Yeah the newbie games last night were fun, aside from the one where the opposite team only had two guys and we were messing around the whole time, that was less fun, but it probably made the guy playing lion on the other team feel like a golden god. He had a lot of kills.

It was the Bloodseeker that was the golden god. Lion just got the occasional finger kill.

Here's a weird question for you people who understand mechanics: how does Medallion of Courage interact with invis? Can you cast it while, e.g., under the effects of Bounty Hunter's Shadow Walk and not break the invis?
My love of Bounty Hunter is almost enough to make me play AP. Almost.
edit: hilarious idea for Bloodseeker, stay near Spirit Breaker and Rupture him every time he charges

Unless something changed since the last time I played him, MoC cancels Shadow Walk. It doesn't synergize terribly well with the SW bonus damage. But you can come out of SW for that bonus + Jinada hit, and then MoC them for the finish.

I was really thinking more about Jinada than SW.
It's weird that he's so dropped out of competitive play. He needs very few items to add a lot to a team.
I missed the newbie games last night which made me sad. If we do them again tonight I will try to hit up the thread and join.
What time were they doing them last night? The regular players I have with me are usually on by like 5-6pm EST. We can usually muster enough for a full 5v5 then.
Bounty Hunter dropped out of competitive play? From what I saw, Na'Vi at the least employed him a decent amount. Track gold is a beautiful thing.
He's definitely not as prevalent as he was before the Track "nerf" (which did not actually affect the core functionality of the hero).
I don't know why Battlefury is recommended on him. I guess because he can sort of carry? But he'll never outcarry a hard carry if they play well, and his kit is all about nuking down a priority target and maneuvering to get Jinadas on people. You're better off spending the gold on a Desolator or an S&Y.
Pubs build battlefury on any hero remotely resembling a carry because pubs are bad and Bfury helps them get shiny items faster.
You all ought to be glad. I saw a Sven rush Battlefury the other day.
6x Battlefury Kunkka is the best build, though.

deso is my favorite snce i tend to play him as the get in , gimp /blow up someone. then get out, so things like OoV or desolator work best and helps everyone

The matchmaking system sucks. I just played with 4 random pubs against a team of 5 players that had all had 30+ commendations in each category. I still rocked their faces as anti-mage (12-1 by the time the game ended), but somehow the rest of my team had fed their Luna so much that it didn't even matter.
Just needed to vent.

I come up against that a lot. My lane is smooth sailing but when you have 10+ deaths on your team by the 6 minute mark, you are going to have a bad time. Luna is a monster if she get's fed also.

There's no real way to get a perfect matchmaking system in a DotA-like game, unfortunately. Smurfs will always abound, and unlike Starcraft the complexity of finding 10 evenly-matched players ensures a bad team every once in a while.
Commendations and amount of wins don't really mean anything, especially when somebody who has played WC3 DotA for 7 years can jump into DotA2 and start off with nothing. I've seen players with hundreds of wins who were still terrible.

I've seen players with thousands of wins that are still terrible. I've had my shit worked over by an obvious smurf with 50 wins. Wins and commendations have absolutely no meaning other than "I've played X amount of time".
MM is probably struggling with the influx of new players as well.
Valve has said that early on in your career, your hidden MMR fluctuates rapidly while it tries to figure out how good you are initially. Once people have got 50 or so games under their belt it should stabilize and chill out matching newbies with (relative) veterans.

You talk clean and bomb hospitals, so I speak with the foulest mouth possible
Ya, I dunno. I have played DotA since WC3, then HoN, then Dota 2, so I feel like I've got a pretty good grasp of the game and I know every hero. I'm not a pro, but I am frequently put with people that have absolutely no awareness of anything.
The commendations were just a gauge of how often he must play, because no one ever gives out commendations in my games. I think I'm 1-0-2-1 after over a hundred games. And my win percentage sucks because I am so frequently stuck with morons.
I also get stuck with some weird scenarios where no one on my team speaks english (even though I only have the US East server checked), and when they find out I only speak english, they start going "fdp gringo" "capt america bitch", etc, which is hilarious to me but also really saddening that I just can't get grouped with semi-competent people that can at least communicate back and forth.
I've been getting grouped with multiple Spanish speakers a lot recently and it's really frustrating. If I'm playing a team game and half my team can't coordinate beyond pings, there is an issue.
Sadly not much Valve can do to fix that either, I suppose.
Spanish or Portuguese? Blizzard has always had a strong hold in Brazil. I was ready to strangle my lanemate last night. You know how you don't completely dominate a lane as Lion/Sniper vs Slark/Centaur? Fight the entire thing under their tower because sniper won't stop auto-attacking.
Additionally, not everyone is good with everyone hero, every roll, or can just plain have a bad day.
My match this morning was pretty disappointing. I had first pick on Random Draft and instapicked Dark Seer before going to downstairs to start my coffee machine. I get back and my team didn't draft a mid so I go after overruling a vengeful spirit suggestion (lol). So while we had a tidehunter and venge, no one bought wards or courier so I picked those up. I outlaned their Tusk in mid but our void+venge lane began feeding and my ganks began concentrating on them to help them out. Now our gyrocopter starts blaming me since he's in the other lane and is feeling ignored and overpressured. But by that point their snowball is rolling to fast to counter.
I question the decision making of someone whom -27+ minutes in, is regular boots perserverence void. I was like, "man, stop...you're not going to finish that and right now I hit faster than you do." This guy was also blind leaping into jungle spots when we had no wards providing vision and I had to explain to him why that's a terrible fucking idea.
Sucks because our team fight would have been excellent with semi competent players: DS+Tide+Void+Gyro
For the most part though this is a bit of an anomaly and I usually get teamed with relatively decent players. I think I've had only one game where I was the only English speaking person and when I do encounter Hispanics it's really never been a problem. I'm really not sure, like usually I say, you get the MM you deserve. If bad games and bad players are your rule rather than your exceptions...you may not be as good as you think you are.

It's all Greek to me. All I know is that I'm queuing for the language I can actually speak and other people don't have the decency to extend to me the same courtesy.
Additionally, not everyone is good with everyone hero, every roll, or can just plain have a bad day.

Why would you overrule Vengefull at mid? She can use the levels and she can carry in a pinch. You had gyro also... Especially against a tusk. Dude will not snowball against him if he has any sense. DS is great everywhere but does the worst in mid.

Oh god. Please don't start the English debate again. We have two distinct camps in this thread: Those who say language barrier doesn't matter, pings are all you need....and those who disagrees vehemently and believe that playing with people who can't speak your language cheapens the experience. It's always a stupid argument when it starts.
Additionally, not everyone is good with everyone hero, every roll, or can just plain have a bad day.

Well she was by far the worst player so it was ultimately better that she didn't mid but mostly because why waste a DS babysitting a void? Yes, gyro should have mid and void safelaned but gyro wanted bot so what was I suppose to do?
I still disagree with venge mid: no mobility, no lane control. I agree ds is not a great mid but is always good against a melee opponent.

If I'm in Mexico, US server's are going to provide me a better ping than Brazilian servers. I wouldn't be in the appropriate language category for either anyway so why not play in the better, more populated one?

Does US server not offer a Spanish option? You can select language when queuing independently from the server. I have no problem with Mexicans coming on US servers; of course US's server is better for Mexicans, and they should use it. I just wish everybody would check off the proper language box in matchmaking instead of presumably selecting every option to reduce queue time. For the sake of courtesy, you know?
Or it could just be Valve's matchmaking that's borked. Who knows?

I actually don't know how that interacts and if it's total from any Eclipse or per Eclipse.
I'll be doing them pretty much every night until no one shows up. If we're lucky, we'll even get enough to do a custom in-house.

It's a core item in his recommended items for some reason.

Yup. And any item that's +lots of damage is always good on BH. Deso, MKB, Abyssal Blade, all good.
God I wish I could go back to my early pub days and build radiance and just stalk people with shadow walk.
obviously not together since they don't stack
Kunkka is just the best everything, undisputed.
