If they can match the localization track that they had for SMT4 with Persona 5 I would be very happy.

Just...make sure it's not the quality of Soul hacker's localization. Cause that was kinda bad at times.

Wasn't Soul Hackers working of the Sega Saturn/Playstation version of the game? So, that localization was super old. I would assume that was the issue.

Has Atlus mentioned if they're going to clean-up and re-release any of the other PS2 era SMT games? Digital Devil Saga, Nocturne, and what not?

I am pretty new to the SMT series, and there are a lot of gems that I haven't played, simply because when those games were current I didn't really even know of their existence. Of course, I say gems without really knowing anything about them.

It was never localized. This was the first official translation.

They are gems for sure. However, I believe Bursar mentioned that they've had a hell of a time getting them to work right on the PS3.

The 3DS thread mentioned that Soul Hackers was on sale for 20 bucks in the eShop. I think it ends in the 17th.

Besides, half the time even when the demon's dialog is translated, I'm sitting there going, "Um...Ok?"

Then I pick a random response. I think I have a higher success rate randomly picking things than trying to intellectualize it. The only success I've had with dialog is this newest run through Persona 2 where I figured out that Ulala with rope a Fool personality and Katsuya will rope a Wise personality. I still haven't found a solid use for Maya's Interview though...or Baofu's phone tapping thing.

I've got a couple social link questions for P4G.

First -- Is it possible to bank social points for future advancements? Like let's say a Link is rank 7, and the last time I hung out with that person I got the message that said "You feel your relationship will grow deeper soon." If I hang out with that person again at night or at school for a study session, can I bank those social points forward for growth into rank 9 or 10, since rank 8 is already assured the next time we hang out after school? Or should I do something else with my time if my current rank is about to advance?
Second -- Someone mentioned that there's a pre-condition to unlocking Naoto's social link. I have rescued her and I found her in the hallway at school. The game told me that I need to do something before my relationship with her can advance. However, I've talked to every person in the school on a couple different days and I can't seem to find the trigger. A little help here?

Naoto's social link is unlocked after a certain point in the story.

I believe thread convention is to spoiler the second question.

First - I don't know if anyone's figured that out. I've never seen a definitive answer. You certainly couldn't skip over the rank 8 event, but it's theoretically possible that you could bank points such that 8 to 9 was easier. I don't actually know though.

Second - That certain point in the story is after 10/21. You still need to do something more after that point:
There's a mysterious man hanging out at the north end of the Central Shopping Region that you need to talk to.

For the first, everything I've read says no. Your points get reset when the rank up event starts. I can double check the official Japanese guide tonight to see if there's anything in there.

Mass Effect and Dragon Age have spoiled me on RPGs in which multiple scenarios are accounted for, based on player decisions. Hopefully they'll be able to fit more eventualities into P5 when it comes out.

Take this scenario in P4 for example. I just completed it:
It's the Culture Festival. The MC is sitting at at table with Chie and Yukiko, both of whom are rank 10, and both of them professed their love and are in an "intimate" relationship with the MC. However, when they ask the MC what kind of girls he likes, the reaction I chose basically ignored the above stated information. I picked "I like girls like Yuki" as my option. She blushed as if that was the first time she's ever heard me say that to her. And Chie did not respond at all.

There should've been a big jaw dropping moment, where the two of them realize that they're both in a relationship with the same boy.

Additionally, the two of them never get jealous in the slightest when Rise flirts with the MC, not even when the MC encourages her flirtations.

I've just unlocked my Naoto social link, and it's only rank 2 right now, but I've already had options to flirt with her in that short period of time. The MC is such a dick for stealing Kanji's girl. Especially when one of the flirts I did was right in front of him. And again, no reaction.

Regarding Marie, she's up to rank 9 now, and many of her little social link scenes involve the whole damn gang showing up and being there as I entertain her. And not once do any of the girls get jealous or react to the fact that I'm showing a relative stranger around town in a very date-ish scenario, behind their backs.

I guess I just wish there were a bit more repercussions for my actions. And I wish that scenes had been scripted in multiple ways to take into account various relationship statuses and decisions that have been made.

    I was really hoping that
the last dungeon was going to be Izanami being Shadow Izanagi, and the MC was going to have to face his shadow. Then you could have the whole Chrono Trigger trial scene where all the seemingly meaningless game events become character assassination. "He stole my lunch!" "He cheated on me!" "And me!" "And me!" "He punched me in the face to prove we were friends!" etc etc etc It being just Ameno-sagiri the TRUE FORM kind of made me sad.

Much like P3 confronted its final theme in the last battle/ending, I wanted P4's theme to get confronted in the Truth dungeon. You have to face yourself, including all the bad shit you did.

I actually kind of prefer P3's approach to it, because it doesn't pretend. No meaningless choices. P4 gives you all these options and pretends they matter, but nothing actually changes. They try to make you feel bad in the one event, but you find out as soon as the event ends it's as if it never happened.

    Great Kaz interview:
    http://dijeh.tumblr.com/post/76052030250/devil-summoner-interview-i-was-bored-so-here-you
Devil Summoner interview! I was bored so here you go, another interview with Kaneko about some Devil Summoner design details, favourite girls and Lucifer and gyudon.

Born on the 20th of September in Showa 39, Kazuma Kaneko was in charge of both the world setting and character design for Megami Tensei 2 and Shin Megami Tensei and coordinated to a certain extent Majin Tensei and Last Bible. This time, together with an even stronger staff, his position for Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner was closer to that of director and he will talk about the usual objective, “creating characters that everyone will remember”.

Q: How did you become in charge of the graphics for the Megaten series?
A: Truth is, I was a fan of the Famicom version of Megami Tensei. It was published by Namco, so when I entered Atlus and heard they were the actual creators, I thought “Lucky~”. Anyway, if I’m going to make graphics, then I want them to be for the Megaten series I love. I became part of the creative team since Megami Tensei 2.

Q: Which are your favourite male and female characters so far?
A: Working on “Summoner” made Rei Reiho my favourite. I can’t get enough of her “playing dumb” moments. Even if her partner’s inside changes, she won’t notice that at all (laughs). The second one is SMT2’s Beth. As I was drawing her, I thought “Huh, she’s reaaally beautiful”. Her setup is great. A woman that exists for your sake. She’s beautiful, but at the same time she brings that sorrow of a brain-washed robot. I’m really attached to her.

Q: I see. I also heard that “if…“‘s female protagonist was among your favourites.
A: Oh! Her image is based on Uchida Yuki. She’s my third favourite.

    Q: How about “Devil Summoner”?
A: Probably Kisaragi Marie (laughs). At first, I proposed that her name be Oda Meiko, from the movie “Ghost“‘s fortune teller, Oda Mae…Since I kept calling her that, the staff gathered signatures and asked me to stop. Made me feel a little lonely (laughs).

    Q: Your favourite male characters?
A: I’m not too attached to male characters (laughs). As expected, I like drawing female characters better.

    Q: And demons?
    A: I can’t choose, it’s hard. I’ve drawn too many (laughs).

Q: What do you think about Lucifer?
A: He’s a character I think highly of rather than have him among my favourites. To me, Lucifer hasn’t achieved his perfect form yet. He actually has 12 wings, but in the games he’s only appeared with 6.

Q: Then the next time he appears, he’ll receive a bigger “upgrade”. Speaking of which, he’s also appeared under a human form.
A: Yes, Louis Cypher, wearing European-style suits with a silken pocket square on his chest. This is just my imagination but, after eating gyudon or so, he’d probably go “Phoaa”, take it out and wipe his mouth, then say “Mn, thank you for the meal” (laughs). I wonder, is this some kind of attachment?

Q: What are your favourite art materials?
A: I’m using a MAC and now that I’ve finally learnt about extraction, I’m not wasting too much time anymore. For the recent Shin Megami Tensei 2 Demon Encyclopedia, I used Too’s Copic, since there were a lot of models in a short amount of time. I use Liquitex for game covers .

Q: What kind of music do you listen to during work?
A: Eh, the type of music you hear in clubs. House. By the way, I don’t listen to hard rock at all. During the time of SMT2, I wanted a “metal” feel, so leather was the main style, but in the end that was only their fashion sense.

Q: Is Kuzunoha Kyouji’s appearance inspired by Lupin the Third?
A: It’s one of the inspirations, yes. In my mind, Kyouji’s appearance was a mix of the first animated Lupin the Third, the TV version of “Detective Story”, “Ace Ventura Pet Detective” and the "Rock ‘n’ Roll Detective" from “The Adventures of Ford Fairlane”.

Q: Have you been told you resemble Lupin yourself?
A: I’m aware of that myself (laughs). Manga characters have the same appearance all year round and it makes me think they’re probably very particular about their garments. So if you open the dresser, won’t lines of identical clothes pop out? I can’t actually do that, but I’m aiming for that sort of image (laughs).

Q: How do you see “Devil Summoner”?
A: It’s got a “Megaten Detective” image to me. The content is silly and hard-boiled…I guess (laughs)? Visually-wise, I thought I’d hint at those “hard-boiled” characteristics. That’s why I gave Rei Reiho a rokumonsen choker. Rokumonsen is the fee needed to pass the Sanzu River; in other words, she is always ready to die. Well, she’s got this cool setup, but on the other hand she is also wearing that weird red hairband. Let’s call it a symbol of that “silliness” (laughs).

Q: About the arm terminal…The Megaten world has got an unexpectedly technologically advanced society and yet the hardware and the monitor are linked through a cable. Why?
A: That is in order to avoid electronic jamming. Having a cable will reduce the risks of getting hacked. Apparently PHS and microwaves are bad for the brain…but oh weeell, I didn’t really think about it (laughs).

Q: Why do they always differ?
A: For the simple reason that having the same model over and over again would be boring. Devil Summoner’s concept is “Megaten Detective”, so I designed it to resemble a gun. It looks like it will transform once you pull the trigger and like that it will do the dirty job (laughs). When you finish, it’s supposed to return to its original form with only one move of the wrist but…it doesn’t look possible (laughs).

Q: Just a trivial question, but why is the monitor of “if…“‘s female protagonist set as goggles, while the male protagonist’s is just one lens?
A: Ooh, you see, that’s because there are a lot of girls who put their glasses on top of their heads. I simply gave the girl protagonist goggles because I thought it looked cute (laughs). Giving them to the male protagonist as well would have been boring, so I only made one version…oh no, if I think about it, I really treat male characters lightly, don’t I (laughs).

Q: For the last question, ideas for the series’ future. There have been “Megaten School” and “Megaten Detective”, so what will the next one be? “Megaten Baseball Team”…?
A: …ooh! I feel like it’s already been done (laughs). “Astro Baseball Team” was nice! I want to do something related to sports too (laughs). Well, the concept for every new game is based on what the staff is into at the moment, so I don’t know how things are going to evolve (laughs).

So how old is this interview? It doesn't talk about anything past Devil Summoner and If...

Pretty old. It was taken around the time Devil Summoner came out, long before Kaneko vanished into his Decarabia cave.

... am I about to die?

Forgetting for a moment that some of those answers are suuuuuuper creepy, it's always awesome to read interviews about these games.

Well... I was actually doing fine for a while. I got him to about 40% before it was game over. Not bad for a first encounter. Apparently the Persona I had equipped on my MC was weak to Dark. The first time the enemy casted a death spell on me, I died. Rise saved him, and then the monster immediately did it again and killed me again. Looks like I need to start packing a Dark immune persona with me. If I can keep the MC alive, I think I can beat this guy.

The reaper is smart and used your weaknesses against you.

The way I used to beat him was to completely protect against that and then he would start spamming almighty attacks. Then (as long as you're high enough level, around 80) it's just a matter of looping attacking and healing, ideally knocking him down once in a while for all-out attacks. Use buffs.

If you're referring to Beth, I agree, one of the reasons I don't dig SMTII much. She's not a character, she's a robot.

At least SMT1's Paula(bonus points if you remember this) and 3's Yuko Takao have character.

Still, Kaz is good at designing classy females. Usually.
