That guide claims that limit breaks are based off of party role, which is the sensible way of doing it. I hope that it is correct. However, I have heard numerous Archers complain that their limit break is the healing one, which is hopefully a bug.
As long as there are questions to be asked, as long as the majority of the player base are fresh players with very little experience, I think the /shout channel will remain a positive place for info and helping people.
Have we heard of any sort of grace period? I haven't. If you need your code to be entered to continue playing on the 27th, launching the account management site on the day of does not bode well, particularly after this last week...
So, I was in via beta 3 and 4, and under the impression that the beta 4 logon would be continuous to release, with pre-order and early access peopel coming online as the calendar marched towards full release.
However, when I try to log in now, I get a message to please wait until early release. Was beta 4 just temp for all of us? I was a bit fuzzy on how it was supposed to work.
By the by, got my pre-order and whatnot squared away as well. The site is congested, but it did evetually go through. I just poked the redeem code button every 15 minutes or so while working.

There was quite a bit of convincing speculation that beta phase 4 would lead right into early access but that turned out to be wishful thinking. Early access starts Saturday morning. Hang in there!
Open beta (beta 4) was just over the weekend and ended at 11 AM Eastern time on Monday. Servers are unavailable until Saturday morning at, I think, 5 AM Eastern.
Mog Station is the FFXIV account management system. Presumably, the same place we'll all be entering in our actual release codes and managing sub information, hence why I'm concerned.
Yeah, but look at the address, its' the same account management site; the mogstation is probably just something additional; or a steamlined method of entering in codes?
I dunno. We'll see. I'd probably feel the concern more if I didn't have the game via 1.0 already.
Probably some additional account management service portal. S-E certainly keeps their webmasters busy.
It is their attempt to do away with all the headache inducing processes they currently have in place. It is meant to be the one stop shop for all your account management needs for FFXIV:ARR.
Now whether it will deliver on that is to be seen

Sadly Archers had a healing LB during the beta. I used it and everyone laughed at me. I also hope they change that out.
OK, so I figured that I would go ahead and pop open the launcher to see if there were any patches I needed to download. That seems to have been a mistake, as it tries to download a patch, and then gives me an error "Unable to update patch files." The remedy I found through Google was to go to My Documents and delete some FFXIV related files there, but that did not fix the issue. Neither did running the launcher in Administrator mode, both with and without deleting the suggested files. Any suggestions? Or should I just ignore it and hope the problem goes away when early access begins?
If you don't want to be support in the end game, I recommend not being an archer. Until they add another specialization for that class, you are a support role whether you like it or not.
They should've made each class (and even better each job as well) have their own unique limit break. Maybe the melee dps classes would still all do a single target high damage attack but with a different utility. One could have a limit break that goes through armor, another could add a stun to the hit, etc.
Gives your party slightly different options based on your team composition and adds more unique flavor to each class.
I'm sure the system will become more refined as they add new specializations to the game. Right now, however, we just have to deal with the fact that Archer specializes into support.
They seriously need to put up a PSA about that, because I'm sure there are going to be a lot of shocked people who level Archer to 30 and discover that they just got specialized out of DPS and into support.
If and when they ever release another specialization for Archer, what could they use? Maybe Corsair? I'm trying to think over past FF games and there just aren't a lot of physical ranged characters. Everything is either melee or magic. What do Archers evolve into in FFTA? I never got that far to see what unlocked for them.
In the original FFT, Archers were required for Thief directly, and indirectly for Ninja, Lancer, Dancer, Mime and Samurai I believe. I'm not sure what else would really work with Archer, because Musketeer is an entirely different weapon. Ranger or Sniper or something I suppose?
I'd love to see Geomancer or Oracle make a return (as Conjurer specializations maybe), even though those were not exactly strong jobs back in FFT.
FFTA apparently had Archer into Sniper then Assassin if you were Viera, or Archer into Hunter if you were Human.

There's no reason you can't just group as an Archer if your party doesn't need your Bard buffs and wants more DPS instead though. Thanks to more access to cross-class skills, there will be times where a Class might be preferable to a Job.
So I finally bit the bullet and preorder this game. Probably shouldn't have since ps2 is current devouring all my time but I haven't played a good mmo for awhile. Hopefully I can find some leveling buddies!
It doesn't look like Bards are support in FFXIV anymore, they're primarily DPS now. Especially if you look at the classes they can pull skills from as of Phase 4 (Lancer and Pugilist).
We need to wait and see for sure, but that's how it's looking right now.
I really want to see Chemist as a healer class/job. I don't have a clue how it would work, I just want to see players chucking Potions at teammates to heal them.
And I want to run around with that big backpack they have in FFT.

"Hey Chemist I need a heal!"
"Alright catch!"
"Catch? Wait- AH GOD THE GLASS EXPLODED IN MY FACE! MY EEEEEYEEEEEEES I'M BLIND!!! WHY GOD, WHY!? WHY DIDN'T WE TAKE THE WHITE MAGE INSTEAD!"

Yup. This. I wish they'd let us know which to level to 15 though. I'm kinda annoyed that I had to suffer through Conjurer to 15, but I guess it won't take too long if I just get into a EXP grind group and bust out my hunting logs.

I always imagined that the bottles would magically uncork in the air while the powder would sprinkle above the intended target like pixie dust.

It really is a fantastic summary of all the major parts of the game.
Well, that's what a Linkshell is for.

I think that mog station might be something different; maybe something related to playstation accounts specifically?

Summon, Esper, GF, Eidolon, Anima
But I really think Primal might be my favorite
I'm still pretty fond of Aeon.
Anima is a type of Aeon.
I just like Primal because, it's a word that instantly evokes its definition

Also, since we've got an Empire with Magitech and steampunk technology, some sort of gadgeteer type class would be neat, or a tech-mage.

Machinist! (Edgar)

Man if they ever add Musketeer as a starting class I can easily see either Gunblade-guy or Machinist as a Job for it.
And I want to run around with that big backpack they have in FFT.

And yes, a Machinist class in the vein of Edgar would be fantastic since we've already got such a strong FFVI vibe coming from the Garlean Empire.
Well, considering one of the bad guys actually wields a badass gunblade, there's certainly no reason lore-wise not to make a class out of it.
But what would you name it? Lightning?
