Theres no Spanish, Portuguese, German, Danish, French, or any other myriad of options. Only English, Russian, Chinese.

You can play without communication, thats why they put in the wheel. That autotranslates. You can even make your own wheels, so you if you mainly play specific types of characters, you can have a set of phrases more custom built for you.

maybe we can start up a nice conversation about Elo or the Matchmaker instead...

The chat wheel is not even remotely as convenient as queuing up my mic and spouting something important out, which I can do while doing various other tasks in the game. Yeah, it's there...but chat wheels have always been kind of meh feature for that reason. They require several extra actions and breaking of focus to use.

The chat wheel also doesn't help you interpret what other people are saying on audio chat, which is problematic.

I'm shocked that Valve would implement Russian as a language option but not Spanish. Bizarre.

I recall seeing a population graph that showed Russians were like 1/4 of the total playerbase.

Ya, I dunno. I have played DotA since WC3, then HoN, then Dota 2, so I feel like I've got a pretty good grasp of the game and I know every hero. I'm not a pro, but I am frequently put with people that have absolutely no awareness of anything.

The commendations were just a gauge of how often he must play, because no one ever gives out commendations in my games. I think I'm 1-0-2-1 after over a hundred games. And my win percentage sucks because I am so frequently stuck with morons.

I also get stuck with some weird scenarios where no one on my team speaks english (even though I only have the US East server checked), and when they find out I only speak english, they start going "fdp gringo" "capt america bitch", etc, which is hilarious to me but also really saddening that I just can't get grouped with semi-competent people that can at least communicate back and forth.

Oh god. Please don't start the English debate again. We have two distinct camps in this thread: Those who say language barrier doesn't matter, pings are all you need....and those who disagrees vehemently and believe that playing with people who can't speak your language cheapens the experience. It's always a stupid argument when it starts.

Didn't realize that's an actual debate. I guess they just put voice chat in there for shits and giggles?

I'll pay actual money for them, no joke. Just need to know what they are called and where to get them. I already have the Dendrochron, but must have more little pet skins for Furion.

It is...that's kind of the joke. MMR is just a blanket term for Matchmaking Rating. Elo is a codified mathematical formula used to determine that. We don't actually know what SC2 and Dota 2 use, we just know it's not Elo as Blizzard and Valve have said so.

e: I keep capitalizing ELO as if it's an acronym, but it's not...it's a name. Arpad Elo

Yes, they are. Some items are worth more than others. Very rare or exclusive items tend to go in the 30-50 dollar range. Things time stamped with a regular tournament kill streak or player name a bit above that, and anything stamped with The International and associated with a player kill streak will net dollah dollah make you hollah.

Bounty Hunter dropped out of competitive play? From what I saw, Na'Vi at the least employed him a decent amount. Track gold is a beautiful thing.

When he showed up in the tournament he was run far different than most pubs would. Navi would regularly just have him be annoying in the early game (pulling creeps, blocking spawns, etc.), and after that, his only real purpose was to pop track on heroes and pick off targets of opportunity.

He said he paid 40 bucks for them on his stream. This is an amount inline with what I would also be willing to pay...so if anyone comes across someone peddling them near that price point, please pass it along.

For sure. Price will probably go down a bit, depending on how many of those signatures are floating around. At least it's a better deal than this dude's.

Okay, so now the question is: Was that a TI exclusive, or can I expect to see Furion plushies back in the Valve store at some point?

Also, Funn1k is really fucking good at BH and still almost fed on multiple occasions in TI3. People are used to playing against him, unlike when he first got really popular and was banworthy.

Part of the reason that Funn1k almost fed is that for some reason he assumed he could get away with windwalking near teams who were consistently on the ball with sentry wards the entire match.

  • GnomeTankGnomeTank What the what? Portland, OregonRegistered User regular
Was it called Windwalk in WC3 Dota or something? People keep calling it Windwalk, which makes me think of Windrun, not Shadow Walk.

The default invisibility spell in Warcraft 3 was called Wind Walk. The Orc Blademaster had it, I believe. As far as I remember no DotA hero's windwalk ability explicitly was called "Windwalk", but everyone coming to WC3 DotA played at least a bit of vanilla, so the name stuck.
    Yilias wrote: »

I really want a team playing against Alliance in a less important tournament to ban out or pick every hero Bulldog can play in the first round of bans and picks and then see what happens. As Na'Vi showed, the key to beating Alliance was banning against EGM and Akke and not Bulldog, but that'd still be hilarious.

Technically Wind Walk was four things; invisibility, move speed buff, attack damage buff, and unit walking. Shadow Walk only has 3 of those.

bh's invis was (is) called wind walk in war3 dota. the name change is just to avoid having war3 names to not piss off blizzard (like lothars -> shadow blade, od -> od)

/e: dota2's matchmaking system is based off of the glicko rating system almost certainly. i'd guess sc2 is as well, + some obfuscation b/c of leagues)
