Which explains why they put out a lot of related books whenever a movie hits. A bunch of Thor around now; a bunch of cap around March/April, etc. etc.

Riddick did pretty well despite being a sequel to a franchise that almost died. The Star Trek reboot was very successful.

Also, it wouldn't even be a reboot of the DCAU. It would just be films that kept the same spirit and tone of the DCAU shows that makes it accessible to a wide range of audiences.

I would be curious to see how good Secret Avengers is doing. That's a title that Marvel jumped through hoops to reflect something of what mainstream fans would be accustomed to- Coulson, a black Nick Fury, Hawkeye and Black Widow.

I want Thomas Jane Punisher HBO or Netflix TV show.

    Another Thor clip:

Kinda has a TV movie-ish feel to it. Thor's one liner is pretty good, though.

That's pretty cool but ruined my theory for what was going on there.
I'd hoped the scene with Thor teleporting in was going to be prefaced by a scene of Thor being forced to leave the battlefield and leaving his Hammer behind as a sort of "I'll be back" thing to keep morale up.

Then the hammer starts to move before they see

It's trustworthy - I've used it multiple times in the past. It's actually Eurogamer's own digital download store.

First good look at Kurse that isn't a toy.

I'm really digging the mosaic pattern to his skin, it's like his entire body is made out of wood or horn. Actually, a lot of the dark elf stuff in this movie seems to have elements of that. Malekith's scars, their guns, their ships, it all looks to be made of burnt, blackened wood.

Appealing to nostalgia pretty much defines the New 52 and its blatant 90s-isms.

Prior to that was the Infinate Crisis era with its massive hard on for Silver Age DC. DC has been kind of an anacronistic brand for quite a while. They just change their decade of focus periodically.

SuperHeroesMovieNews.com: EXCLUSIVE: We Know Who The Front-Runner For 'Janet Van Dyne' In ANT-MAN Is; The Answer Will Shock You
The new rumour that is going around says, that The Wasp WON’T feature in Ant-Man, but Janet Van Dyne WILL. The source says, “Janet will be a love interest and a major supporting character, we would see multiple references to her future as The Wasp throughout the film.” As if this wasn’t enough, the source later told me WHO Marvel and Edgar Wright had in their eyes for the role. It seems that Parks & Recreation star Rashida Jones is on top of Marvel’s shortlist for the role of 'Janet Van Dyne'. Rashida Jones is said to be Marvel’s top pick for her “chemistry with the other actors.” The source highlighted Paul Rudd and Parks & Recreation co-star, Chris Pratt. Paul Rudd and Rashida Jones have starred opposite each other in two films, those films being, I Love You Man & Our Idiot Brother.

Hm. Could work I guess. I don't see a problem. Were we really expecting to see Ant-Man and Wasp both suit up in his first outing? Even War Machine followed that formula they're describing.

I don't know that I expected it, but I thought there was a good chance of it happening. Ant-Man and the Wasp's origins are a lot more closely entwined than Iron Man and War Machine's. Heck, the Ant-Man: Season One OGN has Jan becoming the Wasp in it.

Depends on how much of the film is Pym-prelude, and how much is Lang as Ant-Man.

Though I'm now wondering if the reason Marvel mentioned looking at both Rudd and JGL is because the former is Hank and the latter is Scott

Wasp is one of the first avengers and is getting passed over for even more members of Cap's Kooky Quartet in 2, and disappeared from 1. She's a classic hero that deserves time to shine, and we need more lady heroes on the big screen.

I'm kind of new to Marvel. What, other than a long history, is so great about The Wasp exactly? That's not meant sarcastically at all, I'd love to be educated on this. Because in the few incarnations of her I've encountered, all I took away from her was that her powers were kind of lame and her personality was kind of insipid. Now, granted my largest exposure to the character is on Earth's Mightiest Heroes and maybe that cartoon mischaracterized her wildly, but I've never been like,

"You know who I should read more about? The Wasp..."

I'd love more Marvel Heroines, but I'd rather see someone like Captain Marvel or She-Hulk who both seem like they have cooler powers and personalities. Maybe that's just me.

she's outgoing and brave, she's clever, she has interesting powers, she has plenty to work with for an appearance in the MCU

she'd interact great with the other characters on the Avengers and in universe

Like Anti said, she's one of the founding members of the Avengers, so that in and of itself is pretty cool

I'll admit that my experience with her as a character outside of the Ultimate universe (which I don't think counts) is limited.

I'd say it counts given how much they've stolen from Ultimate for the movies anyway.

That would make my idea hilarious.

Back when nothing was known about Avengers and I imagined Ant-Man would be on the roster, I imagined that in the MCU Pym had done the Ant-Man thing for his research, found a way to turn it into superheroics, then designed a size-changing thing for Janet as a way to protect her--and she quickly figured out how to make herself into Giantwoman/Stature/whatevs and went superheroing with him.

Well, she's a very well-rounded character. She's got this thing where she loves fashion, constantly changing her costume, and she has her own fashion line, and she's also confident, smart, and capable. She manages to maintain an upbeat optimistic attitude, and she never accepts being a victim. After Hank hit her that one time, she kicked him right out. Almost the very next thing she did, she convinced the rest of the Avengers that she should be the team leader, even over Captain America.

I'm surprised Summer Glau isn't on a short list, that's who I thought would be the character.

Kind of neutral on the Jones choice, though she would work well if they did carry it out so that Wasp never wants to get her hands dirty and kinda be kind of a diva about the whole superhero thing as she wants to use the publicity more for her design work, that would work in her standing out compared to the others in the movieverse. She has the ability to be more offensive but she chooses to be defensive, that kind of thing. But it would probably be seen as sexist.

On a completely different subject, is anyone else watching Beware the Batman? Because I'm surprised how enjoyable that show is. I get to see Batman face off with people that aren't the usual suspects (between this and Arkham Origins, Anarky is probably getting more spotlight time than he actually deserves) and Batman spends a considerably larger ammount of time doing detectivey things. Not that it's really easy to surpass prior TV/Movie records of that, but I do love me some World's Greatest Detective action.

I'm enjoying how well the show pulls off the creepiness of the villains. The Batman as horror movie vibe is something that the movies nor cartoons have tried, so it feels like a fresh take. It also gives me hope that the inevitable appearance of the Joker will be something special.

Outside of guest spots I've only seen her in Firefly which I saw earlier this year. She seemed fine, it just seems like no one under 30 is considered for Marvel movie stuff these days.

In my mind Rashida Jones is more the regular 60's version, almost Marvel Adventures Janet. Summer Glau would be more Ultimate version.
