That's right. This year it is all about D&D Next. We'll have the very popular Learn to Play D&D Next, the Forgotten Realms and Confrontation at Candlekeep, and the dastardly deadly dungeon Mines of Madness is featured in our DM's Challenge.

Learn to Play and Candlekeep are perfect for new players to D&D Next. Candlekeep is best for someone who has played any past edition of D&D. Mines of Madness is old school killer dungeon fun for those who feel comfortable with some challenge.

WHERE? The lower level of The Conference Center. Yes! We are back for the third year. This is level below the Magic the Gathering play area. Enter from the corner of 8th and Pike, or for the experienced PAX attendee take the escalator down from the main exhibit hall and keep going down until you get to us.

Is this something that you need to sign up for in advance or is it first come first serve?

First come first served. Last couple of years we didn't have trouble taking people for our regular events like this year's Learn to Play or Candlekeep. It definitely is busy after the main exhibit hall closes, and I expect to be busy with lines waiting most evenings after 7pm.

Special events like this year's DM's Challenge will have lines. They will open 2 hours before the event (that would make them open at 5pm).

The Lords of Waterdeep Tournament is somewhat limited by the number of copies of the game we will have onsite and number of tables. But we can work things out if you are interested in competing.

Is the DM's challenge 4 hours like usual? And what's the plan for PC death in that? I love me some deathtrap dungeons, but would be awful sad to wait in line for an hour just to get killed off quickly.

Really looking forward to this. My wife and I have been buying new dice for the occasion.

The DMs Challenge adventure can be quite nasty. While you may play for 4 hours, I would not expect to finish it.

When/where can DMs sign up for the DM challenge? Presumably it is just done on-site.

Is candlekeep a play once and done thing? Or will different parts of the event go at different days/times? Going to play first thing on Friday, would like to know if I should block our more PAX time for DnD :)

    A couple of answers...

Confrontation at Candlekeep can be played multiple times. The first portion has a number of different paths, but the last portion of the event plays out similarly each time.

Mines of Madness is deadly, but in a tongue-in-cheek sort of way. There are provisions for character death within the adventure to keep players from rage quitting the table.

DMs that want to do the DM's Challenge can contact Robert Altomare by going to the D&D PAX Prime Site and following the instructions in the sidebar "Volunteering to GM."

We'll have all sorts of fun gaming going on in the D&D area at the show, and some goodies as well. Come down to "the Dungeon" in the Annex/Conference Center and check it out!

Please tell me the DM challenge et al will be handled better than at PAX East this year. That was a disaster, and it had such high potential.
