I finished dungeon 4 last night in P4G. The 8-bit Void Quest dungeon. The music in there is incredible.
And the omelette cook-off that happened afterwards is probably my favorite scene so far.
I do have a question though -- How long does summer break last in this game? I feel like now that I've wrapped up this bit of story, I'm in a really long holding pattern. Should I just continue building social links? Or what should I be doing with my time right now?

Never stop building S.Links
Unless you still have character traits to work on, in which case try and work on those so that they are maxed for your second playthrough and you can focus exclusively on S.Links

I think school resumes in very early September. S.Links are the big thing to do until then, there's also a couple special events to go to. If you have a big quest backlog, now's a good time to take care of what you have, as well as going to take down some of the optional bosses in the Midnight Channel. If you haven't been doing your bike rides to the point that you've unlocked at least Okina City, you should do that now too, there's a couple useful time options there. You should probably be close to having a social stat or two maxed as well.

My social stats are all on the second to final dot. I think my courage might be maxed. I've maxed Chie and Yukiko's social links. Yosuke is at 8 so I'll probably try to finish him next.
Does Kanji have a social link? I haven't even once seen him wanting to hang out. I haven't been using him in my dungeon party because of that. Hard to replace characters who have high social links with a character that doesn't seem to have one at all.

Yes, starting Kanji's is weird...
You have to talk to a girl near the stairs of the second floor of the school about a bully to get things rolling. Since school is out you may have to wait until September, now.
Be forewarned that another upcoming S.Link has a similar precondition, so keep an eye on what's going on in town.

Yosuke just asked me to help him at Junes for a week because they're short staffed.
My instinct is to say no and continue doing my own thing and work on social links with the ladies. If I go with my instinct on this one, am I going to miss out on anything significant?

You miss out on some costumes (if it's Halloween like I think it is).
If you don't care and want to pick it up on a future playthrough, just work on the S.Links. Yosuke is disappointed but other than that there are no real repercussions.
If it isn't Halloween, there's especially no reason to do it.
When Yosuke asks you to help him out at Junes, the basic premise is that he gives you money for it by the end; quite a bit too. So if your money woes are quite huge, then it wouldn't hurt to help him out. The game gives you *PLENTY* of time to max out the S. Links of all your party members, get the true ending, and max S. Links of a few other characters too. Hell, and that's if you *aren't* playing hardcore, because it should be possible to max ALL S. Links... though the timing is super strict.
I'm embarassed to admit that though I've owned and played nearly every SMT game to come out in NA since I saw Eternal Punishment in a Kay Bee Toys store when I was a tween, I've never actually beaten one. I think it's time to rectify that. Going to start with either Eternal Punishment or P3 FES I think. I have more time to dedicate to games these days (for better or for worse) and it simply won't do for me to be recommending these games to pleople when I can even find the wherewithal to clear one my own damn self.

Why would you say no to your bro, Brosuke? Bros before S-Link... o's.
Yosuke is no bro of mine. He's a giant cock blocker is what he is. Always showing up when I'm out with a lady friend. Always saying retarded stuff and killing the mood.

Decided to start with Eternal Punishment since it's the one that started it all for me. So many feels...
But that voice acting though. Ye gods, that voice acting is just so, so bad. Makes you appriciate that games are much more likely to provide you with an option for Japanese voices now. Also, I don't remember playing using the map. How in the hell did I get anywhere in this game without using the map? I even got past the air museum shenanigans without it. Must've been pure luck. These levels are mazes in fact if not in name.
I must not be grinding enough because I keep beating bosses by the skin of my teeth where only one hero still stands when the final villain falls and it's usually Ulala for some reason. She's seriously out leveling Maya because of this. Frustrating. Stop dying, Ma-ya! I think I'm already almost to the spot I got stuck when I was younger. Look forward to being able to hit sections of this game with fresh eyes...

Some of the voices are great. Joker and Baofu especially.
I'm reaching the end of P3P and felt the need to mention briefly just how much I'm liking it. How it plays with themes of death and fatalism makes the recent games 2 for 2 in my book, so I'm looking forward to P5 more than ever. I think playing through P4A's story mode has made a couple parts of this somewhat less moving, just because I knew what was coming or what is still to come, but yeah. P3P is really great, SMT/P thread!

So I gotten a 2DS and grabbed SMTIV and put in about 12 or so hours into it.
This game has it head up its ass so hard sometimes that I wonder why I even bother playing. That Minotaur fight was so much bullshit, watching him crit oni-whatitscalled 4 times in a row wiping my party in one turn. Had to fight him a dozen fucking times before I barely scrapped by a win. The Medusa fight would of been just as bad if I didn't fuse a Demon that repels bullets.

Was there a chance to see the other Tokyo areas if I went back to see Akira?

Yes.
The game does its level best to make you feel like a bad person.
Why I fear the ocean.
