I was wondering when that was going to happen.
So did anyone here ever figure out how to use the Power Bomb special moves in Super Metroid? The only clue to their existence is from watching the attract mode, you get shown that the health regen thing exists. No clues to how to really use it though. I never figured any of that stuff out. I looked up the healing thing years ago when I got into speed running but I can't remember how to do it now even, because I only needed it for one particular moment and it had to be specifically arranged in a very risky way (it can only be used when you're near death).

I use to be able to do it. Generally speaking you should never have to be in a spot where you'll need it...but it's neat to see at least once.
Samus is on the run from the Galactic Federation. There are literally a million cool stories they could make from this.
Do it, Nintendo. Do it.
Samus on the run? I think not!! as has already been suggested, Samus is on the offence against every federation outpost, gathering intel on their secret scientific research labs, hitting one after the other with GalFed on the back heel becoming more aggressive with each passing game.
Metroid meets Alien Resurrection but not terrible.
get Joss Whedon to write it, only this time don't fuck with his script! hell, it worked for Marvel.
Pretty sure Whedon had a hand in the awfulness of Alien Resurrection, regardless of script revisions. Pretty sure everyone behind the camera had a hand in the awfulness of Alien Resurrection. Nobody is walking away with a justifiable clean conscienceon that one.
yes he did, which is why i said "only this time don't fuck with his script". he wrote an early draft that i believe, barely resembles the finished product. i'm sure Joss is disappointed in how that one turned out, but ultimately it was out of his hands.

Everybody is disappointed with how that movie turned out, but this is not the Whedon thread so let's agree to disagree on this one.
Back on topic, can anyone recommend Prime Hunters? I've been playing Metroid since Super came out and have enjoyed all of them except hunters and pinball, haven't tried either of them.

I can't say anything on hunters, but I've beaten Pinball, and can safely say that one's good fun. Only 2 main tables, but there's four boss fights, lots of minigames, and decent core pinballing. Worth getting if you find it cheap.

I could see that. Maybe she discovers evidence of a space pirate plot to destroy the galactic federation from within? That would be cool. Or maybe something else entirely! Point is, Nintendo needs to get off their asses and make it happen.
Unfortunately that's not when the game actually takes place.
The um infant Metroid from 2 is rather important to MOM, so only the Ridley scene slots in as you're suggesting.
And even that doesn't fit, since Sammy's attitude towards Ridley in Metroid is, even in the more detailed Zero Mission "I want him DEAD! I want his family DEAD! I want his house burned to the GROUND! I wanna go there in the middle of the night and I wanna PISS ON HIS ASHES!"
She's past "oh no, he killed my family" and well into "he's going to pay for that."
I still need to play through Other M. Crazily, I somehow wound up with two copies.
Favorite remains Super, though I enjoyed what I played of Primes 1 and 3. FPS is a weird thing for me; I've got Trilogy, and I prefer using the Wii Remote, so I hope to get back to those someday.
Zero Mission was great, too, save for the Zero Suit part. Or that might just be my curse talking.
Played/beat the original before Super came out, and I'd love a remake of Metroid II. Fusion... blasted SA-X tends to be an occasional problem for me. Again, probably my curse.
Still want to get Pinball at some point.
Right now, I just want them to make a new one which sticks to the Super Metroid formula, but does new things with it. New planet, new creatures, new items/weapons, and you're just stuck somewhere on it and have to find a way out. And it would be nice if they moved things forward chronologically from Fusion, too, rather than getting all Zelda with it.
But okay, I stand corrected; I'd like to play through it.
It's a great game with a silly and sometimes stupid story. (I'm saying that as a guy who didn't actually mind the story)
The gameplay is pretty great though. I enjoyed it a lot even though it's nowhere near the best of the rest of the franchise. It's probably better than Metroid II and the original, but not quite as good as the rest of the series.

Yeah I thought Other M was okay, but I'd never play through it again.
I admit the exploration and shooting is neat, but the upgrading and suit functions are shotty. Why even explore for missles when I have a function that fully regenerates my missle supply in seconds?
It's just not a Metroid game. It doesn't feel or play like one, and the story doesn't even come close. But, the game it does play like (Ninja Gaiden with range weapons) isn't as bad as people make it out to be, it's just not at all what Metroid fans expect. Especially after those awesome E3 demos and trailers.

Yeah but that's the thing.
When the game has Metroid in the title, I expect a Metroid game.
Not a Ninja Gaiden with weapons and an offensive story game.

Eh, personally I found it rather mediocre as a Ninja Gaiden game. You were forced into using the kill moves if you wanted to finish anytime quickly most of the time, and the kill moves were slow and annoying. Even if I ignore the really offensive bits, it just had a soulless gameplay, totally run-by-numbers move and shoot with a dodge button as its gimmick.
Metroid Other M is a bad Metroid game, ignoring the story.
It is an absolutely abysmal Ninja Gaiden game, and I almost used abyssal because some demon vomited it up. As an action game it's so lacking it borders on parody - it does everything it can to make Samus seem like a bad-ass while incorporating systems that remove any real sense of player accomplishment in combat

I don't know man, I look at Ninja Gaiden 2 for Xbox and Other M in comparison and they're pretty similar. But I love Ninja Gaiden 2, and I'm indifferent about Other M.

The biggest difference between Ninja Gaiden and Other M is Other M has worse boob physics.
Yo I know it's trendy to shit on Team Ninja and they're a bunch of misogynist bros according to all evidence but Ninja Gaiden, Ninja Gaiden Black, and Ninja Gaiden 2 can have arguments made for them as being the best games in their genre, no matter how much one may love the works of Kamiya or Mikami
I'll talk about Ninja Gaiden Black since it was the ultimate game in that series
Ninja Gaiden was built on the idea of the escalation of game challenge meeting the escalation of player skill; every encounter can kill you, and quickly, if you are not good at controlling Ryu, but being good enough to beat a room full of white ninjas is very different from being good enough to beat a room full of full-blown cat demons. Every second you were on the edge of death, and the game was about finding or creating the moments where you coudl avoid death while driving your knife into the heart of your enemy. This is true in all parts of the game on all difficulties, becoming obfuscated to observers because the game is so frenetic.
Other M is not like that. If you can tap directions on the D-pad, you have conquered the hardest fights in the game. That Sense Dodge business ham-stringed the game from the start, and when you add that onto problems like digital movement in a game where enemies had variable movement speed, a complete lack of short-range combat options in spite of nearly all enemies being melee range (which was not true in other Metroids, take note), and a lack of real progression in terms of the feedback provided by weapon upgrades
God
I never thought I'd stumble on a perspective by which I would hate Other M more than I hate it as a Metroid game but here we are

Other M could cut the flashback to the end of Super Metroid and all of Samus's infant talk, and the plot would remain basically the same.
