A Tale of [Fighting Game Thread]s, Eternally Reposted: Mickey's Castle of Collusion

Soul Calibur 2 returns for the PS3 and XBox360, remastered in HD. It is based on the PS2 version, so it features the same modes as the PS2 release including the guest character Heihachi from Tekken.

Also it'll have ONLINE PLAY.

This is the ressurection of the best 3D fighting game in history. The series may have been wounded by shitty sequels, but the soul still burns.

Here's a tutorial:

    New OP is godlai.

Sev: Your gameplay is the most heavily yomi based around. Usually you look for characters that allow you to force guessing situations for big dmg. Even if the guess is mathematically nowhere near in your favor lol. You're happiest when you have either a 50/50, 33/33/33 or even a 75/25 situation to go crazy with. And you will take big risks to force those situations to come up.

I'm actually enjoying SC5 now that Petrokylos or whatever his name isn't such an annoying asshole. I mean, he's still an asshole.. but.. not as much.

I didnt buy SC5 because I've only been relevant with 2 characters in the entire series: zasalamel and darth goddamn vader

I am so trash @ 3d fighters outside of those 2

It's weird.. the timing is so unbelievably different than SC2, and it is very hard to combo. But I'm sure I'll get better at it.

I played the hell out SC1 on my Dreamcast but never played 2. I'll have to check it out.

Now that I have Marvel again I've been checking stuff out. I know I want X-23 on point, as she's awesome. For assist I'm thinking Mags for Disruptor and X-men connection, but I need an anchor.

SC2 was the first fighting game I really got into. I was probably really bad at it, but I can't wait to play it again and spam the shit out of Talim's 33A.

Ugh...so that was the big announcement?

Well, I guess that's cool for people who were SC2 fans.

May still buy it to buy it though but I rather like SC5 these days and was hoping it would up an update adding some of the old cast that didn't make it.

Holy shit at the hate I got in injustice today. 2 dudes were just going in on me for "spamming gun shots" with harley and I got 2 hatemails. The weird thing is, the 2 dudes were death stoke players...

And meh at sc2 online. I played it as much as everyone else, but I'll never understand why people tend to love playing old games with added online. I'm sure the online will be poppin for the first week, then it'll be dead by week two.

I wish they had announced a sc5 xpac instead. :( My favorite 3d fighter of this gen.

because old games are sometimes still fun to play and online lets you play them with your friends more conveniently?

I loved Raphael. Before he became a vampire. I loved swapping between all his stances, parrying stuff, poking and just flowing from move to move.

I will be optimist and assume the money made from this is gonna fund Soul Calibur 5.5 and it will be amazing and bring back all the characters everyone wants and then the soul calibur 5 tourney scene will stop being emo and Soul Calibur will be at Evo again in main game form.

I was thinking Sent to keep the X-men thing going but I don't think I need drones and disruptor. Neither Storm or Logan are great anchors, so maybe I'll say screw and be that guy and run Vergil.

Or I guess I could use Phoenix.

Well...Evo has always had a bias against 3D games and SC5 managed to pull around 460-500 people total when it was there.

I mean it was low compared to some of the other games(except MK which it beat) but then KoF had the T-shirt raffle that year and SFxT dropped like a rock.

But yeah, even with the numbers Evo is just more of a 2D event.

That said I would love an update just to get more characters in. Zasa was my main in 3 and 4(well...I quickly switched from him in 4) and I was sad he didn't make it.

    Well.

    Fuck 'em.

Marvel still headlined over ttt2 and got shitloads more coverage. Only real special thing for tk at final round was the international 5v5 which was one of the coolest things I saw this year.

Still drives me nuts that they left Zasamel and Talim out of 5. Makes 0 sense, especially Zasamel seeing as you know, he doesn't age. I just want to play Opyrrha again. She's how Sophitia should be. No "sorry" after you stab someone in the gut, just pure rage and hatred.

Well, I've been following SC5 since it was announced and what I got from it was Namco basically only give them about 8 or so months to work on the game.

Why a lot of characters didn't make it and the SP content was so anemic.

Which is why I was really hoping for an expansion announcement because even though it was rushed I've had a ton of fun with SC5 and it would be great if they were given a chance to put in all the stuff that didn't make it.

Have they said whether or not SC2 will have all the trappings of the original console releases? I can't find any info on it anywhere

I want the quest mode and all that stuff

If they skimp on it like they did SC1 for XBLA....blech

I recall being extremely disappointed with the amount of Siegfried in sc2

I pretty much went from 2 to 5 and was having a hell of a time trying not to parry every attack.

At the local community college they had a cabinet in a little side cafe and we had a group of regulars that would meet up to play. The main competition was an Astaroth and Knightmare/Rafael

I only skimmed the article, it was too long and rambled too much for me to really want to read it.

While I don't really agree with the guy on a lot of his specifics, inputs and input complexity and having to practice combos and all that does turn a lot of people away from fighting games. I do have friends that have never gotten into fighting games because they can not consistently throw fireballs. Now, if I sit down with them, and see why they can't throw fireballs, I can usually explain to them very quickly what they are messing up (usually pressing punch too soon) and get them throwing fireballs pretty consistently. But not everyone wants to sit through that process. Learning combos is definitely my least favorite part of fighting games.

I love the idea of fighting games like Dive Kick, or Bushido blade, or hell, even something like ST where the combos are relatively short (though really hard to pull off because of the timing requirements). I hate things like one frame links. It's just not what interests me in fighting games. I like the strategy, the mind games, yomi, controlling space, controlling tempo. That is what excites me about fighting games. The thing of course is that the systems that allow combos are also the things that allow a lot of the interesting other things in fighting games, like intricate blockstrings and frame traps and set ups. So, I basically take combos and complicated inputs as a necessary evil to get other things that I want.

But if someone made a fighting game that had everything I liked and simple inputs and simple combos or heck even no combos at all? I would play the hell out of that.
