It makes me feel like I've missed one of the out-of-dungeon items, maybe something that can hold down a button for me?
You think you need something to hold down a button?
Is this in the Forest dungeon, by any chance?
Also, hold down a button? Not that I know of. However a bomb can trigger most buttons/switches, and they have a short delay.
That's making me think of the Thieves' Hideout actually...
Could be a couple of places, yeah.
Yeah, this is the problem I was having in the Thieves' dungeon. I assumed there was a Cane of Somaria-type item, and figured "oh, maybe that's the item I need to explore the place!" I figured I might pick it up in one of the other dungeons.

Yeah if you need to hold down a switch you might want to see if the ol' push/pull opens up any options.
On ALBW and Buttons, my favorite was (Final dungeon for sure, probably Forest Dungeon as well):
Getting a Wallmaster to smack a button for you.
Which I'm like 95% sure is the button in question. Such an unintuitive (yet awesomely dick move) solution.
I dunno. When I first encountered it, I knew right away. I'll have to replay the dungeon at some point and see if there was some more that could have been done to guide players toward the solution.
Having the Cane of Somaria in the Ice Palace is the only thing I can remember where there's an advantage for going out of order in ALTTP. Though I know for many, playing out of order isn't really about getting an advantage. They do it because they can.
I don't know about the cane, but doing the Thieves early gets you the lvl2 gloves, and access to the blacksmith sword upgrade. I usually do that as my second dungeon.

It was a good puzzle and it was nice to be able to figure it out myself.

I figured it out fairly quickly, then thought that there was no way that would work and then it did and it made me happy.

This was basically how I experienced it as well.
Except by the time I figured it out, I had already killed the thing. So I actually had to wait for it to respawn.

Oh my god this Dark Dungeon is absolutely fantastic!!
It is easily my favorite in this game. So many mind screws.
I had the opposite experience. I was annoyed by the inconvenience of having to redo some of that stuff over and over to get around. The one thing that frustrated me and took a while to figure out, had a really dumb solution that was basically impossible to figure out by investigation and experimentation, because the results (the ones that you want to see to actually solve the puzzle) of your actions were happening slightly off-screen. Which is just dumb.

I figured it out when I saw an enemy get killed the same way. I literally said "huh" out loud and moved into position.

Well, yes, that one specific puzzle was a giant pain in the Groose. But other than that I loved it.
Wind Waker floormasters are hilarious though. Getting into skull/pot throwing fights, sticking them with your sword, smashing their hands with the skull hammer.
Watching one kidnap Makar or Meddli is pretty freaky though.
I never figured out that you can go into the wall to avoid the attacks. I would tornado rod over the horizontal attacks and move toward the wrist part at the last second for the overhead attacks. It also took me 3 tries.
Profile -> Signature Settings -> Hide signatures always. Then you don't have to read this worthless text anymore.

Especially given that merging with a wall will make any Wallmaster automatically go into its pound animation, regardless of where it is in relation to Link
After spending way too much time figuring out how to get into Zora's Domain for the flippers, wall merging became the first thing I do when it gets hard. Thanks lame zora that can't swim.
I finished A Link Between Worlds last night and there's something I really liked about Hilda, Ravio and Yuga.
Without Lorule's Triforce, they lacked the qualities of their Hyrule counterparts. Hilda acted foolishly, Ravio was a coward and Yuga lacked true power of his own, having to use Ganon's. For that matter, all three of them needed their counterparts in order to bring out their true nature. Zelda's wisdom convinced Hilda to do the right thing and not forsake Hyrule in favor of Lorule and even Ravio said that some of Link's courage must have rubbed off on him.
I also liked that Zelda didn't need to tell Link what to wish for on the Triforce. They're both so virtuous that of course they'd wish for Lorule's salvation above anything. I wouldn't have been so virtuous. Zelda would have said to me "you know what to wish for" but somehow I don't imagine she was thinking of endless wealth and loose women.
Now I want Nintendo to make a spin-off: The Legend of Hilda.

I'm not sure if the Lorulian Triforce hd those virues. Something about the way Hilda phrased things made me think their Triforce had a different set of virtues.

I'm not sure it was even virtues at all
I don't think it was explicitly said either way. My interpretation was that Lorule was a backwards, dark place only because they had destroyed their Triforce. Stands to reason things there would have been just like Hyrule had they simply made the same choice as their Hyrule counterparts.
Anyway, that's how I look at things and I'm sticking to it until Nintendo says otherwise.

I've seen the notion before, but not in such a way as presented here. I like yours more.
I guess I was being too vague. Having a stronger sword or better armor is clearly an advantage, but it's an incremental upgrade. It's a slightly better version on something you already have. Having that cane in that dungeon allows you to bypass a puzzle in a way that's not possible going in order. In the original LOZ, it's possible to get the Magical Key early, and you don't have to worry about finding or earning keys for the rest of the game.
Now there's an item that needs to come back...
