Star Trek memorabilia appraisal/disposal

Cleaning out my closet this morning, I've discovered a box of what look like old, decent-condition Star Trek collector plates. I barely remember how they got there (a charity auction at A-kon...2009? IDEFK), and don't particularly want to keep them; I'd usually turn to eBay in order to sell them off, but in this case, 1) am not enthused about having to pay/charge out the ass for shipping nine or ten heavy, breakable plates, and 2) see way too many fucking results for "star trek collector plates" to have a clear idea of what this particular set might be worth, especially since I don't have much idea as to their origins. Should I try to play match-up with whatever series or creator my plates seem to be from, set a price, and just see what happens? Or is it worth trying to find a local pawn or hobby shop that might be able to give me a better idea and/or buy them off me? I'm not as concerned with their worth as with getting them the hell out of my closet, but do want to get a little something out of it.

If you don't want to mail them, then selling them to a local pawn shop or hobby shop is the way to go. If you don't want to get ripped off selling them, then matching them to similar series in similar conditions and seeing what they sell for is what you need to do. Then take them to stores around town with this info in hand and negotiate.
