Craft Ascended Weapons: New recipes and materials will be hidden around the world, and a new skill cap of 500 will be introduced for the Weaponsmith, Artificer and Huntsman crafting disciplines. Players crafting their way to 500 will become Grandmaster Crafters and can learn the secrets of crafting Ascended weapons. Legendary Weapon Updates: Legendary weapons will receive a stat boost, an Offensive Infusion slot to align with new Ascended weapons and additional functionality, among other things. Account-Wide Magic Find: Magic Find will be removed as an equipment stat and implemented as an account-wide bonus applied to all of a player’s characters.
When you say "some" guilds are leaving our server...
What's the implication? During last nights wuvery, it's not like we saw massive, concerted hordes of allied guilds on the field with us.
The alarmist will say its dissension and annoyance with being the best of the servers without one mega guild, but not good enough to deal with TC/JQ/bigger servers due to this. So some folks are considering leaving.
The rational will tell you its the damn loot fest. The week prior we had plenty of coverage. Clockwork drops and its a PvE zerg...... That will leave with sab and life will go on.
Also, it has been around 4 months since the last time the FA community freaked out over a guild leaving and declared the server dead. We were due.
Seriously though, old guilds will leave and new ones will grow and FA will be back to second-tier before snow is on the ground. I for one prefer things like this because it keeps things interesting and rewards those of us that stick with the server through thick and thin.
I'd like to second this. FA and NICE are my home in GW2 and I plan to stay here to the last.
So say we all!
As to Dr.Keenbean's dilemma: The reason I love this game is mainly threefold: I love the combat mechanics, it's just really really fun to me. Exploring the world is entertaining and interesting to me, even in zones I've already been through a bunch as the art style and design just appeal to me greatly. Finally I'm a big fan of the lore of guild wars itself, and really care about the world they have created. Not like in an rp sense, but enough that I bought one of the GW2 novels and give a crap about the back story of the game and such. It's an interesting fantasy universe that I've enjoyed since the release of the original.
So overall I enjoy just playing the game as a game like any other, that happens to be an mmo. I don't care about a carrot or keeping up with all the latest achievements, I just log in and have fun doing whatever I feel like at the time. IMO if that isn't enough, in any game, then the game isn't worth your time. Grinding after carrots in a game is a poor substitute for actual achievements and I'd rather do something IRL if I'm going to do that. I do like hoarding gold though...but who doesn't like money!?
**Edit for question** I've got one character slot open and I'm pondering what to use my 1 year "lvl a char to 20 instantly" scroll on. I've already got a warrior, ele, guard, and eng. I'm thinking about thief or ranger mostly. Not much of a mesmer fan, though necro could be fun. I liked war/necro in gw1 alot. So to anyone who plays those 3 classes, any thoughts would rock. Thanks!

By prox my legendary will get ascended properties and better than ascended stats.... I'm wondering if I get an infusion slot too
To the best of my knowledge (I think I saw a dev talking about it on the official forums), Ascended weapons will have both an infusion and a sigil slot. Don't quote me on that though, it may just be 2 AM talking.

Kudzu spreadsheet is all set up. Basically, each quarter counts obviously to 25% of Kudzu. Gift of Fortune is probably closer to 40% itself, but it's not really measuring effort. I spent some of the night levelling in Hunstman and did about 50 levels.

I don't think Anet's code is setup for 2 slots, otherwise they would not have made the hassle of burned in stats for ascended trinkets and not having anywhere near all the combinations possible.
I think an Anet dev event mentioned this at some point (code for multiple slots) and it might be hard to do. But then maybe they discovered they could do it easier, possibly when adding the stat swapping to the legendaries.
They should have done it like GW1 upgrades, but no, they had to reject pretty much every aspect of GW1 in making GW2.

If you don't think you'll ever use the Experience Scroll, you can always turn them into a quick Black Lion key, since characters get one at the end of the level 10 Personal Story instance.
Heck, just doing it with a fresh level 1 char only takes 20 minutes. ^^
Okay, I don't want to trivalize the hard work it takes to make an MMO, but this article seems over the top. I mean really, world we get to shape? Dynamic events aren't much different than static quests - the same cycle constantly happens, nothing really changes. Anyway, I'd have liked more context to the big number sheet at the end. Is that just % of races classes made? I mean, I'd ratehr see hours played of each race and class - that really measures the popularity of the class. And when was the 460k+ concurrency? Recently, at release? Wouldn't a better measure be something like how many players have logged in for at least an hour in the past week (or a more sophisticated breakdown)?
The best part of that is the parts that are real hard numbers like Race, profession and crafting breakdowns.
I find those numbers not to be anywhere near the same that I am compiling on guild profession breakdowns (which is normal. we usually don't match to the general numbers).
Mostly just huntin' monsters.

Those of you who have been with us from the beginning will recall that our first goal with Guild Wars 2 was to make a truly dynamic world where the actions of players change the world around them.
Nothing in the game is dynamic. All changes by the players revert to the pre-event state. Kiel is the single exception (also, total votes cast means nothing - I'm sure if the Czech's could vote more than once per citizen they would).
And I think the real mark of a success of an online world is how that world grows and evolves, and the extent to which players can take the world and make it their own.
Also, I've seen nothing to make the "world my own" - every living story has been completely linear like pretty much every other piece of MMO content.
Then they wax on about how many content updates they've had. Its impressive, but they make it sound like each is a full expansion worth of stuff.
Etc, etc.

It's still the first MMO I've ever played that's made the leveling experience actually fun, so I give it giant props for that.

This is almost certainly helped by the lack of sub fees. Honestly I think at this point the only MMOs that can get away with sub fees are WoW (because it's been around forever and has a gigantic fairly loyal playerbase) and EVE (which is its own weird thing that would be impossible to replicate and you can buy game time with in game money anyway).
That's awesome. I'm glad that the gauntlet will be a returning event because I don't think I'll be beating her this year. I keep making bad decisions in the fight and I think a huge part of it is the camera proximity enforced by the walls.

There's a few things about the fight that can make it much easier (with or without the achievement):
1) Learning the floor patterns for Shadowfall; they're always the same in Phase 1, as are the spawns of the shades. In Phase 2, they fall in an hourglass shape across two quadrants, so you should always be moving 90 degrees around the circle during phase 2 to not get hit.*
2) A ranged weapon; trying to melee Liadri is a nightmare, because she weakens and cripples, both of which hurt your ability to avoid clones and Shadowfall. Ranged weapons also make it much easier to destroy the orb when it appears (the autos tend to get 'obstructed', but aoes work fine).
3) Vigour and condition removal. Vigour makes it much easier to dodge if you get caught out and have to take a Shadowfall. Condition removal helps mitigate the loss of endurance caused by Weakness, which is actually fairly dangerous.
If you're going for the 8 lights achievement, it's also worth noting that the white vortices are nicely situated on the edge of the hourglass shapes I was talking about. So often you will stand in the safezone, luring the shadows into the vortex, then run around the remaining ones and pick up the light from the other safe zone.
*Obviously, standard geometry rules apply here: running around the outside takes longer (and messes with your camera), and running around the inside makes kiting harder; you want to be roughly in the middle.
There are a few good videos showing how to do it on YouTube etc. This is the one I used, from one of the guys on my server.
By prox my legendary will get ascended properties and better than ascended stats.... I'm wondering if I get an infusion slot too

Of course, anyone can say they're an A.Net dev, but my intuition tells me this person is actually someone from A.Net. My intuition is usually right. But hey, we'll see next week for sure, right?
One thing that really helped me with 8-orb Liadri was turning off auto-attack. I found with auto-attack on many times I'd try to pick up an orb (sometimes smashing the key) and it just wouldn't work, or picking it up would take half a second longer than normal, sometimes resulting in my death. It does make whittling down her health a little more hectic, but it's not too hard to turn it back on after you've smacked her with the orbs.
I'm more of a lurker than anything, but since my guild has all but dried up would love to join up with you fine lads and ladies. Definitely willing to do a server transfer too.

...it's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care.
So the Queen's gauntlet get together was a no show today(sunday), which is fine since I only posted it last night and changed the date/time of it 3 times .... n_n
So I'm going try again, this time before guild events Wednesday. If you want to do them make sure you have gotten back into the pavilion.
How about 5:30pm PST Wednesday August 28th. - This will be for people who want to defeat all the queen's champions in the gauntlet or get cheevos from them. It's much better attempting these with at least 4 people to help res eachother and such.
I'll be on my alt Zubat at 5:30ish spamming guild if anyone wants to come, look for me.
So this Liadri/gauntlet attempt-fest is tonight! 5:30 PST is in, like..........1.5 hours. I will be there with bells on. Bells I say!

Heck, just doing it with a fresh level 1 char only takes 20 minutes. ^^
