Pokemon for awhile.
God dammit, "Destruction Pokemon" does sound rad... I'm going to end up having to flip a coin.
X it is. I can dig the deer design and blue is the best color obviously.
That was the only reasoning that went in to my choice. :P
I'm a very cheap person.
Currently playing: GW2 and TSW
Yeah
That's the other (real) reason why I'm getting Y. My first Pokemon was Red Version on a red Game Boy Pocket.
For sure. But for the purposes of Streetpassing, lots of land-not enough people, really does make the 3DS metagame impossible and not fun to play.
I shall be picking up Y this evening.
Hey guys, I hear a new Pokemon game is coming out tomorrow. Let's all buy it!

All that time could be spent turning Pokemon in to motherfuckers.
