I came back to this game. Bought a quickdraw. Remembered how terrible I am at this game
Which one didja get?
I like to Laserboat. So the one with 6 energy slots. It came with DHS as well. Not sure if I like it coming with FF as well, but that's relatively cheap to fix.
Currently have 6 Mlas and a srm6 in it. I like Hunchbacks and it was mentioned this is pretty much a bigger hunchback.
First match was in the city, I fell off a platform into 4 of them. Survived for a pretty decent amount of time though. My weapon groups keep not working and I alpha everything. I'll have to fix that.
I know most of you aren't really interested in the tournaments these days, however I made a tournament tracking spreadsheet for kicks for myself and figured I'd share it.
All the cells are protected in it except the ones you should be entering data into (match info and scoring formula values). If you feel the need to modify anything else, just unprotect the sheet and edit away.
I put it into Google Docs as well, but it loses all the conditional formatting and cell protection which annoyed me so I'm just using the excel file now.
I left in all the values from the matches I played last night to show what it looks like after valeus are filled in. Just delete those values and start over.
Edit: there is a download option on the file menu when viewing that link. Or hit Ctrl-S.
One day, I hope this game enables a territory control gamemode a la Battlefield with a ticket respawn system. Heavier mechs cost more tickets to respawn, so bad heavy pilots can be a serious drain on your team.
That sounds awful, because people will probably play assaults more often than not.

They really need to balance the game somehow so there are less assaults and heavies. Maybe just balance around tonnage... Want to take 4 Atlases? Fight 8 Centurions, or some other mix of mechs that's about 400 tons.
The VTR-9K comes with endo-steel. That was a pleasant surprise. I can't imagine keeping the 9K once I basic it out. There just aren't any loadouts that have that wow factor that the 9S (AC/20, SRM12, 2xML) or the 9B (2xUAC5, SRM10, 2xML) have.
I've got it loaded out with Gauss, SRM10, 3xMPL right now. I'll see how that goes, but I'm not enthused.
Also, 6 tons for jumpjets in an 80 ton mech isn't going to happen. I'll run it with 4, just like the other two. "Gaining" a lower arm actuator and losing a ballistics hardpoint for 2 more jumpjets that really can't be utilized isn't a good trade.

8 Centurions... with standard engines.

I'd shit kittens if they actually do something smart like raising the heat PPCs generate. Putting them back to TT values would be glorious. Of course, then we'll see tons of Gauss Cats and Gauss Cataphracts putting us roughly back where we started with this whole sordid, pinpoint affair.
Gauss rifles are the single heaviest weapon in the game (15 tons for the gun, and then ammo), and those were only an issue when there was literally no other pinpoint damage. Now that autocannons are all pretty good, LRMs are good, lasers are good, and PPCs might become okay, I don't think the Gauss Cat[suffix]'s will become nearly the problem you think they will.
edit: Also the only Mechs that can carry a double-gauss setup safely are Jagermechs and the Ilya. The 3D and K2 both have to put it next to their XL (or take such a ridiculously small STD that they're not a concern), which is begging for death, especially with the giant side torso of the 3D.

Yeah, double-gauss just isn't the problem it was in closed beta. With a much better diversity of effective weapons, much better mech diversity, low-HP gauss, the explosive nature of gauss rifles, and the extreme sacrifices necessary for toting double gauss, they aren't necessarily balanced, but they're at least something that can be reasonably dealt with. Fast mechs are the bane of dual-gauss mechs, and there are a ton of other mechs carrying effective long-range weaponry now. A dual-gauss mech now would be asking to get pounded in all sorts of ways, from LRMs smashing it to nothing down to a light with SLASes slicing open a side torso and destroying the XL.
And if those PPC heat values go back up, yeah, serious game-changer. I only tried that 2 ERPPC + gauss Cataphract after the heat values were dropped down, and even then, it can still run hot in extended combat. If those values went back up, they would be all but worthless in brawls; a single ERPPC would probably be the reasonable maximum for most mechs that fire it more than occasionally, and 2 PPCs after that. Plus, LLs and autocannons would become the workhorse mid-/long-range weapons, instead of everybody just maining PPCs all the time for everything.

SRM 10 and SRM12? I do not see these in the weapon screens?? Is this in the testing server or something?

Weight matching once its in will fix all tonnage related problems. (If they implement it right)

Eh, I'm probably just stuck on the original bad old days. GRs mostly likely won't be all that big of a deal these days but still, I'm a paranoid SOB.
I'd say it's far more dangerous than the AC40 Jager by a stretch. More heat than the AC40 but the range is better, faster, and the overall heat efficiency isn't actually that much worse. Wonder why I haven't seen many of these around.
I'll really be thankful once the 30th patch comes along and ER PPCs and regular PPCs are linked for the new heat scale.
Now that Paul "the single balance guy" is back from his 3 month vacation the game is doing better.
It's definitely not perfect but aside from the game being Assault Online I'm not raging from alphas anymore.
It's just that PGI moves at such a glacial pace. It really strangles enthusiasm in the crib.
I'm really itching to play something other than my DDC with 2 ppc 1 gauss and 3 streaks but until they fix srm hit detection, which could take a while for reasons they've already mentioned, it's not going anywhere.

Been looking around at some "winning" builds (meaning the builds my pug teammates are using in the games we win) and I'm seeing a lot of Gauss/2xERPPC/PPC setups.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Yup, I said this was gonna happen the minute they announced these heat scaling changes. I don't know how PGI couldn't have seen this shit coming.
What kind of accuracy numbers are you people seeing with PPCs, Gauss, AC/Xs, etc?
Obviously, my accuracy% goes up as the effective range decreases, but I run 59% with the long-ranged projectile weapons (AC/2, AC/5, PPC) up to 67% with AC/20s. I've only got 17 matches with a Gauss equipped (60%), so the sample size is low (but in line with other longer-ranged projectile weapons).
LBX is in line with lasers (88%), but that's to be expected.

Curious what's normal.
I get between 60% and 70% on most projectiles as well. My UAC/5s skew into the lower 50s but that's mostly due to dakkadakkadakkadakkadakka.

Yeah, I hadn't even looked at the UAC/5. I assumed it would be the same as my AC/5 numbers. It's not. 51.84%.
Ha, I'm definitely part of the problem with the gauss and 2 ppc ddc.
I am part of the problem.
BUT I AM A PROBLEM HIPSTER.
I was part of the problem before it was even a problem. I have nearly always been using 1 gauss 2 ppc.
EDIT: Ugh, the worst is when I tried to use SRM18+A on my DDC like in the good ol' days*. I figured it was worth it with the temporary damage buff. It was so great for brawling... if the hits landed. I could taste sweet brawling goodness but it's simply locked behind shitty netcode or something PGI doesn't even know.
I want to stop continuing the problem, but it's just so difficult.
I have assaults. I like them.... they have big guns. But I just seemed to get shredded. But i see other assaults just seem to shrug off all damage. What am I doing wrong?

Avoid damage in assaults precisesly the same way you do in lights... move, use cover, attack the weak. Look at the enemy assaults that get shredded by you... what do they all have in common? They move out alone, they just stand there, they die. Don't be that guy.

And also on the getting shit done in the morning list:
Approx 2x7 and 5x6.
I can make some more up real quick and bring them to PAX / mail them to you if you ask real nice.
