I'd go all digitial, but there's no way I can afford the memory cards required. I've already filled up a 32 GB card.

I only have 2 physical Vita games and that's only because I had the chance to buy them significantly cheaper than they were currently priced digitally.

    Pity it's the PS1 version.

Yeah, it's not a great version by any stretch, but I'm going to put it on my Vita and kick around a playthrough of it anyway. Because it's FFV and it's been like four months since I played it.

I never knew people liked FFV so much. Or is it a bss thing?

There's a yearly challenge to play the game with specific jobs for charity. Many people regard it as the best Final Fantasy game, and it's definitely the most replayable game in the series.

edit: To be absolutely clear, though, the PS1 version of FF5 is by far the worst version of the game available. GBA > iOS >>>>>> PS1.

But people say it's the best in terms of gameplay, not story, right? I don't have an opinion on FFV, I've never really played it, it's just that I'm always hearing about FFIV and FFVI.

The story is nothing to write home about, it's got some nice characterization and plots along at a breakneck speed. The gameplay is definitely where it shines.

As far as version differences goes, pretty simple breakdown:

SFC: Great sound, plays flawlessly... is in Japanese. Not a bad option if you can read the language or follow a translation guide.
PS1: Horrendous localization, has load times... had some save bugs too, if I'm not mistaken. Has a bestiary as bonus content. It can't be understated just how terrible the translation is, though.
GBA: Differently arranged (and not quite as good IMO) sound to the prior versions, but otherwise the perfect port. Has bonus dungeons and jobs and a new, actually good translation
iOS: Uses the GBA translation and bonus content, but has a new "HD" art style and in-game fonts which looks terrible. Also (obviously) has touch controls, but they're not terrible.

I guess I'm gonna try playing the iOS version, because I don't have any easy way to buy the GBA version.

It's actually not too hard to find over on eBay. Looking quickly right now yields a cart for under $18 shipped that doesn't appear to be counterfeit. But, of course, you'd also need to own a GBA/NDS/DSLite/Gamecube Game Boy Player to play it.

But yeah, the iOS version is fine if your choices are that or the PSX version. And the PSX version is also fine if you really don't have any other options. FF5 is worth it.

edit: Oh yeah, you're in Brazil, right? Ignore the ebay advice, heh.

Yeah, it's just not worth the hassle importing it... But thanks for the effort anyway <3

I'm actually glad that FFV iOS is still 2D and not 3D like FF4 iOS, because the latter runs very bad on my trusty 4S.

As someone who's never played any other version of FF V other than the PS1 version - there's nothing wrong with it really. I didn't notice any issues with loading on my PS3 and I guess I don't notice bad translations (maybe I watched too many bad fan subs back in my anime days and grew immune). If the PS1 version is the easiest avaliable way to play, just do it and enjoy that sweet, sweet job system goodness.

I found doing by computer and scheduling it to download to my vita worked the fastest.

I'd love to go all digital for my vita but with the bigger memory cards being so expensive, it's just not possible. It's no big deal though, as I mostly play Indy games on it. So switching cards is a pretty rare problem.

I have 0 physical Vita games. I do have a 32GB memore card in it, though. It's not too bad. I just delete the stuff I haven't played in a while. Except Gravity Rush. I will never remove Gravity Rush from my Vita.

So I want to get Persona 4 Gold but $30 is a bit pricy for a game I probably wont really be into so I was wondering if Sony does sales on stuff like that? I could have sworn someone said it was on sale not too long ago so I was hoping it might happen again.

It's been $20 on PSN a number of times. If you feel the need to wait, it's probably a safe bet that you can wait and get it for $20 within a month or two. And Amazon and such seem to have it for around $20 from time to time too.

Even though it's out of stock, you can still order Persona 4 Golden directly from Amazon for $16.99 and they should honor that price when it comes back in stock and ships.

That is why I want to get it. Everyone seems to say great things about it. I generally like RPGs, I have a psychotic amount of hours in Pokemon and Demon's/Dark Souls. I've never been able to get very far in any Final Fantasy games except one I played on the gameboy, either 1 or 2 where I could have a robot on my team and I remember fighting Aphrodite at some point.

But yea, hopefully I can get into it.

My best guess about the Shahid thing is that he's trying to get FF Type 0 on Vita. Not doing so would be beyond stupid, even for Square. The game's been translated. Square did it simultaneously then sat on it because they think it won't sell.

Also, the content manager is amazing. Connect to PC via wifi, save, transfer, done.

Wouldn't be the first time. They pulled that shit with basically the last few years of Dragon Quest games -- DQ5, 6, and Joker2 were all translated, and then... sat on. Nintendo had to swoop in to save their asses.

I honestly don't think it's because they're stupid, I think it's because they literally can't make a profit on a game that won't sell 500k-1m copies due to overhead / corruption / Dilbert principle / etc. These are people who thought that 3m+ sales for Tomb Raider was a sales flop; how are they going to handle a game that doesn't even go platinum?

While it sounds bafflingly stupid on paper, in practice it may be because if they think it will sell poorly they'd rather not proceed further on it than have to release it to shitty quarterly numbers, panicky stockholders, and ignorant game magazines/reviewers wondering why the hell Square would release something on PSP nowadays.

Which is hilariously ironic considering they went on to release FF13-3 which proceeded to immediately crater.

The whole #jrpgvita thing has been a thing for a while --- originally I wanted to believe it was Persona 5, now my pie in the sky dream is Type-0 ported to Vita and that's what probably involves a bit of incentive from Sony. Merely bringing PSP Type-0 to the West would be cool enough though. Or convincing Namco Bandai to localize the Tales games.

Honestly, it doesn't matter, it can be a new indie game, I just know I want it. Gimme gimme gimme.

    Yup

Sales went from 277k on the first week, dropped to 60k on the next week, and over this last week flatlined to 20k.

From what I understand, even Square didn't have full confidence in it, only shipping about 385,000 copies to retailers at release. I don't know if they have made more available since, though.

If you are put off by the first couple hours of P4G, stick with it until the Castle dungeon. The first couple hours of the game introduce a lot of concepts, but it's at a kind of meandering pace.

The thing that got me was the voice actors. I found them incredibly annoying.

I actually found the awful voice acting kind of endearing. Like House of the Dead 2 or something. I just didn't care for the battle system and the hallway simulator.

I own three physical games, LittleBigPlanet, Tearaway and (sob) Batman.

Batman is getting traded at some point for a physical Soul Sacrifice unless it turns up on PS+.

Tearaway had a reversible cover so was totally worth getting a physical copy of :p

You're in luck! Soul Sacrifice is next months free game :D

P4G's voice acting was fine, especially Chie's new VO (the old one was terrible).

In PAL news, here's January's PS+ lineup (check the PSN thread for the full list):
    24th December: Soul Sacrifice (PSV)
24th December: Blazblue Continuum Shift Extend (PSV)

    And new Christmas deal:
The Walking Dead (PS Vita) - Was €19.99/AU$24.95/£14.99, now €9.99/AU$14.95/£6.99
Additional 10% discount for PS Plus members
