[NHL]: Can Seattle Take the Vegas Front Office in the Expansion Draft?
He traded Moulson, a First and a Second for a Second and a prospect.
The way I heard it, Garth is essentially a puppet, just a guy with some hockey credibility in there so Charles Wang can run the team as he sees fit and not get shit on as if he were Jerry Jones.

Markstrom has a .898 save percentage in 43 career NHL games over 4 years. He isn't anywhere near the best goalie prospect around and if you ask people like Darren Pang he's probably lucky if he can be a career back up.
Lack has been very good this year, but do you trade a proven elite goaltender because your rookie back up has had 29 good games?
I haven't heard a single analyst that has said anything positive about the trade from the Canucks end. It was a horrible deal.

Sakic traded a second rounder for Berra?
A UFA at the end of the year with an .897 save percentage?
Was he in a coma when all the other goalie trades happened recently?

I'd agree with this except I'm glad for Luongo's personal sake he's out of Vancouver. He's been treated horribly even after being instrumental in winning a Gold medal here and bringing the team 1 game from a cup.
Too bad they couldn't have pulled it off last year and kept Schneider. But you never know, Lack could be another one great goalie for the long term.
I'm glad that Lou got out of Vancouver as well, but Gillis is a joke. He got next to nothing back for both of his goaltenders and squandered his big chance to move someone who clearly wants out. Not to mention he went from two elite level goalies to two extremely unprovens who most likely won't ever reach what they had.

no, you trade him because john tortorella is an immense idiot. he tore the scab off a barely healed wound and everyone with a lick of sense understood it was time to pull the plug. the fact that gillis did it within a couple of days of that clusterfuck and still managed a prospect and a roster player in return is remarkable.
the management is right here. in vancouver's current situation, goaltending is a negligible problem because they have a fantastic goaltending coach, great prospects, an excellent defensive core and a squad of forwards so demotivated and snakebit that they couldn't score to bag themselves the bulova watch. if it ends up the team's losing four goals to five, we'll revisit this and think twice about it, but for me it just means i'll doubly regret tortorella's inability to toe the company line for just a couple more months. i doubt that's going to happen, though.
jeff marek put it best on the puck daddy podcast - in many years' time when the canucks look back on their history, the only reason john tortorella won't be seen as the worst thing to be imported from new york is that, unlike mark messier, he at least didn't end up suing them.

I honestly don't understand your point of view at all.
It isn't remarkable that they got a third line center and a poor goaltender "prospect." Those 2 players are not a good return for Luongo. They are an awful return for Luongo. Gillis didn't have to trade anyone before the end of the season, and if it was so simple to trade Luongo why didn't it happen last year? Why did he also sell short on Schneider? Why are there reports of a new batch of pissed off GMs who had to deal with Gillis' ever changing demands for Kesler, much like the reports of the ever changing demands for Luongo.
I know what your opinion of Horvat is, but there is a reason that trade shocked everyone.
You're making excuses for Gillis and throwing Tortorella under the bus, but the only reason Tortorella is in Vancouver is because Gillis fired Vigneault to cover his own ass.
A great goaltending coach is nothing without great goaltenders, your defensive core IS good, but also aging, your forward depth isn't very good and the Sedins are well in to their decline years.
If you're totally fine going from TWO elite starting goaltenders on your roster to none, a prospect, a third line center and back up goaltender with a career sub .900 save percentage then power to you. I'd be enraged at the total and complete bungling of my roster.
i know it's convenient right now to over-rate luongo, but his numbers were almost identical to halak's this year, another nhl #1 who was passed on for - would you know it - a middling roster player and a backup goalie. meanwhile, tim thomas, whose last meaningful game was the exact same one as luongo's last really meaningful game, bagged dan ellis. another backup. that's it. there's no market for goalies.
there's massive heat on gillis right now. most of it deserves to be on torts (the bottom fell out of the season when he got himself suspended for 6 vital games; lu's agent tweeted that he'd still be a canuck if he'd been given the heritage classic start, even if he was likely to leave in the summer). some of it needs to be on aquilini (he didn't green light any retention of lu's salary in a trade, at least until sunday's mess, and apparently vetoed gillis's favourite coach choice for tortorella).
gillis is hyper-defensive and has no charisma whatsoever but he's a good GM. he and gillman have done a hell of a lot for the team through many good years. i just really hope the public can understand just how much of this shitshow has been beyond their control.

Halak is an UFA rental, same thing as Thomas.
Considering there have been 8 trades involving goalies in the last month, I'd say there was a pretty definite market, but again, if your return is going to be bad, why make the trade in the first place?
okay, 'no market' was the wrong phrase - but value has plummeted.
we can butt heads on this forever, but i don't see how this trade can be judged on returns, anyway. getting him to florida was a golden watch from ownership, and its timing a distinct apology for the coach's disrespect. was it a bad situation that ended up screwing over the team a bit? yes. but it's not on gillis.
that said, he let mason raymond go so maybe he should get the sack too!
The Devils get back their first round pick from Kovy punishment. Admittedly it's the last pick in the first, but we have one now. Lou Lamoriello is a wizard.

Fixed that for you.

i'm excited for dallas this year. they've got an awesome, young team and lehtonen's a great character. i hope they do well in the playoffs. their record against the pacific is insane - they've lost two in regulation out of, what, 20?
I keep seeing that Rich Peverly had been diagnosed with AFIB back in the preseason and that last night it was AFIB related rapid ventricular response that caused him to pass out. Which makes me wonder how on earth they let him play professional hockey. You see college athletes get diagnosed with AFIB somewhat regularly and the get shutdown immediately and told their playing career is effectively over.
i am amazed at how quickly the canucks' have fallen from a massively entertaining hockey club, through a short period of painful uncertainty, and out the other end to become a massively entertaining hockey club again
there is so much going on behind the scenes there and it's all coming out in rumours, speculation, opaque pressers and on-ice dramatics. as for torts' job...
The Vancouver Canucks will have to wait a little while longer on the return of centre Ryan Kesler. The team's official Twitter account quoted coach John Tortorella on Friday saying that Kesler "has a sprained knee and is out 'at least a couple of weeks'".

I read it was heart related....didn't he have irregular heart beat in training camp or something.?
Yeah, and this is described as a "cardiac event." Presumably they're related, but no confirmation that I've seen yet.
I saw it at 3-0 at the start of the 3rd then went to the gym.
Also, lol at Torts.

the suspense is terrible. i hope it lasts.
Nothing but class. Whole lotta dustiness in my office now.

ALSO does any one have a clip of that crybaby taunt at the Canucks game earlier this year? Asking for a friend thanks.
For what? His completely clean hit that unfortunately injured Toews?
Don't be a Milbury.
Exactly, what's the league coming to now where any clean but big hot needs to have a suspension. Really fuckin stupid.
Go me!
