How does one do moves that require full circle inputs, like Zangief, without just jumping around like a dummy? I haven't received my stick yet, so I'm still using my Dualshock4 which might be part of the problem. But even with the miniscule knowledge I have in regards to fightan gaems, I feel like jumping and doing the input before hitting the ground is not the way to go.
Peewi got it right. You only need four cardinal directions, and the last one can be any of its diagonal variants. For example, I do b, d, f, uf+p.
I start from b so that I can use it to punish blocked attacks. You can also buffer it in from a meaty hop knee, which will work as a tick throw on most people at this early stage.
Skullgirls had this nice thing where you could do multiple full 360s and never leave the ground.

Yup, and this means you can start at any angle and rotate in any direction. Good techniques to learn are Back to Up-Forward for a low to the ground air grab, or Up-Forward to Back to jump immediately and do the air grab higher up.
Man, I don't know what it is but Rashid is a blast to play. I think it's just all the mobility hrs got easy access to. That and I feel like I have an answer for every situation pretty much.

Man, SFV is so good. So damn good.
But I can't but feel that this game should of come out in June, cause it's getting blown the fuck up on steam reviews. And I would agree if I had to pay $60 for this game, but thankfully I didn't.

Well i feel bad for people that paid full price for a game thats not complete and the online component is all kinds of messed up at the moment too. I think they have every right to be upset.
I paid 40 and have other games to play, so I can wait.

Well they have to play right away so they can get started on getting their Riot Points Fight Money soonest!
Is the TE2 too heavy for lap use? I'm thinking of making that my purchase.

Nah I'm using it right now. It's heavy but in a good way, and there is foam padding on the bottom unlike the TE 1's cold slidey metal.
Also SFV is a lot of fun, but they screwed up on Steam by not properly labeling it as Early Access
So I'm hopping into the game for the first time, trying to play a ranked match, and I can't get a match going. It gets stuck on "Waiting for opponent" forever. Are there supposed to still be issues like this? I'm on PS4
EDIT: It eventually worked, but my god do they need to fix these search times. No way is there a shortage of people to pair me up with.
I think I may play the story modes and do some training, then put the game aside until this gets sorted, because spending < 10% of my time in actual matches isn't very fun

Gootecks has released a fighting game training book for $0 on Amazon for anyone interested. It's free now, but he will probably increase the price in the future.

You'll ultimately need to do that anyway. Completing the story modes gives you a one-time absurd amount of Fight dollars while multiplayer matches only give you a little bit.
Well just got given a copy of this and it's pretty good, though still bare bones at the moment, feels like an early access game more than a full title. Going to try my luck with some online fights and see how it goes.
I would very much enjoy dramatic battle mode in this title further down the line as I have fond memories of the alpha series.
Also as a point to mention I thought the last KOF was great but I do not like the new graphical style at all after seeing that trailer.

Man, I can't believe how much better I'm playing since I stop worrying about landing combos and concentrated on just hitting the other person with the most appropriate normal.

I have like, one combo, and I'm doing very well with just that.
Finally got my copy in and played it for more than a few hours today. As usual, great game even if it's skimpish on content. Got up to bronze just using basics...I still need to find a good B+B combo for Bison. If anyone wants friendlies at some point hit me up, I'd also like to give R Mika a go.

Standing mp, crouching mp xx light scissors/light or medium blast/light inferno
You can do st.hk or down forward hp instead of stand mp
Or just crouch mk xx light scissors for low safe pressure
Ranked is pretty frustrating. It seems that you can get matched up against any bronze, even when you are at 0 points, and there is a huge difference between a rookie and an ultra bronze (or whatever). It's a big enough difference that even though it doesn't show rank at the start of the match, I'm a good 95% accurate at guessing the rank once I start fighting them.

use cr mp xx mk scissors!
more dmg and mk scissors is safer on block (lk scissors is -4, mk is -3!)
not sure if anyone's noticed or mentioned it; but J.wong posted a link to a google doc that he made up of basically every characters "bread n butter" combo based off of a jump in with a simple version and then an "advanced" version. If I wasn't stuck at work with a net filter I'd link it; But he tweeted the link out to everyone on his twitter so you can just go to twitter.com and search for Justin wong and it should pull the tweet with the list

I just wish it would fffffrickin work... I suppose the servers are getting better in that I wasn't logged out at all yesterday, but jesus christ the loading times... Hilariously awful Fang's* two fights against Bison story mode took like, 2 or 3 minutes to finish and then I had to wait for over a minute on a black loading screen for the character select screen to pop up. Then I was feeling good about not playing awful on normal survival with Laura, so I wanted to try a ranked match. Infinitely searching for opponent. Casual match also infinite opponent search. Argh!
I really want to like the game, and for the most part I do. But I did pay $60 for it, and I don't feel too great about it.
*Fang is not awful, he's quite rad. His "story" mode is hilariously bad, though. The whole "Story mode" is really bad, actually.
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.

I use it in my lap but I have a little foot stool I put my feet on so my lap is more level. I dont like the controller dropping down 45%s.

I'm in the same boat. I enjoy fighting games, but controllers for these things tend to be unreasonably expensive. The biggest beef I have with the Street Fighter series is the 6 button fight system. Marvel vs. Capcom and anime fighters like BlazBlue or Guilty Gear have 4 main attack buttons which makes playing with a pad much more possible.

MvC has four attacks and two assists. So still six. Also blazblue is better on a fight stick. Basically every fighting game is regardless of number of buttons.

Yeah, an arcade stick is always better, but you can definitely get away with using a pad a little more in the 4-button games. Just gotta map a few button combinations to the triggers and you aren't at much of a disadvantage.
I could imagine Persona being awkward, given that every button combination is used for something.

I mean I think half the benefit of the stick is that your wrist/arm are faster and more precise than your thumb for directional inputs.

In my experience, the most significant advantage you get with an arcade stick is the buttons. The fact that you are using different fingers for each buttons makes it significantly easier to hit them in rapid succession. In SF4 I remember this being really important for plinking, and I guess for pianoing for Honda and Chun.
The stick itself is certainly a big difference too, but I don't know if it's the point.
I simply can't execute much regularly without a stick, buttons included. Especially with the wonky PS pad that does not work well at all for fighting games.
TY for the input and the links. I've been trying to use Bisons old kick game pressure and it wasn't working, now I know they relegated that to his punches. Going to have to practice that today.

It's a discussion that's been going on forever.
Hell, I remember when the big discussion was lolipop sticks vs the big US style sticks. Opinions on that changed pretty drastically as well.
Being that pad players have gone far in the majors. The old default of "Arcade Stick or Nothing" no longer really rings true as a generation of fighting game players are raised simply without arcades to play in. I think people that gain all their experience on pads will be fine and be able to play on them with no problem. Cause, honestly, they already are.

You might have to hold it differently (smug swamps his hand around a lot mid-match) but you can use whatever you're comfortable with and still win.
I prefer the stick though! But don't feel like you're losing out if you can't afford one.
