When Pentecost decided to pilot Eureka with Aussie Jr., he made a comment about how he "was his father's son" so drifting with him wouldn't be a problem. Were those two partners at some point, or was he just implying that they knew each other really well?
Maybe, I just took it as a compliment to both the Hansens, since Herc (the father) is a veteran and his son took after him.
When questioned about the ability to drift together Marshal Stacker Pentecost (yes I had to type out the whole name) says to Chuck Aussie Jr. something to the effect of:
"you're an egotistical jerk with daddy issues. I've had you figured out from day one. And, me, I take nothing into the drift."
Meaning, Chuck's contribution to the mind meld is going to have zero effect on the Marshal and the Marshal himself is such a consummate professional badass that he doesn't even carry his memories into the drift.
He also says "but you are your father's son and we will have no problems"
Meaning, they'll have enough physical compatibility to run Striker Eureka. Either Herc and Stacker have piloted together before, or more likely, Stacker has worked with Herc for years and he is familiar with his tactics.

Listening to the soundtrack as I drink and clean my house.
I may or may not be stomping around with a confident swagger.
Are Harmony Gold the ones that prevent recent Macross stuff from coming to the US? Because fuck those guys.
Yes. They base their entire ownership claim on a note that may or may not exist and thirty years later their shitbag lawyers still keep other companies away from macross
I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.
their argument comes down to since macross is part of their "shared universe" i.e. robotech any macross sequels do damage to it
how macross 2 (which wasn't done by the macross guys) and macross plus came out here is beyond me. harmony gold must have been distracted by something shiny
Almost. I would say it's the name of an Jaeger repurposed by the baddies, maybe even a Kaiju/Jaeger abomination sent to arrest the development of humanity, thus leading mankind to eventual destruction.
(and somehow classics 2006 jetfire didnt merit a response)
Pretty sure it was because they made it look enough like the cartoon version (without the armor).
Also, I loved that mold.

Guy's, we have all forgotten the best part of the movie
Mako(In Japanese): He's.... Not quite what I expected.
Raleigh(In Japanese):Better, or worse?
I mean, it really, REALLY sets a fantastic tone for the rest of the movie.
Except that
I felt it kinda went against his description earlier about him not being particularly academic or adept in sports, just good at fighting.
Just randomly hey! I can speak Japanese for Reasons.
He wouldn't need it to work on the wall or to be a Jaeger rockstar pilot, so I am just wondering why he knows Japanese so well to be fluent.
It's more or less
Social barriers have started to break down in the 15 or 20 so years, thanks to everyone pooling all thier resources to build Jaegers.
I mean, Stacker is American right? He was one of the main pilots for the Japanese Jaeger's.
It's my take on it that being capable of syncing with someone to pilot a Jaeger is so rare, you need to be able to partner with anyone, of any nationality. Hell, they probably had Language courses.
And if that isn't a suitable reason, hell, Stacker probably taught him

Stacker Pentecost is British. As for Raleigh, maybe he just understands Japanese well enough to respond to simple phrases. As is mentioned, lots of cooperation between Pan Pacific countries probably made picking up the languages of the big Jaegar producing countries a necessity. Or maybe Raleigh and Yancy grew up watching loads of anime, who knows?

I do find it odd that
Raleigh never met his boss' adopted daughter until then. They work together for years and that's the first he hears of her?
I dunno, I felt that and Stacker drifting with the Aussie at the end were the only real "holes" in the plot, and I use that loosely.
Thematically, I guess you could explain it the way you did, but then why is Mako so shocked that he knows Japanese? She clearly wasn't expecting him to know how to speak it, so it can't be that common.
At the very least, it seemed like a less plausible thing with the info we were presented than Raleigh not using the chain sword immediately. Everyone jumps on that when they leave, but I felt the movie presented with good answers as to why and had it fit really well into the big picture on that, but the Japanese thing...just felt out of place.
I might be completely alone in thinking that, but eh.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

Well, in the prequel comic
Stacker, after adopting Mako, mentions to her that they would be going to Alaska for a few weeks before heading for Lima. I figure Pentecost, being the Marshall, jumped all around the PPDC Shatterdomes routinely while Mako committed herself to becoming a Jaegar pilot back at whatever Shatterdome was Stacker's main base.

After the movie my sister told me he said that phrase incredibly awkwardly
Yeah it pretty much sounded like he'd learned the phrase on set that day. Also
literally speaking, he didn't actually say "Better or worse?" He just repeated back what she said, basically saying "I'm not, huh?" I felt the same as munkus, that it seemed weird he would know any Japanese at all. But at least it was a simple phrase, and he didn't even say it very well, so it's a bit more believable that way.

Maybe
The translators just weren't on the ball?
I was confused as to why they had Mako say "I love you, teacher." in Japanese when Stacker blew the nuke but didn't have any subtitles for that moment.
But I do find that hilarious that he kinda garbled out his phrase horribly, it makes their introduction sequence even more awkward!

Unlikely, those were really easy phrases. They went for the "loose idea" style of translation. It would have read kind of weird if they had just the same subtitle again with a question mark.

And his accent was garbage.
These things are both correct.
Also, her apology was a lot more complicated than the subtitles would suggest.
I had to hold back a giggle, it seemed like they were making a subtitle joke.
Rinko Kikuchi is a blast to watch.
But really they should just make Samurai Jack the Movie.
