a-groove and roll cancelling really did ruin a fun game. Well, them and Sagat. And Bison. And Blanka. And Sakura. But half of those characters wouldn't be so bad without a-groove and roll cancelling.
Been enjoying Blazblue: Chrono Phantasma for a while now, though I have to deal with the concept that I'm still quite the newbie; nowhere near as decent as I was back when I last played Continuum Shift. In other news, Fulgore has been out for a while in KI and he's fun though has a few problems; Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle gets a ported release later this month (Demo is out on PSN for those interested). I'm tempted to grab that simply because of how crazy it is. Patch for Blazblue comes out early next month as well, dealing with quite a major character balance overhaul. Should be interesting.
I've been putting a lot of time into Blazblue too. I FEEL like I'm getting better, but my winrate has been firmly stuck at 20%, so I'm not completely sure. It could be because I started sitting back and waiting for people to challenge me rather than searching myself, and getting stuck fighting yellow-level opponents as a result. I feel like it's kind of rude to challenge someone so far beneath yourself :-/
(For reference, yellow means above-average. My skill level is denoted as dark blue, which is two levels below average)
I swear I end up having to relearn basic fighting game concepts every time I pick up a new game. Yesterday, I relearned what a DP was, and consequently, stopped getting beaten on so badly by unyielding offense. INFERNO DIVIDER, BITCH.

So I ordered a ChronusMAX...I couldn't take not using my HitBox for KI anymore. I know I could never use it at a tournament, but I don't ever plan to play at a tournament, so that's kind of an non issue for me. I'll report back if it does or doesn't melt my XB1 USB ports.
Hopefully this is just a stop gap until a decent open source XB1 PCB hits the market, when I'll get my HitBox modded. It should do the trick for going online and jamming out some KI on the HitBox, which is the goal.
I wouldn't be so sure about not being able to use it for a tournament. As long as it the set to '0' the tournament organizer should know that you aren;t using any macros.
Seth Killian really going for that Capcom Apologist of the Year award, taking every opportunity to bash old games while propping up SF4. By the end I couldn't even tell if he was actually serious: "Glad the days of reusing assets has passed us." rofl
Also, those Marvel 1 matches were painful. I saw (and played) better games last time I went on ggpo.
My ChronusMAX gets here today. I'll let you guys know how it works out with the Hit Box and KI.
Very curious. I've got a nice Hori 360 stick I'd love to be able to use on my One. Then I'd actually be able to play KI.
So far so good. Setup was easy enough. The little thing does get pretty warm (there is a small ARM processor in there I believe), but they ship it with a small USB extension cable now, so it's not plugged directly in to your One/PS4.
I was able to get it setup in about 10 minutes, but you do need both a MINI and a MICRO usb cable. The mini USB cable is to program the Cronus using your PC, and the micro is to use your XB1 controller to 'authenticate' the Cronus max. I happen to have both laying around since I have a PS4 and a PS3, which use the two cable types to charge. Once it was setup, it worked great. I was able to jump right in to KI and play with my Hit Box, no issues. I can't really say much about input lag as I am not good enough at fighting games to even perceive it, unless it's horrible. In this case, it felt crisp to me.
I hopped online real quick and stomped some guy as Fulgore, and as expected, the Hit Box raised my execution considerably. I didn't drop a single combo, so I was pretty happy overall.

Honestly, at this point I just don't have much hope for SC's future.
SC's been dead to me since they took out Yungsung and instead included two versions of the same character, and three "edgemaster" type characters, including Edgemaster himself. They basically wasted a perfectly good cast by putting in a ton of duplicates for no reason and removing old-time favorites like Yungsung, Seong-Mina, and Zasalamel; among others.
Oh? Putting Kilik in a Male-only edgemaster type of deal... why? A boss character who looks like Sophitia who is the opposite of Kilik (again, why?). That's two edge-master types that are totally unnecessary in the game because there already is a pure EDGEMASTER in the freaking game; and it's Edgemaster himself. Replacing Kilik's position of bo-staff user with a new guy, completely doing away with Seong-Mina because Namco thinks 40 year olds or older are gross (their exact reason why Taki, Seong-Mina, Setsuka, Cassandra, and Sophitia are out of the game).
Adding to this they took out Yung-seong completely, and no one even so much as uses his style in the game; they took out Zasalamel, which makes little sense because he's freaking immortal. They decided to make two versions of the main characters instead of filling those roles with OTHER possible characters. Face it, Namco got extremely freaking lazy. And what do we get instead? Character creations with a bunch of random silliness and plenty of ways to make female characters have as little clothing as possible (half the dlc even supports this).
It starts with an earthquake and ends with Namco demanding a release of a game 6 months before it's been finished. It's not Project Soul's fault that SC5 is the way it is.
As I've said before, Daishi got the short stick there. Fans blame him for ruining the series because character X wasn't in the game or whatever. The fact is, the game was hurt by the earthquake and then rushed out anyway. So Daishi decided to focus on balance instead of fluff or extra characters. That's the decision he made, and that's likely what got him canned (or the reason he quit). And now Namco has all they excuses they need to make Soulcalibur even fluffier and more casual than it's ever been before. After all, it's what the fans demanded. So have fun with the f2p grind and the ipad pachinko game. You'll probably even get Yun back in them.

thanks for assuming I wanted any of that in your last 2 sentences, bud.
Your reaction was the same as most fans, and it is what is causing the Soulcalibur games we're getting. It doesn't matter whether you wanted it or not.
does anyone have any good resources for learning Yun or Yang? I've wanted to learn Yun since super came out, but could never really find great resources on his combo's.
I'd also like to learn him for 3rd Strike as well.
moon tagged me because i'm a yang main and dabble in yun and love the twins in general
i'm not sure of your level of familiarity with fighters, so feel free to ask me to expand on anything i say here, i would be happy to
in terms of resources, the Shoryuken forums are generally a wealth of knowledge for whatever character you want to learn, with threads for mixups, combos, matchups, genei jin, videos, and question and answers.
Yun is honestly pretty straight forward, with only a few combos making up the core of his game plan
your bnb starting off of a low is: cr. lk st. lp st. lp st. mp xx upkicks, and it's what I use most when I play him.
His main punish is cr. mp st. mp xx upkicks, max damage is cr. mp x3 st. mp xx upkicks
he also has a special cancelable target combo in st. lp st. lk st.mp, which you can use for an easy confirm, but it is also the only way to make a string into light shoulder a true blockstring
yun's game is strong rushdown, with his godlike divekick, fast normals, easy confirms, and relatively simple oki. you get the knockdown, then you either: go for a crossup/not crossup divekick, throw, command grab, low, tag them with your overhead (which you can combo after on counterhit), or just block.
you don't really need to worry about genei jin quite yet, i'd use meter for ex upkicks with a lunge punch juggle and ex shoulder to punish fireballs.
i dabble in yun so i can't really give you the complete lowdown on the character, but the forums i linked have a toooon of information, though it could be difficult to sift through.
now you didn't express too much interest in yang but i can write a post for him too if you like, i consider myself something of a specialist with that character because i'm a narcissist.

Some CvS2, some ST, some 3S, and then Justin Wong and Alex Valle just went "fuck it" at the end and did Marvel vs Capcom 1 for the final set.
It was dumb/great.

So, the super secret new Soulcalibur game that Harada let slip about a while back? Just as I expected, it's a godamn mobile game.
Why, Namco? Why you gotta do this? Tell me please!
At least they're probably making bank off of this nonsense.
Good job guys! You're killing it.
