Someone pointed out in the Western Animation thread at the Debate and/or Discussion board that they wanted to make it into a two-parter, but couldn't due to contractual obligations.
Essentially they only allowed for certain amount of half-hour episodes and the last of them were used to make the season finale.
In other words, despite it being rushed. If you thought this episode was great, can you imagine how big the season finale must be!?

I loved how she was willing to take all this ridiculous shit in stride
Also: now that we know that hambo's sentimental value lets it be used for time travel, I wonder if that's what the sky witch also wanted it for
Yeah, it's kinda crazy how quickly she took charge, and I loved it.
I'm totally cool with it being left hanging, because now I'm all wondering when we're gonna see Betty again, and where that's gonna lead.
Also, the ending with her sadly watching Simon having reverted back to Ice King was really touching, yet hopeful at the same time.
God, I love this show.
We can hope that they'll make another Betty episode though. Not officially a part 2, but enough of a sequel to let us know how stuff worked out for her.
Gonna be hella depressed if she just disappears without a trace forever. Depressed enough that I actually typed the word "hella". Ugh, I did it again. I feel so unclean.
i don't mind that the episode ended where it did because obviously they can always come back to betty and i'm sure they will
i wish it had been a 2-parter just in so far as how fast everything moved. it would've been nice to get to spend a little more time with the character and her and simon's relationship
Heh, had this draft saved since the Flame Princess episode and now it's relevant again.
I was getting really frustrated with how dumb he was acting all episode and had to remind myself that's he's just a young teen having his first real interaction with his ex-girlfriend he's totally not over and also he's having to figure out all this crap with exactly zero positive role models to guide him. Considering all that, he's doing alright.
So yeah, that's pretty much it, I think--he's the only human in existence and he's at that point in life where you gotta start figuring life out. He's got a lot of emotions he doesn't know how to deal with (particularly after getting dumped) and so yeah, bit of a dingus. I didn't think he seemed bad in this episode though. Granted he wasn't in this episode much.
He's kinda going back to Princess Bubblegum, in ways, saying that he is a knight, look at his qualities, his loyalty and such. Finn is trying to validate himself, and PB has never really told him "No. I don't like you that way." Even when Finn was dating Flame Princess, I believe that PB *was* jealous. She had carte blanche access to a person that got stuff done, and never knew what she had until he didn't show up at the candy kingdom every day. Even though she had 'altruistic motives' about Flame Princess going supernova with her emotions, PB said that Finn was *her* knight.
The only girl that Finn is cool with at this point is Marceline. She specifically told him she only liked Finn as a friend. There is other stuff like him still having his heart set on PB, but Finn and Marceline know where their relationship is.
The grass sword is not helping matters either. I mean look at it. Its a wolverine claw, the thing that every kid that ever read a marvel comic wanted. Finn thinks he can do anything with that sword, and that's not helping him when he shows up with all that bravura/dingus nonsense. When he helped Flame Princess regain her throne, he did some rather stupid stuff. He was showing off to Flame Princess instead of knuckling down and getting the job done like he has with fighting the Lich, Hunson Abadeer, rescuing princesses from the Ice King for the umpteenth time, and the myriad other creatures of Ooo.
Isn't Susan Strong also a human? I kinda feel like it was significant that she put Finn's hand under her hood. I feel like she was showing Finn that she didn't have gills which is why he was so surprised.
You're really missing out, @wyborn there have been some fantastic episodes since then.
episodes about the lemongrabs... Lemonhope episodes might be biggies because of all that.
a couple episodes about Simon (ice king) and marcelene are always heavy hitters
I haven't busted-open my Season 3 discs yet but I am hoping that the commentary isn't as awful as last time now that they've seen how they had to cut half of it out. I hope one day they'll release the unedited audio tracks from the previous seasons.
I get less and less interested in the Lemongrab and Simon episodes the more of them I see. More adventure in my Adventure Time, please and thanks you.
While I like the adventures, I really like the backstory episodes and ones that evoke emotion the best. I love that episode where they have to sing/play a song to get through that door and they have to be honest about their feelings. There's another episode where a flame hound pup and some snow creature are friends that I really like. Stuff like that really differentiates it for me.

Both of those are great episodes! Two of my favourites! The fact that they don't include Simon or the Lemongrabs definitely contribute to that shit.
The problem with Simon is that they've thrown all subtlety about his backstory out the window. Ice King isn't funny or entertaining anymore, he's at best a parody of mental illness and at worst actually makes me feel nauseous. The Lemongrabs have crossed the line from slightly goofy/endearing/kind of a weird couple with brain problems to an absolutely horrible distortion that again, is either trying to make comedy of mental illness or is straight up trying to simply horrify me, and either way it makes me unhappy.

Unless it was and I missed the second half due to it being butted up alongside Red Throne, due to watching via iTunes.

Honestly, the ending gave me a huge feeling of hope.
Betty is clearly a really bright gal, and I'm confident she's gonna pull off something pretty awesome next time we see her.

Betty has the potential to be a relativly normal female role model for him. I hope they play that angle.
there's the guy that invented BMO
http://www.audioentropy.com/
that guy is practically a cyborg though, betty is probably the closest 'normal' human left now
plus there's susan strong if you wanna talk humans (at least beautopia inferred that she was human or not a fish person)
That dialog occurs between my kids and I all the time...

I wonder if Betty had/has a goth chick she was really into too.
