I'm starting to think that this will end up being one of those "good, but dammit, with minor tweaks it could have been a brilliant" games.
Instead of huge number of difficulties, i think they should have given use individual sliders for stuff like enemy numbers, enemy health, enemy damage, AI, and so on.
I'm playing at rank 8 (i think, might be 10), and while i love the enemy using tactics and cover, the basic mooks take 2 to 3 shotgun blasts to kill (unless i crit), and the amount of damage enemies dish out is pretty annoying.
Love the idea of having to retake outposts and constantly spawning encounters, one of major flaws in SR 2 to 4 was that ibce you emptied the map, that was it.
But i do wish i did not have to go retake those outposts every 15 minutes.
A thing I have been noticing is that the game does not seem to do a very good job of going HEY YOU ARE TAKING DAMAGE MAYBE STOP DOING THAT. Also some things seem like they nuke through your health super duper fast. Hard to say how much is insufficient feedback on taking hits and how much is things being generally able to chunk you, but I have encountered plenty of instances where I'm trucking along shooting dudes and suddenly 'oh hey I'm at a sliver of life I'd better swap' and/or getting the auto tag-out from getting knocked to zero.
This is my experience as well.
Especially dangerous can be using specials that root you in place which can lead you to taking ton of damage. and dying because you can't skip or cancel animations.
Another major headache is snipers, who can shoot you from so far you can't even see them, and take way more time to kill than they should unless you have a long range shield breaker.
Also agree, I can never tell when I'm taking damage.
Snipers are easy to notice because they do those big swirly red lines around you 5 secs before they shoot. Once you see that, just be running for a bit and they're no problem. But yeah, they're pointless to go after.
My major bitch right now is Legion Target Cars. Nobody does enough damage to blow them up in time and chasing them is pointless because none of the cars actually do damage. The only way to get them right now is to hope they get hung up on the landscape.
I was worried at the amount of complaints I read about the open world gameplay but i'm having a ball just digging around for treasure chests and crystals. Seoul is really pretty.
edit: I just found out treasure chests placement and contents are random! So you can constantly find them!
So, there's 14 agents if you include Gat and whoever that one is? I'm at 11/12 agents unlocked, and if that last spot stays blacked out because I didn't preorder somewhere specific, I'm going to be pretty unhappy...
All I got from Amazon was an additional 3 legal action pending skins. Locking characters away with retail specific preorders is some top tier greedy publisher bullshit. Especially in a game where the main draw is the characters.
In cooler news, there's a free skin pack on PSN for Hollywood, Fortune and Hardtack. The one for Fortune is awesome. Turns her into a steampunk pirate.

Not necessarily.
If the sniper is behind the camera, the laser may become visible only after it's too late to run, and at times you have no option to run (taking back relics vending machines, taking out golems, etc...).
Game has issues, but so far they are pretty minor.
Surprisingly, the difficulty levels are not such an issue in lairs.
At rank 10, the enemies are though, but because they come in limited numbers, and usually in places with cover and corners, they are possible to manage.
Though the turrets and lightning traps can go fuck themselves.

but the laser starts out as a cone swirling around you so at some point it will be visible. so even if its behind you you should still have a chance to see it (although, like you say, there's certainly a perfect spot where you'll have a VERY small opportunity and being busy doing other fights certainly won;t help).
at first i was getting wasted by the snipers too but once i figured out what was up and started being mindful of the red lines it turned into a cakewalk.

I don't think any snipers have actually killed me.
Constantly inconvenienced sure, but not actually killed, except in combination of dozen other mobs on me at the same time.
I'm playing on PC, granted I have a monster PC rig so I may be an exception, but I haven't had any issues what-so-ever. If you consider the past games on PC as an example, they do get patched pretty quickly by the developer, so even if there are a few problems the bulk of the game is playable, and the few quirks will be fixed SOONER rather than later.
I unlocked 2 more guys this morning before work, I got Oni, who is bad ass with his special. And I don't remember her name but the Turret chick who is also bad ass...
Joule is rad, pretty much everybody is rad! I like how she strikes model poses with her jumps. Hardtack is kinda meh, but he's still ok. Once I max out Daisy, I'm gonna kick Hardtack off the squad, and get to work on Oni. Daisy will serve as backup for when Oni needs to heal, and in the unlikely event she needs to rest up, Hollywood will take over.
20 is max level, but I guess you can paragon an agent up to 40 by using power core thingies?
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.
I play weird. I would prefer that the game wasn't squad based, and played more like the special episodes with just one character at a time. I don't like that a character I'm not using is leveling up because I wanna do it myself, dangit... So I leave the two characters I'm least interested in (Hardtack and Hollywood) in the squad, and the third character is the one I'm focused on leveling up.
I think I may leave Hardtack in there, and swap out Hollywood once Daisy hits 20. He may be boring, but Hardtack sure can soak up the damage.
Edit: I like Fortune, but I feel like her damage output is too low for how squishy she is. Admittedly I haven't used he too much. She was swapped out as soon as Rama was available.
Skull2185 on

Fortune really benefits from certain gadgets for her and fully upgrading her cores. I'm currently using the special gadget that tosses a grenade that gives stacks of fortify, the weapon gadget that gives bonus crit damage, and the passive gadget that stacks vulnerability on targets that you dash near.
Joule that's her name. I can see her being really fun to just turret out and hide and heal. She might be my hardtack replacement if daisy ends up being squishy...
Daisy is definitely not squishy. She's a great Tank.
Range is a slight issue for her, I think. I usually charge into crowds with her anyway so it's all good. Plus I have her passive(I think?) that gives her fortify when you go into fine aim.

Also, I kinda feel like Gremlin tech is a little useless. I made 12 gutterball guns when I started the game, and I still have 9 left. I just forget to use them... If AoM 2 gets made I hope they do away with that and just give each agent two unique special abilities and their ult.

I've been pleasantly surprised at how much fun I'm having in AoM, although I lament the fact there are no dildo bats or Jane Austin. Just unlocked Rama and I love all the references to the Ramayana and Baghivad Gita in her codex entries and comments.
And Friday makes me feel like when you used to climb the rope in gym class
No matter where you go...there you are. ~ Buckaroo Banzai
I've only been able to dabble a bit, but I've had a lot of fun with the combat so far, and the look of the game and the different characters are great. The story and writing is forgettable to bad, but this is the kind of game I will play to chill out and listen to podcasts, so that's not really a negative for me.
The framerate feels kind of bad on PS4 at times, especially when driving, and I have seen a few glitches that made me feel like I was lagging in an online game, but it's fun enough for me to look past that. I wonder how much better it runs on a Pro system... no shut up, really don't want to start considering that...
Yea crafting consumables in any games feels....wrong. IMO of course. I'd like to have seen the ability to actually upgrade each weapon with unique fire modes from the gremlin tech, but make it more permanent with a longer re-charge. I don't know, none of them seem all that useful or even fun. Most of what I've seen are just temp buffs/debuffs.
My go to group now is Daisy, Gat, Joule.
And it seems that Gat is the weakest link in that group. Or was, until i got legion tech that makes the shots from his shotgun explode.
Daisy is though, has decent dps, takes down shields, and has amazing range.
Joule is fragile on her own, but turret in tank mode makes her almost immortal, her dps is low, but she takes down shields and is a master hacker (that's 2 needed specialisation for any well rounded team) and her mayhem is awesome.
Gat is low range (medium while aiming, but that slows him down and gets him shot), not all that though, but punches through armor and does monster damage if/when he manages to get close up headshots.
I am very tempted to pick this up, but I only have access to a PC and I've heard some horror stories...
... I guess Steam refunds make it less risky though right?
The base game is good, with some minor quibles that we have stated in the last few pages.
Wether it's a good buy depends largely on if you like the playstyle (watch some youtube let's plays for that), and how long a game you want.
I've played 21 hours, i'm over halfway through the main story, and i have spent lot of time just running around the city shooting at random enemies.
Though the game has unending amount of generic content, lairs (dungeons), minor targets in the city map, taking doomsday weapons and outposts, so if simply going out and shooting at enemies while increasing difficulty as you get better at it sounds fun, it has plenty of fun to be had.
wow i take it all back. hardtack may be a slog to run around Seoul in general with but take him into a Legion base and he turns into a god. he's completely unkillable to regular mooks and only really gets a challenge from bosses.
and of course explosion chains which REALLY freaking suck
Never played a Saints Row game and hadn't heard of this until the reviews started hitting. It sounded like something I'd dig so I just picked up a copy. The store threw in the preorder figure because apparently they only got one preorder. Not sure if poorly marketed/nobody cares game or important lesson for major retailer about consumer interest in preordering.

It was the first one. The game was marketed REALLY badly.
its killing me that the 3 characters I like the most all share traits, can't play Daisy/Joule/Rama as a team as you really miss the armor breaker on higher difficulties.
Rama is absolutely my go-to character, once she has her cores and some Gremlin-tech she just ruins LEGION.... her only real downside is her abysmal shield strength
I've been playing with Oni, Rama, <ninja who's name i can't spell if my life dependent on it> for a bit, just for an all stealth team.
Pretty fun, but no master hacker so not viable team in some situations.
Can't really get a handle on Rama though, she's just so fragile, and i can't get into the charge aim shoot gameplay.
Oni is pretty awesome though, and the ninja goes through standard enemies like plasmatorch through butter.

Rama has a core upgrade that makes her non-charge shots do damage over time, it can do a fair bit of damage while not leaving you vulnerable like the charge does.
The Core that makes her stealth poison those around her is great too.

Got both of those upgrades, i just don't find the dots to be all that great, take too long while i'm being shot.
Might just be a matter of learning how to play.
Or getting an utterly overpowered legion tech, which is what transformed Gat from mostly decent character to an utter powerhouse.

I don't know if Deep Silver had much confidence in AoM, tbh. It wasn't marketed very well at all. I see a lot of people thinking it's an Overwatch clone... I dunno, I love it and have it sitting as my GOTY right now but I feel like it's going to end up not selling well enough and DS will kill off the franchise before it even starts
At the very least, I hope we see more hero shooter games that aren't just online only with toxic communities. Ideally it's in the form of AoM sequels, because with some tweaks, this solid 8/10 game could easily be a perfect 10/10.

Love the cast mostly so far. Even if I don't like their combat I love their design or shtick....Until I meet Red Card. This guy is fucking useless. I hate him so much it hurts. He reminds me of every bully that I ever grew up hating and the rage is real. Fuck that guy right in his FUTBALL luving ass..

Squad bonuses are handy and my fave combo so far is Braddock/Fortune/Hama with Oni/Kingpin/Hollywood jumping in between mix and match.
I can't get on with hardtack for some reason but maybe I haven't spent enough time with him.
