"That made him an extremist, not to mention a racist, and that was fine with Leng."
God, you can't make this shit up.
Well, apparently one person can.
William Dietz. Writer of horrible video game novels. I'd like to state that the first Mass Effect book (about Saren and Anderson) was at least passable, Drew Karpyshyn did a decent enough job with it. By the second one though, it had already gone off the rails. All I can remember about it is a super biotic who's also autistic (I think) and some utter berk who super subtly called the biotic's father "killer" in every sentence like it was some smart joke that nobody got. And everyone was like "huh, why does this shady fellow keep calling you killer?" and he's like "what me? I don't know shut up."
I did not finish that book.
edit: it's being reminded of just how bad this stuff can be, that makes me want to go back to some ideas I had for Mass Effect fiction and write that stuff up. I hate that it would fall under the banner of 'fan fiction' and every connotation that comes with it, but I know for a fact that it would be more accurate, interesting, and comprehensible than anything Dietz has farted out.
That quote... I... what... ...I don't know how someone wrote that, and said "Yes. This is good. This is a good sentence that will sound intelligent and well thought out."
In other news, hopped on the PC version multiplayer for a bit. After looking over my available characters to recall what I had, I remembered how much the game likes giving me Infiltrators. I have every Infiltrator but the Ghost, the one Infiltrator I used on a regular basis in the 360 version. Multiples on every other Infiltrator, and I don't play them. I have two non-human adepts, my most played class, but man, the game just keeps chucking me Infiltrators. First new pack after the first time playing in a couple months? Salarian Infiltrator.
When you have Widow X, you call me.
Actually that's the other part. I've got jack shit for snipers and shotguns, as well as attachments. I've got the Collector Sniper Rifle, but that's about it.
During ME2, Samara says that there are only three Ardat-Yakshi in existence. Her two daughters at the monastery, and Morinth.
Yet everything you find at the monastery suggests that dozens of Asari reside there.
There also they mention the monastery in ME2 (possibly before you know what an AY is). Salesman at the grocery store mentions it when talking about various condiments to a customer.
So apparently even the general public knows that there's a whole campus/compound full of these weirdly named Asari (they probably don't know the whole "sex with one will kill you" bit or specifically where it's located). Or heck maybe they just think it's the Asari equivalent of Hidden Valley.

Everybody knows there are CIA black sites, but no one really knows how many, how many are held in any particular one, or how many people staff them.
Unless you need to bust one up 'cuz the Reapers fucked that shit up and you need to clean up the mess.

Does the Justicar Code say anything about lying to protect Asari interests?
But if we take it at face value, it's possible that the existence of the ardat-yakshi monastery is known, but the number of women there is not. It's possible Samara was not aware of any of them save for her daughters, or that she was lied to by officials
But it's most likely a miswrite

Another possibility, Nearly all of the Asari who stayed there were commandos posing as AY. If someone wanted to fuck the place up and get hands on AY, it would be pretty smooth to encounter three times the resistance you expect and the end up capturing and hauling off someone of no use to you whatsoever.

chair to Creation and then suplex the Void.
My head-canon:
Most of the asari at the monastery are like Samara; they know they're genetically predisposed to produce Ardat-Yakshi, and were put into seclusion to make sure they wouldn't have any, or at least not have any where they couldn't be controlled. Samara got out of it by becoming a Justicar.

That would work except for one thing: All the banshees we see in the game? Those are former Ardat-Yakshi.

AND Asari with the carrier gene as well (hence why if you ignore the mission, Samara shows up as a Banshee on Earth).
Edit: it's also mentioned in the codex.

Maybe Samara didn't feel comfortable telling Shepard the truth about the Ardat-Yakshi and monastery and just how many there actually are, fearing perhaps a chance that Shepard might want to nuke the place because holy shit, that's a lot of dangerous crap waiting to happen.
Imagine if Cerberus had taken over the place.

Samara shows up as a banshee? Does she do it in the final defense?! :O

Supporting evidence: The traumatized Asari in the hospital mentions her friend who had a significant pause 'medical condition', and she got turned into a Banshee. Since they wouldn't have let actual Ardat-Yakshi in the military, she must have been a carrier.

I believe so. Similar to how you'll encounter Phantom-Jack and Legion at the Cerberus base if you ignored Grissom/sold it.

I didn't know about that.
Are you sure you don't mean Morinth? I know she turns up Bansheed at the end if she survived ME2.

I've never read anything about that; Afaik you can only fight Morinth as a Banshee, Jack as a Phantom and Legion as a Geth Sniper. There might be someone I'm missing, but I'm quite sure the only way to kill Samara is at the Monastery or in the Suicide mission.
Maybe most of the Asari that you see there are either support staff/guards or the remains of the commando squad.
No, I mean there is a bunch of announcements all over the place talking about regular life - announcements of student schedules and things. You wouldn't communicate with TWO students using announcements. Also, I'm pretty sure there's an audio recording somewhere of a couple of not-Samara-daughters smuggling a magazine of some sort into the monastery.
There was definitely more than two full blown AY's there. So either it's a retcon or Samara was wrong or lied.
It's not outside the realm of possibility that Samara just didn't know (at the time). The asari were very secretive of the monestary, as it was a source of shame for their society. Samara didn't become a Justicar until after Morinth escaped and started killing people, so she might not ever have been privy to the knowledge that more AY's than her prodgeny exist. He daughters couldn't tell her, because the monestary monitored all extranet calls.
If I recall correctly, Samara had never been to the monestary before and the asari gov would have no reason to tell her the truth, as Samara only became a Justicar for the sole purpose of killing Morinth.

Been looking at the N7 hoodies on the Bioware store and while they look really nice, I'm quite partial to pullerovers instead of the zipper style. Google seems inconclusive, but has anyone here found a good N7 hoodie without a zipper?

Well she did say that she knew of 3, her daughters. And it didn't seem like she visited all that often.

I can only imagine it's terrible.
"A more immersive experience and conclusion of his character"
...the hell? Wtf do they want. I thought ME3 did Thane very well indeed. I actually shed a tear.
Oh, wait. I know... they want to have sex with him in ME3
IIRC, you can have sex with him when you see him at the hospital, though I don't know how graphic it is.
But what can you add without having more voice files from the original actor?
Terrible fanwankery!
Telegraphed?! The first thing out of his mouth when you meet him is that he's dying! That shit was hand delivered.
