The perfect PC controller already exists in the 360 controller
Because they don't make any money on it and MS isn't going to make them forever?
Also, having a direct competitor making a critical piece of your platform is problematic. Ask Apple how they feel about having to buy their chips and storage from Samsung sometime.

Software was () on monday, today was [ () ] which was the box, friday is "() + ()" which could be dual analog sticks or goggles or a game or some kinda fancy multiplayer / networking junk (probably not the last one but that was my first theory so I'm leaving it in there).

Well they are making the One controllers which are essentially the same but ok let me rephrase
Well, there might be some issues getting the 360 controller to work properly with their Linux distro.
also they would be the laughingstock of the industry if they went to all this trouble to create a proprietary console and then told their customers "go buy the 360 controller it's better than anything we could come up with"
Gamecube controller is the most comfortable one to hold I've ever used but functionally it was awful

Actually the 360 controller works natively in most modern Linux distros, at least I know the wired one does. But yes, tying themselves to MS for an input device when the rest is designed to get away from MS is not wise.

Also, aside from just being 100% expected, this isn't a very good announcement. It's basically an announcement for a beta, and verifying that the idea of a steambox exists. No specs at all seems like not the best idea necessarily. Even just a price point for the low end and the high end would've been something for people to grab on to.

I had a hell of a time trying to get my wireless to work on Ubuntu. It's one of the few times when I've given up getting something to work on Linux. (Looking back I probably should have just bought a wired controller.)
Friday is Source 2 because there are TWO circles IT ALL MAKES SENSE.
Source 2 makes a lot of sense as well, actually. I think only announcing Source 2 would be a huge mistake though. They need to bring a game with it. HL3 would generate the most hype, though.
I hope there is a Valve branded reference device, like Google's Nexus approach, and it's not a whole bunch of Xi3 third party devices
because whooooooo caaaaaares about that shit
I'd bet that there will be a Valve-branded model for the streaming-focused one (maybe ARM based? Linux handles that platform really well thanks to all the mobile work from Android), but they might not do anything besides a blueprint for the higher-end options.

I guess "( ) + ( )" can sorta be a controller if you squint a bit.
Hmm yes agreed
With badges.
Steam
so [ 0 + 0 ] would be missing piece, plus it looks like duel analog sticks
Maybe. Could also be a companion app or something designed to interface with the software, like a controller.

Prime your genitalia, because it's the Oculus Rift.
The hardware would be the [ ] part, not the software, which is what the O would be, given the first announcement

I can't make sense of these glyphs:
3===D ~~~ (o Y o)
what could it mean
Rolo I think you might be on the wrong page
but uh
you should give me a link to it just in case, I'll verify it for you

Why would anyone buy a Valve controller

my dream? gamecube controller 2.0
If it's good, why wouldn't they?
you heard it here

Solid enough dpads and the eight notch analog gate so you can feel the eight triggers
Non of that rounded xbox shit around the analog
Console in question:
Comfortable if you have tiny baby hands.
or AMD, bringing some of that APU stuff to bear, but I'd bet they wouldn't want to jeopardize their sweet sweet console deals

Also the analog stick just had the right amount of resistance
