If you thought the voice acting in P4G was bad I just don't even know
Of all the complaints you could level against that game that is seriously one of the fishiest
Troy Baker, Johnny Yong Bosch, Laura Bailey, I mean come on, these are huge names in the VA world, and that's only the start
Yeah, I mean, I know a thing or 2 (thousand) about bad VA (being not-American, and having worked with localization and VA), and P4G's is just excellent.
Do all the old PSP games play nice with Vita? The ones you can get via the store, of course.
There are a handful of PSP games that are on the PSN but don't work on the Vita (Brave Story being one of the big ones) but if a PSP game works on the Vita, it plays better on the Vita than it ever did on the PSP. More control options, visual options, and slightly faster load times to boot.

...Except for Mimana. Even the Vita was unable to fix that train wreck.
Not that it matters, I'll never go back to that game again... played for hours, beat many missions, forgot to save that whole time...
It has a widescreen stretch effect that's...tolerable, at best - but then for some reason Square thought it would be a good idea to drastically slow down spell animations for the PSP version.
Neither of which are toggleable settings.
There's a lot of good stuff added in the PSP version granted, but considering you're going to be playing the game this way for the entire course of the game, I personally don't think it's worth it.
People usually cite slowdown during big spells and summons, which is totally understandable, and the rewritten script, which some people think is a huge improvement because the story actually makes sense now, and some people dislike because it's flowery.
If you are put off by the first couple hours of P4G, stick with it until the Castle dungeon. The first couple hours of the game introduce a lot of concepts, but it's at a kind of meandering pace.
The thing that got me was the voice actors. I found them incredibly annoying.
I actually found the awful voice acting kind of endearing. Like House of the Dead 2 or something. I just didn't care for the battle system and the hallway simulator.
I can't believe you compared P4G voice acting with HoTD2.
Like... Wow.

So, I'm seriously considering picking up a Vita as an early christmas present to myself. The Amazon $189 holiday bundle thing looks good, but I figured I'd check with the experts over here to see if that really is the best bang for my buck. What do you guys think is the best deal to get your hands on a Vita right now?

Check Craigslist. Or if you're a GAF member there's always one on sale in the Buy/Sell Thread there with tons of extras. I got mine from a guy there for 200 bucks, came with a 32GB card, 2 games, and two hard cases.
My buddy got his on CL for 150 bucks with a 32GB card.

The Amazon deal is probably your best bet for a new Vita at the moment. None of the games are worth all that much (Uncharted is free with PS+, RCR is a cheap download game, Sly was on sale for $10 during BF, and Walking Dead has had numerous sales), but it's still a Vita for $10 less than retail with various cheap games thrown in.
Or like Allforce mentioned, you can get a much better deal if you go used, but I've had bad experiences with used hardware before so I'd rather go the new route.
Yeah obviously buyer beware, but the Vita is easy to test at a meeting with someone from CL. GAF is a safe bet because that thread is self-policed for the most part and the people selling shit are true collectors and game enthusiasts and keep their stuff top-notch.
I mean the Vita I bought came in the original box with the ORIGINAL PLASTIC on the games and manuals inside. I was impressed.
Yeah...that's something I'm worried about too. Used games tends to be an ok affair, but back in the day I picked up a used PSP from my local game crazy and it broke in like a week. They got me a new one of course, but that one broke too! After that, I just asked for my money back. Wasn't worth it. Might go New just to hopefully avoid such a cycle as that.

I always buy new, especially with a system. It's a peace of mind thing.
Plus other people have dirty hands! Don't want their gross hand goo all over my sweet, sweet Vita.
I wish I could get FFT on my Vita. I have the actual disk for it.
PS1 classic and the awful PSP version are both available on the Vita.
In the NA at least - Or are you regionboned?
Yeah I could buy it again... I'd just rather not.
Yeah the PSP version had an amazing script but that spell slowdown thing was incredibly annoying. How that got past QA I'll never know.
The conversation probably went something like this:
QA: "Hey, we've noticed that there's slowdown whenever there's an effect on screen. Is that supposed to happen?"
Programmer: "Does the game crash?"
QA: "No."
Programmer: "Working as Intended. It's To Spec." (GO AWAY).
I actually prefer the PSP version for the extra content (more classes and characters, and co-op multiplayer) and the translation. The spell effect slowdown is tolerable. It's a turn-based SRPG, so it's not like the lag affects the gameplay. It's just the aesthetics.
I bought a vita as a gift through this thread, and it came perfectly and made my brother pretty happy. It was in fantastic condition with a bunch of extras.

You might be able to Remote Play it through your PS3? I mean, I'm not sure, but it's possible and considering it's a turn-based game, lag won't be too much of an issue.

Well I meant the PSP version, but I do think I have the PSX version laying around here somewhere....

And if you pay attention enough you can hear Steve Blum as Stormtrooper #378 as well.

I haven't heard of any issues. I've only played a handful of PSP games on my VIta, though.

Awesome. This will be the 2nd game I get for the Vita (first is the CE of Muramasa- love the look of the game plus like that case a bunch).
