1) I seem to have built up a decent chunk of cartel coins because I added a security key way back when. Any suggestions on what I should buy? I'm leaning toward the rocket boost, but other than that, I have no idea.
I figured I should finally get around to playing an Agent beyond level 10 ( I was already getting tired of the game when I gave it a shot). However, the cover system is awful. Will I ever have to use cover if I go Operative?
As an Op, you really don't need cover, especially since you're meant to be getting up close and sticking machete after machete in an enemy's torso or hanging back and dropping some heals. Now a Sniper's all about using cover as their abilities mostly require it but Snipers also get a portable cover generator much like Ops get a stealth generator, so you never have to worry about rolling into the wrong spot as long as you don't highlight an enemy first before using the cover button.

On my sniper and gunslinger, I just changed the keybind so that F, instead of being rolling to cover, is cover in place. Then I put the roll to cover keybind in a different place for the times I want to use it - if you cover behind a real object instead of your generator you get better defense out of it.
Ops do not use cover, no, but they also don't do as good dps as sniper/gunslinger. And you get used to the cover system pretty fast, if you change the keybinds like I suggested. Ops are one of the best healers in the game, and you queue FPs faster with heals than you do with dps, so there is that.
Ops are generally a lot of fun to play. I will throw out my personal opinion, having played all three healers types, that outside of healing in a group the op/scoundrel is the most fun healer to play while generally soloing and derping around so there is that.
Merc/commando and sage/sorcerer are great healers but I wouldn't want to level them as healers, whereas leveling a scoundrel/op healer is totally enjoyable.
How powerful do companions get from all the + presence on doing classes? Agent/Smuggler as one of the last classes you play seems like it would work well.
Just finished the Agent storyline a few nights ago. Act III was okay, but...
Act II, you guys. Holy shit.
Best encounter in the game right here:
I still can't believe how well it was built up, and how much emotional payoff it actually delivered.
I wish I had taken a screenshot of the Agent and Kothe looking at each other across the force field, because that's easily my favorite of many, many hard-boiled IA scenes.
I'm getting back into this after quitting about 2 months after launch and have a couple questions:

Rocket boost is basically a must. Fully upgrade them and you'll never know how you played the game without them. Seriously, theyre great. Every character you roll on that server will have them so you can be going at 110% speed at level 1 (For 12s, every 30s).
How powerful do companions get from all the + presence on doing classes? Agent/Smuggler as one of the last classes you play seems like it would work well.
It depends on how much you have, I have I think 30 companions at full rep and a human 50 which adds another 100 presence to all my characters and on my tank characters (even in dps spec) my companions do more damage than my player character.
I'd love to get Rocket Boost myself but it's a Legacy purchase rather then Account and I'd rather not waste what points I'm hording at the moment to unlock it fully on both servers I'm on.

Server-wide? I was checking it out again today and it looked like I could only unlock it for one character, which makes the price of 400 CC a little steep.

I have almost all of the +Presence unlocks. Companions are ludicrously overpowered for the first two planets but once you get off the capital world it stops being noticeable. From that level on they start getting most of their stats from their gear.
But for those first two planets it's hilarious watching them one-shot mobs left and right.
First they came for the Muslims, and we said NOT TODAY, MOTHERFUCKERS
So I've been pvping a bit on my new 55. Should I wait until the next patch hits to spend my warzone tokens? I read something about them dropping the lowest regular pvp gear when they introduce a new set? Or is that bunk?

Yes, you should definitely wait, as long as you aren't going over cap, not because they'll drop the lowest gear and make it free, but because they'll drop down the highest gear and make it the same cost as the current gear.
Before 2.0 they used to drop the low gear and make it a free set, but 2.0 changed the way pvp works and with that they got rid of the free sets.

Ah. Okay then. I suppose I'll just work on my alts in that case.
If you hit the com cap you can always buy stuff with coms and just sell them back whenever its close to the 2 hour binding thing. I do that with planetary coms all the time.

But... it still won't go over cap, will it? Are you saying if you sell it back it breaks the cap system so that you can have more than max comms?
so, how does the pricing/purchasing for hutt cartel work now? if you subscribe you get it for free, but is that permanent or does it lock you out when you unsub? And do we know how that will work for characters who level past 50?
hold your head high soldier, it ain't over yet

No. Say you have 100 coms but want to keep leveling because you're going to level soon and be able to buy a better type of mod.
You buy 3 armors for 21 coms, putting you at 79 coms. Keep playing and leveling. When the refund timer gets low, if you still haven't leveled, buy 4 new armors and then sell back the original 3 for a refund. Keep leveling. I've done this before too and it works fine. The refund timer even stops at log out and restarts upon log in, so you can theoretically keep this going across multiple play sessions.

I buy the Ancient Artifact Storage Box from the Corellia vendor since they cost 36 coms, but yeah, thats exactly what I do. I run enough flashpoints so that Im on the fleet fairly regularly, or at least its easy enough for me to get back there. Its a nice little run around the coms cap.

Reason I don't do the comms tango is I know I will forget, and then I'm sitting there with some PvP crafting mat and Purple gear I don't want ...
Game, please let me buy the gear I want, regardless of my current lvl. Plz.
Does anyone have any tips on how to get in on some more regular non-guild 16m ops?
(Other than checking gen chat on fleet.)
My current guild has a hard time getting 8m going on the few occasions when I can attend. And I have plenty of free time over during other days/hours.
just spend a few on an artifact box or whatever and sell/use whatever you get. None of the gear you buy with planetary comms costs more than like 25, so it's pretty tough to wind up in a spot where you don't have enough for the thing you want (especially if you're doing FP dailies and such as you level.)

90% of the time what you get out of an artifact box is worth less than just buying armor plates and selling them.
well you can buy whatever, the point is that it's kinda silly to do the buy/refund thing just for the sake of sitting right at the cap
I dont do it to sit at the cap, I do it so when I hit 50 I have enough coms to fully deck out my companion in Rakata level armorings/mods/enhancements. Its not like I dont also use the coms to fill in gaps in my gearing while leveling, its just I try to save a bunch for when I hit 50.

Wow, so the ending of Act 2 for Sith Inquisitor is an anti-climax that basically invalidates everything you did in Act 2.
I am not impressed.
How so? You made Thanaton lose his apprentice just like how he took your's, put the fear of God into him and tossed him against the wall like an egg. As for yourself, you stuffed four Sith-spooks in your skull just so you could overclock your Force batteries. You didn't think you'd actually get away with that sort of craziness without any tolls, did you?

Just checked Torhead again today.
Apparently the earlier stuff was just server crap, because suddenly all those missing quests and their sweet, sweet dialog tree companion affection maps are back up.
I'm starting to become very torn over the Zash-Khem affair. It's Khem's body, and after what Zash tried to do my feelings were resoundingly that I should work to get Zash out of Khem.
