madden has a lot of gameplay changes in each iteration. saying madden 2004 is the same as madden 2014 just shows you haven't played both games.
dota 2 is just dota because that's what people demanded it be. they didn't allow p4g

I don't know, man. I think the Madden analogy is probably better. But I'd still say it's MORE of a big change from the previous version than one version of Madden is to the next. You've got all new assets and art, and entirely new engine, new interface, e-sports/broadcasting hooks, a whole in-world economy, new characters, constant updates.
To me, that feels like a pretty huge amount of change. It's not like they just uprezzed some textures, increased the resolution, and added a screenshot feature.

it's the same game. it's no different then something like the FFX HD vita remake which has an all new ui and such to work on a handheld. or when they put that rhapsody game on the ds the completely changed the combat system from a tactical grid to a standard rpg system. it's still the same game
Uhhh this really isn't that bad... They would've cleared the stealth section in a fraction of the time if they only once bothered to explore instead of treading the exact same path 50 times.
Pro tip for platforming: When the platform you're jumping to disappears after a time, it's typically a bad idea to burn through all your jetpack fuel if you don't need to.
They're making this look way, WAY worse than it is.

How many yards for a first down in Madden '14? I always get it confused with Madden '11. And it was '09 that changed field goals to 5 points, right? Man, I'm glad they went back on that.
I'm no Dota expert or anything, but the fact that there are several hundred changes from Dota to Dota 2 listed here tells me that it's not the exact same game: http://dota2.gamepedia.com/Changes_from_DotA

if you want to be reductive as hell how do you win in dota? kill the nexus right? oh and you win in dota 2 by killing the nexus too? and there are how many champions on a team? 5 in both games? get that shit out of here. you are listing 'item and hero name changes due to copyright' in your HUNDREDS OF CHANGES!

I can't wait for Gerstmann's Destiny Minute aka What the Hell is Wrong with You People.
Hahahaha. Destiny is so full of bullshit. This platforming is just so so so dumb.
Like Jeff, I wonder how this thing got shoved out the door in this state. Even Activision should have been wondering if this was the way to launch a suposedly huge new IP.
(Please do not gift. My game bank is already full.)
This just seems representative of everything they've said about Destiny so far. Fun shooting mechanics surrounded by boring/bullshit.

Dude, my point is that it can still be an entirely new game, even if you don't change the core rules of the game. No one just hits a "export 2.0 version" on an old game (whether that's Dota or Madden) and out pops a fake-sequel, fully formed.

Yeah, Brad's crew (giggle) is made up of, IIRC, Jeff, Tina Amini of Kotaku, Giancarlo Varanini of Gamespot, Jared Rea of Jared Rea, and someone else I forget. Giancarlo has done it before so he's gonna try to be quiet, and everyone else besides Jeff has talked about really liking the game, so it might actually work out.
Also, I think Destiny might be Brad's Mass Effect 3 this year in terms of GOTY. A game that a lot of other people seem to be generally lukewarm about that he sorta loves, though I think he enjoyed Mass Effect 3 way more than this game for different reasons. It might be tough to find 10 games better than Destiny this year.
I think if brad tries to muscle that into the top 10 it'll be minerva's den all over again.
Brad becoming the podcast host was a long con for GOTY discussions

Shutup. It's just a bizarre coincidence that the only guests with Brad on the GOTY discussion podcast are his Dota 2 Rektreational team. The other Giant Bomb guys were... busy.

Yeah the bad part about the stealth and then platforming sequence is you're coming off a huge high from a couple of really hectic fights, you've just run through a maze of tunnels to get some nice loots from chests, then you're hit with two boring, needlessly difficult sections that offer zero reward for completion.
It's just a really strange flow to the progression of the raid as a whole.

Same here all my friends had fun at the gorgons and platforming parts. The gorgon part ended up taking longer than I think is reasonable but that was mostly because it ended up being a dumb contest with my friends seeing who could Snake harder.
They've run by the exit a couple times now without noticing it.
Also, Jared's clan tag is amazing.
Just saw it. It's actually not necessarily what you think. He runs a clan called Social Justice Wizards, or something, and it's meant to be a safe place for people to clan up for stuff like this.

I'm not sure how anyone would figure these strategies out, but I guess mmo raids are way beyond my understanding to begin with.
Like, had Giancarlo not told them what to do, how would they have known that they do more damage to the guy after coming out of the portal, or that the relic's bubble blocks his shots?
That's why the first people to do this raid took like what, ten hours and several thousand deaths? They were trying to figure out how to do the raid the way the designers wanted, with all the tricks and stuff

experimentation, loads of people including those in this thread have figured this stuff out (if not that very specific strategy). When you kill all the oracles it makes it pretty obvious something is going on, with both a notification and countdown timer, at that point all it takes is shooting atheon once to see the number is way higher. Same thing with the bubble, it looks like a big shield so all you have to do is think to try it once

Although I don't think we ever used the bubble against Atheon in our raid attempts
I just don't see how that's fun, on either side. Either having a frustrating experience trying to figure it out, or following a predetermined strategy step by step with no room for deviation. Nevermind the many hours of grinding in order to reach the privilege of being able to do this.
This kind of design just might not be for me though.

GOTY material, folks. What's after this, an escort mission in a sewer level?
