You know, catching up on the steam thread might be a bad thing, since I read about Crusader Kingdoms II, and after looking into it, it looks like something up my alley. BUT IT'S NOT ON SALE ANYMORE!
First attempt back after that break to make the video did...not go well, at all. I carefully moved people into full cover and had multiple overwatches running before I saw any aliens at all, so far so good. First aliens sighted, everyone misses entirely. First alien turn where I can see any actions, they return fire and take out one of my operatives. No flanking or anything, just a solid 5 damage hit while they were in full cover. Not the best start, but recoverable, right?
Well then the nearest operative to that death enters panic state and opens fire on a friendly, causing another death. I'm now 2/4 down before I have even wounded a single alien. Another turn or two and I end up 3/4 down, having only wounded a single alien for 2 points. In the end that last operative finished the wounded alien and managed to kill one more before dying.
Finally, and after almost an hour of attempts...
I would like to point out just how shitty that one kill actually was though.
Luckily after the story above I started recording each attempt, so I can just show you all what happened.
Twice today (and in total) I have taken down the Rebel Flagship in FTL.
First time was with the starter ship, had that sucka loaded to the gills with missiles and lasers, used a Repair Arm and a Recovery Arm, net loss of 5% scrap but I repaired my hull at nearly every jump.
Second time was with the Federation Cruiser, ion weapons were the Order of the Day along with a Hull Bomb that wrecked face. It was really weird; I didn't pick up a single missile weapon, nor did I even see one for sale at any store ... except the sector before the The Last Stand where I got one for doing some quest.
Oh, and if you have the option to give an Engi ship 2 Fuel, 2 Missiles and 40 Scrap ... fucking do it. I've had it happen twice today and both times I got the Engi passive-regeneration-augment and it has been amazing when repelling boarders.
Just remember to keep at least one unit of power in your Medbay.

Generally if they ask you do to something, do it! Unless it's like, give up your crew to slavers as toll. Sometimes it's a quest marker.
I was so pissed when I finally got the quest to unlock a ship...and the marker was waaaaaaaaay back at the start of the sector in rebel territory.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

Breach bombs are what you always wanna buy if you wanna get to the last sector.
Stealth is what you need to survive the flagship.
And blast doors and proper oxygen deprevation tactics.

the rebel flag ship is hard, but i've found that cloaking, teleporter, and typically missiles are all you really need. or a bunch of burst fire lasers.
start off by dodging their volleys with your cloaking. teleport crew members into the weapon areas, kill the crew manning the gun, destroy the gun, teleport back. do this for all of the guns, and then it's basically harmless. then enough hull damage and onto the next stage, repeat until you win.
Datamining is hardly the equivalent of shitty cellphone shots of employee computers.
That's just getting at information that is already there. Valve is publicly releasing the files to datamine in the first place, if there was anything they actually wanted to hide they shouldn't have put them in the files. Blizzard learned that lesson long ago thanks to sites like mmo-champ.
And while it has no relevance on the dickery of the move, part of me is extra upset that the guy did it for L4D3, a game that was probably going to come out anyway. What a waste of any goodwill Valve will ever have for you for all of time.

And for Source Engine 2, a thing that was already confirmed

Blast doors and the opening thereof is one of my favorite tactics in the last few sectors.
Was that a knock at the door? Tell them to come back later, I'm doing the dishes.
Point of note:
Should you find yourself with two mantis crewman and a Crew Teleporter at the early stages of the game, you will find yourself using the Port-and-Murder-Everyone Tactic made famous by such notable commanders as George Armstrong Custer and Erwin Rommel. The bounties are substantially larger than normal, especially fuel, which negates much of the buying of said consumable at various vendors, netting you even more of the luscious Spare Parts to pimp your ride.
Do not get fucking greedy and try to take over every last ship; some of them are randomly impossible to do.

4-pack of Sonic &c. Transformed for $14.99, which works out to $3.75 apiece
holy shit
not going great.
I took a break from my ceaseless parade of failure and tossed this together because it seemed appropriate.

do not kill the entire ship's crew.
just don't.
Cyborg Matt, a big member of the Dota community currently on a Valve tour, just uploaded this picture
Apparently a Valve employee left their computer on while he was there
FTL has become less about beating it, for me, and more about let's see how interesting my death will be this time
Also stupid
I'd be a little surprised if they didn't sign an NDA or something to have the tour in the first place
But, regardless, don't shit on the floor of the home you're invited to as a guest
What a dick
Considering they'd probably not be showing people anything new except maybe Dota 2 heroes in progress I doubt they'd make them sign an NDA
And this doesn't excuse him but CyborgMatt's whole thing is that he datamines every dota 2 patch to see what content they've hidden inside it

p.s. Mister Spacebar is your friend.
Well keep in mind L4D2 itself was released exactly one year after the original Left 4 dead
This is actually a very long wait for series, given that
I want it just for the inevitable sequel.
keep in mind this is valve we're talking about, and releases can take quite a while (although L4D2 was strangely fast for them)
and also we don't know how many people are working on it
