It's certainly interesting that WHFB gets trounced by Privateer Press. GW really needs to reevaluate their business model, as we've already discussed a bit in Warhammer threads both here and in SE++.

Wow. WHFB got stomped. That is interesting.

Can't say PP doesn't deserve the acclaim, though. I love WarMachine.

WFB seems to be mostly entrenched players and IP-related stuff. Pretty classic hobby game issue; if you provide something that longtime players like, your sales will generally go to shit. Vets don't buy anything.

And the entry point is absurdly high.

White Wolf managed to turn around, though. WFRP had taken the number two spot for 2005.

There aren't any actual numbers, so you have to consider that they could just all be really close.

Well, at least WFB is still in the top five. Number four is better than say, eighth.

Something about YuGiOh cards outselling Magic makes me very sad.

I guess kids just have shitty taste.

It's nice to see that White Wolf's World of Darkness took the #2 spot. I've always dug their games and am glad to see them doing well.

They've been there for years, 'cept for last year (or... 04) for the reset and release of the new books. And coinciding with WFRP.

I've always loathed their stuff (I've had sex with a girl), but respect the quality of the ideas, at least with Mage and some of the weirder settings. Vampires are pretty goddamn lame though. Also, before anyone takes me too seriously, I'm posting for the benefit of a few people who may or may not see this.

    Fuck vampires. And vampire people.

Its not a particular scientific survey though, and the nature of the people they ask means that the GW games are going to be heavily underepresented (since GW doesn't use an intermediate distributer like I've been told PP and Rackam do, and the survey didn't include online retailers - so that is just GW sales from independant store owners).

I'm suprised to see stuff like Settlers of Catan and Carcassone but no Monopoly or Cluedo in the family or board game section, though that might be a similar case as Gamesworkshop with Hasbro selling directly to most shops and the majority of sales of these sort of games going through bigger superstores like Walmart or Toys'R'Us. Then again isn't WotC Hasbro as well, or do they work as a completely seperate business?

But, seriously, how is Puerto Rico not on the top five list for board games?

It's the Weeaboo factor. Every otaku on the planet buys BESM to run with their wallhangings and dolls playing the characters.
