The Tudors is a ten-part television series commissioned by Showtime about the early reign of Henry VIII [1]. The first two episodes are currently being made available to Direct TV basic subscribers. The series will formally debut on Showtime on April 1, 2007.

So, who's in for this series? I watched the first episode and the first thing I came away with was "hey, look at all the boobs and sex" and the second thing was that I'll give it a shot since I seem to like these sorts of premium TV shows. It didn't grab me like Rome did but at least it's a decent effort, hopefully it will go somewhere good.

    Is it the showtime answer to 'Rome' ?

    Showtime sometimes likes to keep the bewbies in the first episode or two, then drop it.. becaus everyone is only watching hoping the chicks will show again.

    Excellent way to gain viewership.

    I actually got an e-mail about this... but because I watched (and bought) Queer as Folk. With all the boobies I dunno if it's really my thing though.

    Guess they are going for the coveted rennfair lesbian demographic.

    Was it worth watching? Unfortunately, I neither have the time to watch the episodes via the internet at this moment, nor do I get Showtime.

    Yes. Plot is pretty good and the boobs are fantastic.

    I have no interest in this show. I used to watch Showtime's L Word religiously for the real life drama but since I have enough drama in my life it doesn't interest me anymore.

    99.9% of the viewership of the L word are for seeing the boobies of your fav actress.

    I *think* there is a plot or something each episode... i dunno.

    I just got episode 1 of the Tudors.. I'll give it a try. The previews I keep seeing seem to suggest that 80% of the episode dialog is the main actor shouting "I'M KING HENRY!".

    Not that its a problem for me ....

    By the end of season two, I was so used to all the hot naked women pretending to have sex that it was actually starting to bore me.

    That's when I stopped watching, because I knew something wasn't right there.

    This didn't grab me nearly as Rome or Deadwood. Tudorian? England isn't by default a part of my interests in the way Cowboys and Triarii are. I'm gonna give it a second chance next week though, as long as its after Ride.

    This show is interesting, not quite as interesting as Rome, but the boobs sound pretty nice.

    If I remember correctly, Henry XIII was an evil, evil douche and he was just going through wives to get a son. *snicker* That's a shitty reason to fuck so many ho's IMO.

    I personally am going to love this show and watch it obsessively. HBO's rome was awesome, but I love that they're actually acknowledging what the Tudor life actually was like--this is more historically correct than most people believe.

    There's also an increasing trend in this, note Scarlett Johannsen and Natalie Portman who are going to be in the film version of "The other Boleyn girl", essentially the story of Mary Boleyn, who was also the kings love.

    You know, I believe it's true, but IMO the story loses some of its romance and significance when we see Henry as just another fratboy.

    I only watched the first episode, but I found the Henry character dull. Henry wins racquetball, Henry wins tourney, Henry wins chess, Henry wins virtue of 10 women, Henry is the best!

    Buckingham is a little bit interesting, but making Henry's womanizing ways the centerpiece takes away time that could be better spent creating an awesome medieval Al Swearengen.
