I bet BNW is super tempting to those who love Civ 5.
Luckily for me, I played a couple of hours of Civ 5 a few months ago while my roommate was out of town, spent hours trying to figure stuff out before realizing I was still in the tutorial and couldn't seem to win, and then turned it off and went to sleep.

Giftbomb out of the blue! @Antoshka just dropped Chocolatier on me. It's a game about chocolate. Nothing else about it matters. It could just be a game where you watch chocolate flow like a river and listen to calming music and I would be happy. Chocolate is the thing that makes life worth living. This game gets installed tomorrow.
Thanks!
And now you're on The List.

A good lesson: If you can't figure something out within moments of picking it up, quit immediately and never try again.
So far the only thing I've bought is Hotline Miami...
Is anyone else feeling a bit underwhelmed by this sale? No Publisher bundles, hardly anything 80%+ off...I mean, it's a good sale and I'm planning on sacrificing many dollars to the Newell, but it's not like it used to be...
I think the Steam Sale got too commercial, man.
Well... It started yesterday... I don't know, maybe you'll find it better in the upcoming days?
Bought me some Defiance. I swear there was something else that was being talked about that was maybe necessary, but I can't remember what it was.
I wonder if the Civ expansion is going to go on mega sale. I also wonder if it's enough to revitalize Civ for me, because I have played a BUNCH of Civ.

But I'm disappointed NOW. Future me is like a completely different person, and just between the two of us - fuck that guy.
In other news, for some reason Boner Toots is showing up in my 'Top Sellers' and 'Recommended' game feed. I still haven't figured out WTF is up with that game, if it's serious, a parody, or what.

33% isn't a mega sale? On a piece of dlc that came out a handful of days ago...

To be honest I have kind of the same reaction to overly complex games.
Like I'm fine with learning games (I play League and DOTA etc. etc.) but with games like CKII where it feels like I have to do a few hours learning to even start to comprehend entirely what's going on it really doesn't feel like a worth while thing.

It is an impressive sale by all accounts. It is not a MEGA sale, however. I am reserving that word so that it retains some meaning. Useable only in certain other applications, such as MegaMan and MegaShark.

I actually make my husband learn to play it then he teaches me re: Endless Space. Really, that tutorial made my eyes glaze over every time,
Watching someone else play the game for about ½-1 hour usually does the trick for me as well, almost missed out on giving Crusader Kings II another shot until I saw a Let's play on Youtube.
Sale related: Remember to vote Portal 2, I only have it for 360 and my TV is broken.

Maybe someday, Civ 5.
I LOOOOVE Civ 5. I have NEVER seen a DLC released within a week of a sale get a discount. This is even a better discount (I think) than the preorder.

I'm kind of feeling the same way. I'm not sure if that's because so far this is kind of underwhelming compared to some previous sales, or if it's just because it's not quite as new and exciting for me any more.
The summer camp sale of two years ago was amazing. Kind of a shame they didn't stick with that format, even though I'm sure it was a ton of work for them.
Thanks to @Arithon32 I woke up this morning to find FTL waiting for me. Retaliation for your classiness shall be swift.
Once you try it out, please tell me your impressions of the game. Game looks awesome and every time it is on sale I don't buy it for some reason. I might actually buy it this time.
Went to bed caught up in here, then awoke to find 280+ new posts. And I know we'll be done with this incarnation of the thread before 2 PM today.
ANYWAY!
Someone in here mentioned this deal yesterday, and I took advantage of it, so I figured I'd pass it on again as a reminder.
You can currently buy Scribblenauts Unlimited from Amazon for $4.99. BUT! You can apply the 15% discount code "Gooncave" AND you get three free games with the purchase: Ticket to Ride (Steam), The Maw (Steam), and Drip Drip (DRM free). Seemed like a good deal to me, and better than buying Scribblenauts directly through Steam!
Having said that (because it is a good deal), the CAG thread suggests that GOONCAVE is a one-use per account code. Either buy the one thing you really, really want. Or, and this is just an idea...buy all the things.
On the one hand side, so far I am sale sceptical - of course I'm still at work.
On the other hand, no-one will buy my flippin' cards so I can get cards to make badges to get cards to..um..yeah. Anyone need a couple of Sunset Invasion's?
On the other-other hand, I am off for 2 weeks.
On the gripping hand, I will have no internet for about 10 days. Good timing, sale...good timing.

I think once you've done enough sales, you basically acquire the cheap games and the luster of SO MANY cheap games wear off since you aren't looking for so many for yourself. The true key to sale enjoyment after that point, is to buy them all again and shower them upon people that don't have them!
Here's my sale strategy. So many people blow their load within the first week, and even within the first half of the first week. But, this is a two week sale. So I collect items in my inventory and when the gifting inevitably slows down in the second week, start showing gifts.
maybe because I have played civ games since civ . (II, III, IV, and V) but I have close to 900 hours in that game. I think that tops my games on steam on hours played. I just don't have all the DLC yet. so hoping for flash sale.
Anyone have the pleasure of playing Defiance on a laptop that meets minimum specs but not recommended? The wife and I want the game but fear it being nearly unplayable.
I might buy Don't Starve, I do want to try this game out. Although I might wait a few days to see it drop more than 40%.
It probably won't. It's one of the daily sales, and it's rare that those ever get any lower during a Steam sale. At best it would probably get repeated in a few days, either as a flash sale or a community choice sale.

Gonna wait 'til it drops to 75%.
what do you want to know about it? I seem to have put in some 220 hours.
It's a (loose) roguelike. You start with a ship and a few crew members. Each ship has a number of systems - shields, weapons, sensors, etc. Each room on a ship is either 'empty' or a 'system' room. If you put a crew member in a system room, they will work that system. Maybe increase your dodge chance, or charge the weapons faster.
There are two types of encounters, combat and events.
An event can lead to combat, naturally.
Generally each event will have a number of choices with an invisible percentage chance of success or failure. If you meet certain requirements, a blue option (or options) will appear: these always succeed and usually better in some way.
Combat is real-time. Each weapon takes N seconds to charge and when it's ready you're able to fire it. Dodging happens automatically, based on a percentage. Some weapons work well together - blow through their shields and hit them with a beam weapon, for example.
@houn just bombed me with Penny Arcade Adventures 4! You dastardly knave!

There's nothing more exciting than waking up to a little green envelope in your Steam GUI. Thank you very much @Xenogear_0001 for System Shock 2! I never played this marvel and am really pumped to pee my pants with fear!

Wow I'm jealous. The first time I played SS2 was incredible.

Tutorials rarely help, in my experience. Especially in a 4X game where it's just "click the ok box to continue" ad nauseam.
Just jump into an actual game and spend some time playing.

I believe you're thinking of people recommending you get a leg up and enter in a ton of Arkfall codes
Codes can be found here: http://orcz.com/Defiance:_Arkfall_Codes
Once your Trion account is created, you should be able to enter 120 codes here: http://www.defiance.com/en/my-ego/
There is also a steam trading card group, but the spam in there is as bad as any MMO world trade channel. Luck be with you!

When you realize what a great game it is you'll want to give them MORE money.

I still don't know why everyone says this game is so good. Then again, I have no idea what it's about other than the title.
