Also, finally got around to scratching the ME3 multiplayer itch tonight. Dusted off the disc and got prepped to bust some heads in as a Krogan (and maybe cut some fools as a Shadow, and lay down heavy fire with a Destroyer, and hate-surf, and... you get the idea).

    Servers are down :P

Apparently some people are trying to give Thane the FF7 Aeris treatment: http://thanemod.tumblr.com/about

I can only imagine it's terrible.

"A more immersive experience and conclusion of his character"

...the hell? Wtf do they want. I thought ME3 did Thane very well indeed. I actually shed a tear.

Oh, wait. I know... they want to have sex with him in ME3

IIRC, you can have sex with him when you see him at the hospital, though I don't know how graphic it is.

But what can you add without having more voice files from the original actor?

They don't add anything. They mostly take him further out of the game. Essentially, they make him "live" by not showing any of the scenes that happen relating to his death. So they put Kirrahe up against Kai Leng, they have Bailey warn you about the Cerberus occupation, while Thane (presumably) is safe in the hospital. They also remove all references to his death from the remainder of the game, and remove all his dialogue from the Citadel DLC too. He makes a brief appearance in the epilogue, though I don't know whether he has any dialogue or not.

Essentially they take a beautifully constructed story and remove half of it so that it never actually finishes.

Yeah, Thane's death was telegraphed in ME2, meaningful and touching in ME3, and I wouldn't change it for the world.

Telegraphed?! The first thing out of his mouth when you meet him is that he's dying! That shit was hand delivered.

    Telegrammed, then?

    Well.

Completely unrelated to the current discussion: I have refound my love for Mass Effect 3, specifically the multiplayer.

And specifically the Turian Soldier. I never really did much of the serious stuff, topping out at about Silver, but I must say, A Turian Soldier with a Tempest with the Heat Sink and Ammo Capacity mods and maxed RoF Marksman?

dohohohohoho. Bullet Hose Supreme. Even better if you run Armor Piercing ammo AND have someone to lower defenses on armored guys.

I disagree. In my opinion, Turian Soldier is a great class. Of course the Turian Ghost is 10x better, but that's because he isn't a great class, he's an OP class. Same for the Alliance Infiltration Unit.

Turian soldier makes any automatic weapon useable if done correctly. I used him for nearly all the SMG and AR challenges, usually with incendiary ammo. BURN IT ALL.

Just thinking; is there a crossover fanfic that has MGS4/MGR Raiden meet Kai Leng?
Because if there isn't, someone needs to write one.

If it could ape Deceptions writing 'style', that'd be a bonus. Kinda.

Nobody remembers the singer. The song remains.

Turian Soldier is even more fun when you throw on a level 3 stability modifier.

I may or may not have made Homeworld ion cannon noises when I was in that match.

Almost every class in MP is good. Usually it's just a matter of how good or whether or not you have the guns/equipment to really make a class shine. Or whether or not that class is outstripped by another more powerful, similar class.

(I hope no one takes that as an attempt to short circuit the discussion. Something I wish we did more of here is discuss various builds.)

Her kit is super basic but she brings average nuking and fantastic utility for both gun based and tech heavy teams.

Yeah she's probably the perfect example. It's also a class that I came to enjoy far more once I started making use of the Wraith. Back in the days of the Predator/Carniflex I probably would've agreed with the popular opinion of that class being underpowered. Now she's one of my favorites.

  • Albino BunnyAlbino Bunny Jackie Registered User regular
    Wraith just fits perfectly.

Ice blast, shoot, incinerate, shoot, take cover, reload and repeat until dead.

If it's not a class where I can point the cursor at an enemy and hold down the trigger until he falls over, I don't want to play it. So N7 Destroyer, Geth Juggernaut, Turian Havoc, BF3 Soldier. Yeah baby.

Well, that's all fine, but then there are imobilizing abilities so your target can't evade your lead rain, and warp explosions are always fun.

...and when you are done with that; take a folding

On an unrelated note, I found a file edit that makes your power timers work like Mass Effect 1, in that they all have seperate cooldowns.

The thing for me is that winning is it's own fun. I can't play anything less than the absolute best class I own, which is always the AIU or Ghost, because I know that whatever extra fun I'd get from playing a more balanced class (like Geth engineer, for example) would be completely pissed out the window as soon as my scrub teammates died, I was relied upon to carry a wave, and couldn't do it for whatever reason. I'd think to myself "if I was an AIU this match would have been winnable"
