There, beat it. Kind of disappointed that there isn't a whole second game at the end like in Pikmin 2 I was expecting to collect the rest of the fruit after I beat it, but guess not. Though the fruit is weird since you also consume it at the end of each day. I don't really like it as much as collecting treasure.
Do you get anything for getting all the fruit? Like a different ending or anything?
Oh god I wiped out 83 pikmin due to a bomb rock/spider web mishap.

I don't know if this is the last area, but it certainly seems like a final boss type thing. Without spoiling anything, should I go back to the previous areas and collect the fruit now?

I assume if you run out of juice it's Game Over. Is that true?

Yes.
It's no big dramas if you don't. Minor minor spoilers:
When the game ends it doesn't let you roam the planet after the last boss. However, it's easy to just wind the clock back to the day before, then beat the boss again when you've got the fruit.
I assume if you run out of juice it's Game Over. Is that true?
Yes. But if you do get Game Over, just wind the clock back a day or two and prioritise fruit finding instead of whatever it was you did for those days.
If you collect all the secret files you get a code to watch some videos of Olimar and Louie, according to Miyamoto on MiiVerse. Looks like I need to reload some earlier days and start searching!
I'm up to 4 and I couldn't imagine where the other 6 are, except maybe 1 of them.
The good thing is, if you've filled in the map enough you can scour the area on the gamepad and maybe spot some from above.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the secret files. I aught to find the rest of those (and get the rest of the fruit). I guess I can just reload before the last boss fight.
I'm so torn with the controls in this game. I love the pointing precision with the Wiimote setup, but with the gamepad I'm finding it a lot more easier the navigate with the map, especially when you tap the compass icon so it matches your heading, and auto-moving captains with the map to multi-task. At times I find myself just staring at the map to move my captain though explored areas faster just because its easier to get my bearings that way.
Putting down my Wiimote constantly to swipe my map gets annoying, even though I have a laptop stand (being used more as a TV dinner tray...) to put my Gamepad+stand on.
Also, there's no way to cancel a throw once you have a pikmin ready with the A button held? Pretty sure you could put down a pikmin in previous games but I'm not sure if I'm remembering right.

I used both. The game pauses as soon as you touch the touch screen, so it's really easy to use both control methods. I used the Wiimote for most gameplay, and the touch screen for when I wanted to move someone independantly of my main squad.
Also, as far as I could tell, if you move someone via the touch pad, they do not move at full speed. So I didn't want to use that for everything.

So that loser that I can't stand stole all my juice. I don't know where he went, and know Brittany keeps yelling at me.
On the plus side I sure showed that lobster who's boss. And he gave me Starfruit, one of my favorite citrus ever. It looks so good I wish I had one here to eat.
Well I am getting more used to managing the Wiimote and gamepad. I just needed to stop staring at the map constantly. Yeah the map gives a lot of info, but not enemy locations, need to stop "map walking" into unexplored areas...
Also, I don't think this game uses Wii Motion Plus at all. The electronic manual doesn't mention any specific functionality/benefits to having a Motion Plus dongle/Wiimote+. Also, the game doesn't prompt you to put your remote on a flat surface like other motion plus games. I'm gonna try playing without my motion+ dongle to see if there is any difference in aiming the pointer.
Pretty sure motion plus support is pretty much dead now, it's a shame since barely any games used it, even on the Wii.

Woo-ha! Ok I got all my tasty juice back and I have that lame-wad captive again.
Oh, and game, what the heck, you apparently decided that all manners of horrors wasn't enough for my Pikmin that you decide to throw an entire Island Monster at them? I mean, what the bloody heck?!?!
I just killed some big stomping spider thing, but the fruit that fell out of it landed in the water and I don't have any blue Pikmin.
It will be there on later days, I'm pretty sure. Come back after the storyline has progressed a bit.
That is an odd area though. I entered it via the 'raised' gate that requires Pink-min and took down the creature with 90 blues. Only afterwards I noticed the other way to get in there. There's a few places like that, where fights will be easier or harder depending on how early the player tries to tackle them.
If you can bait the big dudes with the tongues who like to gobble up Pikmin with a bomb carrier, boom, instant kill. I found this out on accident of course.

So I started playing this with my 7-year-old daughter. This is both of our first Pikmin game. I played a bit of the first two, but never owned either of them. Anyway, it's pretty funny because she gets super protective of her Pikmin, and really emotional when even one or two of them get killed or eaten by enemies. Like, we're talking full-blown emotional breakdown, tears streaming down her face here.
I ended up having to tell her that the Pikmin don't die, they just return to the Onion and are reincarnated into new Pikmin. I don't know if she believed me. She looked pretty skeptical.

The monsters eat the Pikmin; the monsters poop; the poop fertilizes the ground; the pellet flowers grow from the ground; and the pellets turn into more pikmin!

I beat the game, but unfortunately I can't 100% it without replaying a lot due to a bug; long story short, at the end of the day some Pikmin were scene-changing with half of a fruit, they disappeared, weren't counted as dead due to neglect, and I only ever got half of the fruit in, while the other half vanished.
Pretty good game, but I do still think Pikmin 1 and 2 were better overall.

Is there a certain amount of fruit I'm supposed to pick up before the game ends? Does that affect the outcome at all?
I freak out about stragglers whenever the end of the day nears - I like how there's an onscreen count and a gamepad detailed count of the number of pikmin in danger as time winds down. So far I luckily have no pikmin left behind. Is there still the dramatic scene of straggler pikmin running towards your ship and onions just after you blast off, only to be savagely devoured by beasts?

Turns out, the entire game is just a dream of Olimar's.

Also, I blew up a whole group of Pikmin by accidentally detonating some bomb rocks. Pikmin flew everywhere.
I once tried to kill a spider using my regular Pikmin. I threw the entire squad into the web trying to hit the spider...
... and then accidentally threw in a bomb.
It was a sad day, but at least the replay on the map looked quite spectacular!
It's times like that where the Restart Day option is great.
