4 hours of sleep until cat decided it was time to get up, so back to playing.
5 hours in now, and only real complaint i have is that driving is not that good (and i can't shoot while driving, boo).
And that Braddock recruitment mission bugged at the final part and i had to do it over (for some reason it failed to recognice my input in one of the hackings so time ran out).
AoM is fantastic! Super happy with how it turned out. I was expecting the offspring of Saints Row and Overwatch, and that's what I got. The negative reviews must've been playing the PC version, or are just joyless sadsacks. There's no excuse for the poor PC port, and hopefully it gets sorted out, but the game overall is a blast. The game is genuinely funny too, so I dunno where the complaints about the humor are coming from. Other than Polygon being a generally terrible website that is.
Driving could be a bit better, but that's pretty much my only gripe. Haven't unlocked Daisy yet, but she has butted in on Coms during a few missions and I'm in love. Can't wait to unlock her! Braddock is my current favorite, because her stuff is super OP.
Man, I wish I could get out of work tomorrow... gonna be a long day

Speaking of OP, what difficulty is everyone playing on? I basically maxed the difficulty as high as I could from the word go and have only had slight issues with some spunginess and dealing with higher alert levels where enemies start spawning in nonstop.
playing on recommended.
Did a mission couple levels higher than recommended, but did not like the time to kill.
Might max out difficulty when i hit level 20 on agents, or might not.

I'm at the default, which seems to have some degree of autoadjusting, it was at 2 during the start and seems to have creeped up to 4.
It was that somehow, from within the derelict-horror, they had learned a way to see inside an ugly, broken thing... And take away its pain.

Yeah, it's really good. I will agree with the reviews on the humour tho; it's just shy of being funny for me. Some of the lines get a chuckle but most of it is just really uninspired. Hollywood's "Nailed it!" was pretty good tho.
I'm REALLY glad they got rid of the jumping stuff from 3 and 4. I ended up not liking that at all. I adore the various triple jumps tho.
Also, is it just me or did Hollywood's Mayhem ability not work in the tutorial? I think his explosions are caused by missiles dropping and since you;re inside they didn;t work. Once I was outside I was surprised by all the booming.
I think that's just the game's technical hiccups. I ran into a few minor things yesterday with the game that wern't awful, just annoying. Hollywood's ult worked fine for me indoors but I had stuff like my car not changing to the paintjob I selected, the purple glowy boost effect not triggering, losing all audio except for car sound, and the game got stuck on one of those "the more you know" loading screens.
That seems like a lot of problems, but they are pretty minor. The paintjob thing resolved itself, the audio's only dropped a couple times but fixed itself as soon as I got out of the car, and all I had to do was reload the game when it locked on the loading screen. Started me in the ark with no progress lost. I'm sure there will be a patch at some point.
I'm not a fan of there being only the one save file though =/

So I played a bit last night, started building my team.
Hate Braddock, her bullets seem weak.
Hate Olag...I mean Yeti because he doesn't do much dmg.
Gat is a must, he's super powerful mid range.
Rama is AWESOME single target long range boss killer.
I have the big guy you start with...tanker? Tanerus? I don't remember but him, because sometimes you just gotta let the other 2 heal and let him run for cover with massive hp and shields.
I unlocked Kingpin and just...no.
I'm looking forward to the others. Loving the Vehicle AI btw. He cracks me up. Also new favorite phrase... INSTA-BLAM. As in, i'ma go post this shit on Insta-blam.
I like Yeti quite a bit but I can't aim for shit and I don't need to with him.
Super agree, Rama is awesome.
Also, there are WAY too many VAs in this doing bad accents. For crying out loud, just hire people who actually have those accents. It's not hard to do.
Braddock is the best right now, IMO. Fine aim head shots kill just about anything in one burst. I have her special ammo as cluster rockets which is great on big groups, and her ult is incredible. Rama is boss too! Pierce is good if you're using hit and run tactics. His dash has a super low cool down, so just keep moving and dashing around.
Hardtack is the most useless for me, other than soaking up damage while others heal. I got a gadget for his harpoon that makes the enemy teleport backwards and then explode. That might be useful.
Edit: Yeti's damage comes from melee hits with his gun frozen over. Frozen enemies take more damage from melee, and when his gun is frozen over, his melee does mega damage. I was hitting mooks for over 3K damage.

Running Gat, Oleg, Pierce atm, all just hit level 20.
Gat: decent at mid range if you have some cover and/or not swarmed with long range enemies or bosses (melee are easy in any numbers), but goes down very fast if you have no cover and need to deal with large numbers of basic enemies shooting from distance, basic weapon is good, special is unimpressive, but Mayhem is balls out awesome.
Oleg: low dps, surprisingly fragile (low shields), but the slow/freeze from his beam is pretty good, and he can wreck bosses with shields, low range but ok weapon, unimpressive special, almost never bother with mayhem.
Pierce: is it just me or is Pierce almost OP? high dps, decent range, high durability (mostly thanks to mobility allowing for dps while shields regen). good basic weapon (SMG), good special (if it hits), ok mayhem.
In general, gameplay is good, main problem is traversing the city which can be a pain because running is slow, and driving can be a hasle, having to climb to high buildings is also an issue sometimes.
Combat is good, so far i like the characters, and while loading screens between city and ark suck (can't alt tab for some reason), i do like the dialogue snippets that appear in them, and i love the art style in this, somewhat cartoony, but in a good way.
Hardtack that's the name I couldn't remember. But honestly he's very good at soaking up damage while the others heal. I'm looking for a really good short range guy besides him and Olag...I mean Yeti. I can't wait to play more.
Anyone else just leveling squad abilities for the first 10 levels? I just can't see buffing one person over buffing everyone....maybe I need to re-examine those self buff upgrades?

Definitely. All the points go into the squad buffs first. Some of the self buffs are nice but I'm sure I'll get to them later.
Fortune is really good short range. Also, if you fully upgrade her cores her ultimatemayhem :P is just ridiculous as it constantly stuns enemies all the while your weapon is in overcharge mode. Plus I take the gadget that makes her crits do 50% more damage and just watch as things melt.
some squad buffs aren't that important.
extra xp, money, scrap, not important compared to combat buffs.
Meh. I've been playing on the hardest difficulty available to me the entire time (10 at the moment) and I've never felt unable to take on a mission because I either haven't invested enough points into combat team buffs or personal buffs, but YMMV.
I've had a few "switch to character, die instantly" moments.
Will probably drop Oleg and Pierce for some other characters, Daisy to replace Oleg probably, not sure who to take Pierce's place Oni or Joule maybe.
Are Oleg and Pierce actually in the game, are is it just a side-wink to the audience?
I don't remember if they say his real name, but Yeti is Oleg. Pierce goes by Kingpin, but people call him Pierce sometimes. In the AoM universe
Pierce is the leader of the Vice Kings in Stilwater, and forms an alliance with the Los Carnales and Rollerz. Once Legion tries to attack Stilwater, Pierce and the gangs defend the city which impresses Persephone and gets Pierce recruited to the agents
Also same voice actors. For Pierce anyways, I'm relatively certain it's the same actor for Yeti too.

A thing I have been noticing is that the game does not seem to do a very good job of going HEY YOU ARE TAKING DAMAGE MAYBE STOP DOING THAT. Also some things seem like they nuke through your health super duper fast. Hard to say how much is insufficient feedback on taking hits and how much is things being generally able to chunk you, but I have encountered plenty of instances where I'm trucking along shooting dudes and suddenly 'oh hey I'm at a sliver of life I'd better swap' and/or getting the auto tag-out from getting knocked to zero.

Unlocked Daisy and she's as awesome as I was hoping. Hold down the right trigger to mow enemies down, use her special to switch from shooting to steam-rolling, and then pop her ult when big groups/elites show up. Aaaand she's a great tank. Also she's a sexy roller derby gal, which is like... tailor made to appeal to ol' Skullnumbers.
Oni is also amazingly fun and strong. His special is powerful as fuck.
Couple more Saints Row things that popped up
Yakuza are running Loa Dust through Seoul.
Also, I got a loading screen tip from Pierce that did the whole "it's not THE Los Carnales!" thing
This game is so great!

This is my experience as well.
Especially dangerous can be using specials that root you in place which can lead you to taking ton of damage. and dying because you can't skip or cancel animations.
Another major headache is snipers, who can shoot you from so far you can't even see them, and take way more time to kill than they should unless you have a long range shield breaker.

30 minutes to get off work and be home for game time!!!
It was one of the last bits of voice work Rowdy Roddy did before he died.
Nah, Zefiro can like the movie if they want. They're not wrong to; a movie doesn't have to be well made to be enjoyable.
In any case, I freaking love this game. It's a dang blast. Much much better than the reviews made me think it was going to be.
Don't make me post the fight scene...
>implying They Live isn't a well made movie
RIP Roddy, he was scheduled to be at a local theater for a screening of the movie, but he passed a few months before, wish I could have met him.
I loved the reunion fight with him and Keith David in SR4, I wonder if they got to do the VA work together
