Starks pushed back from riverun, all great houses asking us to send all our knights down south to attack baratheons from behind, leaving the north defenceless. Can't see any flaws in this plan.
so I've heard a lot of people describe the mechanics of 13th age as a blend of 3.5 and 4e D&D
but honestly?
the thing it feels most like to me is gamma world
i'm throwing money at the screen but it isnt working
things that contribute to that feeling:
1. the levels only go to 10
2. simplified gear choices that you can flavor as you choose
3. there are a lot of things that trigger on specific die rolls, such a natural even or a natural 15+
4. you add your level as a modifier to most things (instead of 1/2 level like 4e)
5. strong emphasis on setting and flavor
6. simplified monster mechanics to streamline combat
Level 17. Almost at the peak of the game system. What sort of excitement will combat at such high levels bring us?
"I attack twice."
"I attack three times."
"He attacks twice."
"I attack twice."
"You're slowly chipping away at him."
"I make three attacks."
Oh great.
So basically, as with every other edition of D&D, Next is going to have stupidly overpowered characters in near-end gameplay.
balance at high levels has never been a thing in DnD, why would it start now?
No, I...
I was doing a thing...
Because just making a bunch of attacks sounds dreadfully boring and lame.
oh. Yeah multiple attacks coming back isn't great, previous version of your weapon damage just going up was honestly a better idea. but at least it's not like 3rd editions where basically everything after the second attack is going to be hilariously useless in all but the rarest instances.

Although it should probably be noted that the fighter at least was using the 'simple' subclass that doesn't have any active abilities and also didn't have any feats.
There are other subclasses that have more 4e-like encounter-based abilities.
The knight is almost the same as the 4e Knight. It's kind of uncanny.
I really liked the 4e Knight. Charge into the thickest knot of enemies, knock one or two prone. Anyone next to me tries to do anything but attack me, you better bet their ass is prone. Have the controller push other enemies adjacent to me as needed.
Never dealt out spectacular damage, but I was the stickiest of the stickies
There aren't many epic destinies in PHB1 and they aren't super exciting in a fluffy way, but some of them are still some of the most mechanically powerful.

oh, there are epic destinies in PHB1? i must have overlooked them

oh, there they are, before skills
Yeah, there were, 4.
But Demigod is the one you would almost always choose, because it was so much better than the others (though Eternal Seeker could be better if you wanted to mess around with the multiclassing).

Also, if he wanted people to pronounce it "jiff" then he should have fucking spelled it that way.
I can see where this is going.
We're not allowed to discuss this anymore.
Not allowed.
Not in the hallowed ground of the table top thread.
More fun with 2 players than 5, though. With 5 everyone just kind of runs up against each other.
Also playing the game of thrones game at the moment. What hilarious things can you do as Starks?
ooh I know
So to end this post, what the creator wants it irrelevant to what happens.

Well, there's always this for inspiration.
Why I fear the ocean.

I refuse to belive that woman has assassinated anybody.
What's you point?
She isn't an assassin, she's a model. It's just an ad for the gun.
