Well, looks like I'll be leveling yet another class for my Bard. Had Archer and Conjurer at 20.
At least I have a healing alt?
I should note that there hasn't been any confirmation there there are 3 classes as requirements now. It's something a lot of sites have picked up but as far as I can tell it's just random speculation since I have yet to find a site claiming this that has sourced where they got this impression from.
That being said if someone DOES know where they are getting this info I would love a source

I think it's more that Bards seem to lose the ability to use Conjurer skills, and instead can use Lancer and Pugilist skills. The conclusion from that is that Bards will need at least one of Lancer or Pugilist to 15, possibly both. I guess the logic makes sense from that standpoint, but I wonder why Bards don't get to use Conjurer skills anymore. It would seem to make sense for a support class to get access to Conjurer stuff.
I will level whatever class I need to main a Spoony Bard Archer.
Hopefully it's Lancer if it changes. They have a great TP restore and +Damage buff that would work fantastically. A non-healing limit break would be great too.
I read that Bards no longer pull from Conjurer skills, and instead pull from Lancer and Pugilist skills. So do I still need to get level 15 Conjurer as a pre-req for Bard?
@Renzo Can you post where you read this? Right now that is pretty much contradictory to all the other info out there. I'm curious who is saying this, and what source they are using as the basis for their info.

I think what this means is Bard isn't really a support class anymore. They're a DPS class with some buffs.

I don't even like player housing to be honest. what kind of sever community is it when all everyone does is hang out in their guild houses
Considering not much happens 'server community'-wise in games that don't have it... I would say it's much better as there's some sense of community rather than none!
Hrm, the FFXIVInfo site claims CNJ and LNC, while FFXIVGuild claims CNJ and THM for the cross class availability. FFXIVGuild claims to be basing their assumptions off of Beta 4 and people that have legacy characters. I don't see a site that claims Lancer and Pugilist though.
I'm not super into all the theorycrafting, but I just want to know what classes I need to level to get the most out of Bard and like you said, nobody seems to have definitive info.

For being so into games and talking about buffs and nerfs, he really has a positive attitude. I guess it makes sense, given the name. But it's not very common.
wait, that video says paladins got a damage buff? are those going to be live in open access? he says riot blade will do 230 now but I'm pretty sure it was 200 in open beta. If paladins are getting those buffs then i will level my paladin over marauder, as I went marauder for faster leveling and group damage contribution.
edit: though he says maim got buiffed to 20% on warrior and that was in open beta. maybe I'm crazy...

I kinda want to shoot a lance (or sword) from a bow an have it explode from being magically overcharged. Would make a good Limit Break.
Caladbolg? Yeah that would be pretty neat. The Jobs get the same Limit Break as their base Class, right? It'd be nice if, instead of that, Scholars could get the healing limit break while Bards get a damage limit break of some sort.

It's just categories.
There is the healing 1/2/3
physical damag 1/2/3
magic damage 1/2/3
and tank 1/2/3
It is not divided by specific class or job. Just role.

Hrm this contradicts earlier information that I received, which said that MRD/GLD did the tank one, LNC/PGL did physical damage, ACN/THM did magic damage and CNJ/ARC did healing. Being subdivided by role would make a lot more sense, though.
Shouldn't we be able to look pretty quickly at the cross class skill lists in game. The two classes other than Archer whose abilities can be used by Bard would be the 2 subs, it draws from. One of them will have to be 15. The other will just let it's skills carry over.
Personally I would love to see CNJ and THM for BRD. And then LNC, and PUG for Ranger. <Yes, I am still wanting Ranger.>

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what the guy did in his screenshot. You can see the Lancer and Pug skills on his bar while he is a Bard.

If the game tells me at some point, "Hey, if you want to get access to Bard, level up this other class to 15." then cool, I'm set. But I haven't gotten far enough to see if that's even a thing that happens.

Maybe I'm crazy and they did something silly with Archer?
Nice. Didn't even know about this guy until now. :^:
Although while playing in Phase 4 I did have this feeling at one point that I was being recorded/screenshotted by someone. I believe it was during a FATE, too, so that's pretty bizarre.
I'm just glad I switched enemy targeting from TAB to Mouse 3, because I couldn't target for crap the default way. I would keep hitting CAP by mistake.
Let that be a lesson to the rest of you: you never know when you might be watched, so always try to look competent. 8-)

Archer utilizes the Healing Limit Break.
There are various theories as to why this is the case:
1) They needed a second class to use the Healing Limit and Archer becomes a Bard which is a hybrid damage/support class.
2) The single target damage limit is the summoning of a sword at close range, not exactly something an Archer would do.
3) The AoE Damage limit is the summoning of a magic staff and meteors, again not really Archer-like.
Basically to have the Archer have a damage based Limit break they would need to create a new Limit break just for the Archer, which would also make it so only one Class used the Healing Limit break. This way you have a few options in regards to that but it does mean the Archer doesn't use a Limit break that makes as much sense as it could
My guess is that if they Add Musketeer down the line they'll probably create a Ranged physical damage Limit break and give it to both Musketeer and Archer, but that's just speculation.

Heh ya, but I wouldn't worry about looking competent to a guy who has the terrible UI arrangement in that screenshot.
I did notice that monstrosity he's got going on and wondering how he could possibly play with all that clutter.
Even the default UI placement gets in the way for me, especially when fighting big-sized enemies.
I really can't wait to find that sweet spot with the UI placement and scaling. I want to try and go as minimal as possible with those settings.
For instance, I would like a way to disable the text that tells you how much exp you earn per battle. Based on the Phase 4 options, there's no way to disable that specific message without disabling the notifications I would want to keep (like items acquired, achievements earned, etc).
If they changed to Bard prereq from Conjurer 15 then I've got some catching up to do as I already did that during Beta 4. I guess I'll sit and keep leveling Archer until I find out an answer.

Not the experience I had. Actually one of biggest disappointments about WoW after coming from FFXI was how there was so little community feel.
However there is no physical aspect to this... just chatting. So a general all chat would keep this from changing but still allowing a physical place for people to gather.
My initial worries when playing the first two beta phases was that nobody was communicating with each other at all. No /shouts, no friendly /bows, nothing.
That changed completely by Phase 3, however, and I got quite FFXI nostalgic seeing all the different kinds of chatter among players. It was at that point I felt confident that ARR would succeed.
But seriously, turn off the /shout filter next chance you get. It's been nothing but idiots arguing with each other, and no longer serves any kind of purpose.
/yell seems slightly more civil from what I've seen, so maybe leave that one on.
It's kinda annoying having all these questions and not having the right information. I mean is this normal? Are the players supposed to figure it out themselves or will they tell us all the information eventually?
I'm mostly concerned about the Free Company Housing and player housing details. Like I want to know exactly what you can get/how much/etc.

Point of confusion: What's the difference between a Free Company and a Linkshell?
The youtube video below does a good break down of what a free company is and does.
free company is a guild
linkshell is a chat room.
