The Dallas Boston trade makes sense when you take their systems into account. Seguin was never going to get to be the freewheeling goal scoring motherfucker he wanted to be(and could play) in Julienne's defense first system and Eriksson plays a really good 2 way game that will fit well in the system.
Dallas also had a need for centers after the last year+, so Seguin and Peverly fits Dallas' needs.
I like the Clowe to fill a role, I think the dollar amount is a little high for a dude with concussion history, after Clarky got 7 years at 5.5 mil in Toronto. Hopefully we can pick up Ryder like the rumors are saying to fill out our top 6 and maybe if I sacrifice enough chickens we can get Grabovski too.
@Larlar can come back from the edge now, Ryan to OTT. Silfverberg was part of the deal, which might come back to bite them in the ass, though.
I hate giving up talented prospects for established players, because it never seems to work out in our favor. Here's hoping this one will buck the trend for fucking once and he'll not only play well but actually stay with the team when his contract expires in two years.
We also got Clarke MacArthur from Toronto, which is a little surreal. I can't remember the last time a player transferred directly between Ottawa and Toronto. He's probably gonna get booed hard at the Air Canada Centre, because all the booing Leafs fans can no longer direct at Alfie has to go somewhere.
Not to push you back towards that edge but Bobby Ryan has never outright said, but strongly hinted that he wants to go to the Flyers when his contract runs out. Hometown team and all that.

Clarkson was only ever in edmonton to drive up his price. There's no chance a Toronto boy who's only ever played in the east was moving out west.
I'm super happy about it too. Wildly overpriced in terms of both dollars and term. Is he a useful player? Absolutely, but not for that money. not even close.
8 points in his last 34 games last year. that's a lot closer to the player he's been through his career then the 16 in 14 to start the season. i think it's also pretty obvious that the 30 goal year was an aberration.

ryan has scored 30 goals 4 times already in his career while remaining injury free and he's in his prime. giving up good prospects, especially the 2 very good prospects ottawa gave up hurts, but ryan is a damn good hockey player.
Mike Colligan's article today is basically all of the speculation for what might happen.
I know enough about hockey to know that I don't really know shit all about hockey so I'm content to wait and see what happens. With their cap situation, it's pretty much guaranteed something will happen.
The last bit about swapping MAF (I'm assuming + something) for Halak could be interesting.
I really just don't like the Letang signing, I think. Unless he really steps up mentally, that's gonna hurt in a few years.
Trading Niskanen or Orpik makes sense. Niskanen hasn't grown into his potential, and Orpik always has a knack for taking shitty penalties at the wrong time.
I really hope Beau Bennett makes a solid jump this year.
As someone whose number one team would have to play MAF, I feel a little bad for saying it but if he could have a year where his regular season matches his post that'd be fantastic, five or six times a year and whose number two team kicks ass when Halak and Elliot are healthy, I want nothing to do with that MAF trade.
The Blues are already hitting a salary cap crunch with having to sign Pietrangelo, Stewart, and Allen so I don't see where MAF and his increased cap hit would fit.
But Shero has proven multiple times that he obviously has some sort of hidden porn stash involving NHL GMs in unflattering situations, so I tend to think he can pull off any trade at any time.

SKA will announce Kovalchuk's signing tomorrow, per @plysenkov, wanted to do it today.
Larry Brooks @NYP_Brooksie 1 min
Source tells Post that NHL will not attempt to prevent Kovalchuk from playing in KHL. NHL return would have to be approved by every team.
Kovy's going to play for the SKA St. Petersburg next season.
Good to see that he used his retirement time to reflect and really think about what's important.
Why couldn't he have done this two weeks ago before free agency? Or last year, before Parise went to the Wild? This is me probably being a little bitter, but I hope the IIHF bans him from Sochi.
preventing a team from participating in the free agent frenzy is doing them a favour more than anything
why would he be banned? besides, the devils understood that he'd be returning to russia. it was the league that accelerated that when it locked the players out.
We could have taken a shot at anyone who could have even come close to replacing his scoring on a team that was desperate for scoring if we knew his cap hit was off the books.
The Devils never assumed he'd go back to Russia, at least not at this point in the contract. If Lou was one to be stubborn they'd toll his contract for next year, take the 6+ million cap hit and then Kovy wouldn't be allowed to play in any IIHF tournament or event until he came back or the Devils released him. Lou needs the cap hit more than to make a point so he let it go.

Kovalchuk said during the lockout that he didn't want to leave russia and lou said that kovalchuk told him personally that he really didn't want to play in north america anymore before the season started. i don't believe for a minute that lou wasn't aware of this going in to free agency, but come on, there was no one even close to kovalchuk this year. horton on his best day couldn't hold a candle to him and horton was the cream of the crop this year.
the devils are a mess financially, possibly in the worst shape of the entire league. i'm sure the owners are doing a little dance about getting that 11m off the payroll this year. now that the nhl has ensured it will bankrupt the city of glendale, there's been a lot of chatter about the devils being the most likely to move.
i'm more concerned with the fact you just paid 5m for a guy who scored 3 goals last year. clowe has hit the proverbial wall while falling off the proverbial cliff at the same time.
but after last season I'm more bummed to be losing Clarkson
clarkson isn't half the hockey player kovy was. kovalchuk played 3 minutes more per game then the next highest forward in the nhl in 2011-2012. he literally did everything for the devils.
clarkson might be a buyout candidate 2 years in to his 7 year deal.
They wouldn't move the Devils simply because our owner got hosed by being over invested in Lehman Brothers. The team made money before Vanderbeek took over and they financed the building of the Prudential Center, so it's not a situation like Phoenix has right now. At worst they make him sell it to another group willing to buy the team on the condition they keep it where it is.

The devils have had attendance at the bottom of the league forever.
They were one of the best teams in the league for over a decade straight and still didn't sell out playoff games.
I'm not advocating that they move, but even with new ownership no one goes to the games. It wouldn't shock me if the rumors of them moving out of NJ only intensified.
On a more awful note, Jesus Christ the media in this country can be disgusting. Yesterday I have to listen to the local MSM idiots tell me how hemsky is such an awful person because he doesn't like talking to these morons and today we get to hear nothing but Russian xenophobia and anti European nonsense. Like their brains just forget about the WHA.
This is what you get when you win your titles by actively trying to NOT do anything exciting. On the plus side, they were so good at it that the league finally HAD to step in and eliminate the two-line pass rule.
I just heard a fun story
My wife is coaching some of the little little kids at the Kings' facility, introducing them to some basic team concepts and things like that.
One of the parents, who we'll call Scott 'cause that's his name, is watching his kid practice. He notices another person standing there and realizes it's Justin Williams.
Now, Scott's brother apparently lives in San Jose and is a Sharks fan. Justin Williams, you may recall, scored a big game-winning goal against the Sharks.
So Scott explains briefly and asks to get a picture with Justin. Justin obliges, and Scott sends the pic to his brother.
The phone immediately rings with an outraged brother at the other end. "Is that Justin Williams, that *&$%#," etc. follows.
Justin asks Scott, "Is that him?" Scott nods, so Justin grabs the phone and says, "I just want to thank you for being a fan," and hands the phone back
"Was that him?"
"Yeah."
"Fuck you!" Click.

yeah the stars are a bit of a reach. I don't mind the idea of the ghosted colour, but if they were sublimated in a dark navy or like a charcoal grey I would like them better.
edit: also I am not a fan of the fake lace pattern at all but that's the only thing I'm totally against
As I recall, you're not allowed to use the National team jerseys for the Olympics anymore. They had a big re-design done in Canada for the last one for that reason, I think.
