[PATV] Thursday, August 1, 2013 - Shut Up & Sit Down Season 2, Ep. 13: Arabian Nights
This is a really awesome game and I found it for a very good price at a local game shop. It was much cheaper than, say, Descent or that lot. It's really a love/hate game because it can treat you sooo poorly, and yet you must come back for more.

Ooooh, wow, NICE outro there! Really hit the mark well.
The game sounds interesting. I have a bunch of friends who keep buying all kinds of random board games (Power Plant, Seven Wonders and Expansions, Eclipse) so I'm going to recommend that they look for this one next time they get an itch to contribute to the pile.

If the speed of light is faster then the speed of sound, is that why people always appear bright until they speak? o_O
All the players HAVE to buy into the idea of making the game into a story. My sister-in-law just made each move; read out the events straight from the book and ended her go. Drained all the energy out of it. So, good talkers only and it'll be a blast.
Agents of S.M.E.R.S.H. is a pretty wonderful game based on Arabian Nights. It's card-based, but there is a huge book of encounters/ expansion available as well. My group found the book slightly more tedious of a process, though.
There is a lot of tension, as there is a compound effect on most of the outcomes.
Failure means that you're more likely to fail the next thing, and it tends to make for some hilarious stories.

Great game, but as someone already mentioned, you really need buy-in from the other players. The storytelling can get a bit disjointed in places, and it can definitely be very unfair. As long as you are in it for the stories and not the win, it's great fun.
If you try to play it as a game you've already lost. There's technically a goal, but it's not really something anyone can win or lose. It's just about having a great time and experiencing a great story. It's a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure book with a ton of replayability that you go through with your friends.
