I....I don't have any words. I just played the best mission, oh my god. I'm gonna spoil it just in case, but it's just WHAT the mission is, not what happens.
Shaundi's loyalty mission. it was the best thing. THE BEST THING!
You know what the tone of the game feels like to me?
Saints Row the Third was sort of like Mass Effect 2, it was the culmination of the series to that point and it really felt like an evolution of the gameplay, style and character over its somewhat clunky but still charming predecessor.
Saints Row IV is Mass Effect 3: Citadel. For those that don't know, a lot of people consider Citadel to be the "true" ending of ME3 because it was essentially a big party where you gathered all your old friends, had a ton of fun trashing some third rate mercs, partied the night away, and had a lot of laughs in the morning.
That's what Saints Row IV feels like to me, a big party where everyone is having fun. Everything supports that, the gameplay, the story, the characters. It's good fanservice, the game.
Played some more today and loving it. Been focusing on getting clusters and doing side stuff and the occasional thing that pops up or I run into.
Got unlimited sprint which is very nice, hated running out of stamina. Makes getting that upgrade kinda pointless now. Clusters wise I got over five hundred clusters left and tons of powers upgraded.
What happens when you collect them all? Do enemies immediately combust into flames when they glance in your direction?
My best guess is that you become one with the system. Buildings will turn into massive replicas of the Saints to squish their enemies. Flying wangs will bombard all aircraft. Cops will form giant penis arms to bash foes with. And living angel Gat's will blast a cap in each ass.
I thought male and female share the same haircut-pool.
They do but the ones designed for females look better done to me. Combine that with more clothing options, and it was a quick decision to go full pretty princess dressup route.
So, the dubstep gun is pretty bad when you get it.
Go on though, upgrade it(particularly explosive wubs). Never worry about crowd control again my friends.
An issue with the dubstep gun is that by default it doesn't give you much feedback on when it's done its job since enemies killed still are suspended in the air. Explosive wubs do a long way in fixing that.
As someone who has never played any of the Saint's Row games, would this be a good game to pick up? Is there anything that should be known other than "over the top zany GTA with superpowers?"

I was sort of sad that they removed cruise control for cars, I liked how you could cruise at moderate speeds in the Third to easily aim and steer while looking for targets. After spending more time leaping and gliding than riding anything else, that sadness over cruise control disappeared real quick.

Yeah, after leaping and flying around, I did a car theft mission. I just felt so.... pedestrian, driving a car.
This game is pretty much perfect. Like... There's almost nothing about it that I do not like. The soundtrack and female voices are kinda weak, but that's it.
First time post matrix spoilers
I'm calling it now, there's like... a double simulation. Earth did not get blowed up. SR and Red Faction exist in the same universe, right? Earth was still a thing in RF.
Also, there's something heartwarming and romantic about clearing out a flashpoint using nothing but super beatdowns while blaring that Aerosmith Armageddon song.
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.

Similar point storywise (got distracted by cluster collecting and hacking businesses):
They either have a double simulation going on or the Boss will do a Superman the Movie bit and do some time traveling

I do agree with Idolninja that it's a huge bummer you can't fire your weapons mid-jump.
Can you not do melee attacks with equipped weapons anymore? Super kicking people in the nuts to send them flying is hilarious but I want to do melee stuff with guns as well.

Push in the right-stick I think? Or F on a keyboard
Yeah, pressing F on keyboard is the "testicular manslaughter" button, but I always end up just super kicking them into the air. Although I think I did something with my pistol among some chaotic moments. Perhaps it depends on what angle you approach people, like attacking their backs or side, gotta experiment more.
Also, during the beginning intro mission where you fight terrorists, if you get close and try to nut punch terrorists, you instead do some crazy knife attack on them like when you had to silently knife kill someone in the beginning.

My asskicking French-accented Madame President says you take that back! You take that back right now!

I love the female voices.
Civics is not a consumer product that you can ignore because you don’t like the options presented.

lie to me if you have to
Keith David will romance you.
President North.
It's basically Saints Row with Deadpool as a guest star.
Technically it says "Press X to romance the Vice President"

Is it wonderful?
I'm taking organic chemistry this semester and I am literally afraid to load up this game. Maybe winter break...
It is
Pretty great
No, that's pretty much it.
Steam Support is the worst. Seriously, the worst
Pierce and Shaundi had great Loyalty missions, but I liked Matt's the best so far.

Half the fun of games like this for me are collecting and customizing cars. Now there's just no reason to. :P

Loved all the visual references and then I hit up Friendly Fire and took a look all those weapon customization options...
Shiny.
EDIT: Best part though, was the ending of the first act.
Cause just after the climax was that perfect little *blee-boop*

Three started awesome but kinda lost steam as it went along, which was pretty disappointing for me compared to the previous two games.
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat
I expected SR4 to be over the top. I underestimated exactly how much over the top.

Keith David never wants to fuck, though... does he not like French women?
Steam Support is the worst. Seriously, the worst
Oh, maybe that's it. It doesn't seem like they're "BioWare" romances, though. All I ever get with Kinzie is
And then Kinzie punches Boss in the face and they fuck.
My pump-action shotty (Blunderbuss!!!!) is incredible. I can shoot vehicles with it and they go flying...
My asskicking French-accented Madame President says you take that back! You take that back right now!
Still picked the French voice anyways, though :P
(I guess these are spoilers, if I'm correct. If not, probably worth a good laugh.)
Kenzie programmed the whole simulation thing and the aliens aren't actually real.
My god.
It's perfect.
I love the female voices.
