hitler didn't die in the bunker and felt bad for what he did so he went back in time to stop himself but then he accidentally took cyanide or something and i guess shot himself like original hitler was supposed to
Hitler Assassins all travel back in time to hitler-kill, but then they fight over who gets to kill hitler, but then it turns out that the one who wins becomes hitler for some reason

I wonder what our world would be like if you took the good stuff (incidental or otherwise) Hitler did and removed all the bad stuff he did. Then again nothing binds people together like hate and.. marching?
You shouldn't kill Hitler. Too much of a game-changer, historically speaking
That's why if you go back in time for academic purposes and accidentally kill Hitler, you have to become Hitler and make sure the timeline is maintained. That's why we have that law about that.

Without Hitler there would have been someone else. Maybe not as successful, but quite frankly the Treaty of Versailles didn't end WWI, it laid the groundwork for WWII. Shoot Hitler? But there were a dozen or more men who could have stepped into his place as dictator. Shoot them too? But the dictator is merely the tip of the whole festering boil of social pus from which dictators emerge. Why not just shoot everyone and invade Poland?

I suppose its a question of whether a man shaped the era or the era shaped a man? As was stated earlier, Hitler was a creation of the treaty of Versailles and the global economy and anti-semitism and various elements in his own life. Turn the dial on each of those and what would you have gotten? I'm sure someone is writing an alternate universe fan fiction where Hitler doesn't join the Nazis but still infiltrates them, is shot and left for dead in the Rhine and comes out of a coma in the middle of World War 2, ready for revenge.

You can't really argue that Hitler helped Germany in the long run, though you also can't really argue the cost was worth it. Of course, at this point history becomes black and white for most people with Germany being all bad 'for no reason' and America and Allies being all good. Seems the idea of a complex shades of grey enemy is too much for some people. Would be a lot easier, though.

To be fair though, I am hard pressed to think of any conflict in history where the sides were as relatively black and white as they were in World War 2. The only one that comes to mind is Genghis Khan's conquests.

I've heard speculation that had Hitler not turned America strongly against fascism the US might have gone that way. There were a great many powerful men supporting fascism back then.

Hitler didnt do a lot of good. He just sped up an inevitable situation
Judging by the buldings he commisioned he certianly wanted everyone to know he had a huge dick though
I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.

Yeah that's what I meant by 'incidental'. War, sadly, can be a great boost for a nation both in terms of morale and the economy. Also yeah, WW2 is probably the most black and white war in history. Then again I have a guy at my job who is trying like hell to convince me the South was 100% innocent in the Civil War with the North just attacking them for money reasons.
Sorry for derailing the thread though. I know we like to stay on topic in SE++.

This pretty much explains what happens when you go back in time and try and kill Hitler.
