I decided to dive into another game in my backlog: Shank. Seems cool thus far, although I kind of suck at it. Whenever I play games that have a combo meter, I always feel like a failure for not getting the counter very high at all.
I definitely wanted to try it out before playing Mark of the Ninja!
They're not really the same type of game, so you should go ahead and enjoy MOTN cause Shank isn't for everyone. Klei themselves admit that Shank was sort of a slapped together rush job that they don't regret cause of the love it got their company, but that they do regret that they didn't make it better than it could have been.

So this Splinter Cell Blacklist game is coming with my new video card. Is this thing good? It looks kinda good. The last splinter cell game I played was Chaos Theory and I LOVED that one.

It does look kinda cool. I don't know anything about it other than that I want it. Although, playing Deus Ex now I think Dishonored has spoiled me for other stealth games. Dishonored just got so many things right and I don't know that I can go back to other stealth games now.

That's a pretty admirable way to go about it. I like that they will include the originals because they aren't out to bury their past but give fans an experience that communicates with them. So yeah, it's not really censorship at all. They just revised the story based on feedback and will give people the option that they can either experience the original or play the revised edition. I personally had no problems with what was in the original. But then I never feel like I have to empathize with characters to enjoy the story being presented to me. I'm just not the kind of person that uses a game character as a proxy or personal avatar. There are a ton of people who do though, and why not give them a character that's easier to connect with?
And that means it's time for another edition of MECHMANTIS THROWS THE WITCHER FRANCHISE AT SOMEONE.
Rules are simple: Tell me, via PM, the greatest monster you've ever slain, and how. The monster can be from a video game, it could be in real life, literal or metaphorical. The "best" entry based entirely on my subjective viewpoint will receive both The Witcher 1 AND The Witcher 2.
The contest ends when I get home from work on Monday, unless I only have two entries. Then it will go until midnight EST on Tuesday.

I just watched the trailer for Outlast.
Wow.
I'm so glad that I'll have time to pick up a $20 Steam Card on payday before the pre-purchase price ends.
Garry: I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time I'd rather not spend the rest of the winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!
Anyone know if they ever patched out the Always Online requirement for Splinter Cell Conviction?
The Steam page for the game is also borked in that I can't seem to add it to my wishlist? Though I think it might be because I have the vanilla edition on my wishlist and you can't get that on Steam anymore.
The first Classic Ironman game I had a shot at winning just got torched away in two missions. I just had to shoot down the Overseer ship. And I couldn't get the weapon fragments I needed to build plasma snipers and heavies and I just kept getting outgunned over and over until everyone was fucking dead.
It's hard to post from the fetal position but here we are.

They did. To verify, I found my non-Steam digital version of Conviction on my hard drive, split into about a dozen RARs, unpacked it all so I could install it, actually installed it, then waited for 1.04 patch to download, then installed that, then waited for the launcher to download an update, then waited for another launcher update, then two more Conviction updates, then a Uplay update, and then having to find an old email to locate my serial key because the game isn't on my account even though I registered a goddamn digital fucking copy years ago, and finally launched the game with my ethernet adapter disabled... yeah I can confirm personally that it does not require a constant connection.
Sometimes I really wonder why a system like Steam is even necessary since everything is so simple already.
Playing Alpha Protocol, liking it but that damn camera, time to get the PS2 controller out.
I don't know if they ever patched the game where the hacking isn't impossible with KBAM, but I know people used to keep a controller hooked up for that very reason.
Shame about the camera, though. Alpha Protocol 4 lyfe!
I'd enter for Dead Space, but I actually just got gifted the game last week
to sell people on it: imagine if System Shock 2 and Resident Evil 4 had a baby
a creepy baby, with tentacles and spike arms.
And maybe the baby's godmother is Metroid Prime.
Controls are RE4; setting is a spaceship with audio logs. Sadly linear, though this is a personal complaint.
Locating schematics allows the purchase of new weapons. The suit gets upgraded via schematics, also; this provides more inventory space (literally, more pockets. Rob Liefeld's pouches spring to mind) and more armor (also reflected visually).
Upgrade system is interesting, if limited. Basically, as you explore you encounter 'power nodes'. Each weapon (along with the suit and modules) has a diagram of interconnected nodes. Some nodes provide bonuses - more damage, faster reload, fire speed, more clip - and some serve as connectors. There's a marginal amount of decision making on how to spend these. You can also spend a power node at some locked doors to gain access; usually, plenty of goodies are found within.
Four major 'gimmicks': a gravity module, a stasis module, vacuum and zero-g areas. The gravity module is fairly useless, except for some puzzles. Stasis is incredibly helpful against some enemies, and is also used to solve puzzles. Stasis has an charge limit, and can be recharged with the appropriate item. Vacuum is what it sounds like - you'll run out of air if you tarry; but there are items to recharge it. Zero-G areas are less fun than they sound; you can jump from one surface to another, and it's annoyingly hard to use.
Overally, it's very much worth a playthrough if anyone enjoys sci-fi horror.
though you might have to fiddle with the settings; the mouse wasn't playing nice for me. This helped me.

I almost just bought Conviction for 10 dollars off Gamefly before I realized it wasn't a Steam key.
Is Blacklight a better port this time around? I recall Conviction being a little bit butts.
At launch the PC version was having issues booting up, but the Blacklist thread seems to think it's quite good. I know I'M interested, but I'll have to pick it up after Conviction drops in price come Winter Sale so I can play that one first.
Also, anyone playing Dead Space and having mouse issues, remember to disable VSync.
Yeah, maybe it's just that I use a trackball, but the hacking in AP was...well, still not good, but at least doable, once you realized that the mouse isn't a cursor, but a a joystick, so you jerk it each time to move it

Not many people know this, but a game development team actually followed me around during my entire forum ban, taking notes on my actions, from my depressed drinking to my fits of impotent rage.
Repost for the late night/morning crew, as I'll probably be asleep when these end in a few hours.
Finally back in NYC, where I will remain for the foreseeable future.
Also apparently once Groupees sells 10,000 bundles I'll get two copies of "The 39 Steps", which is a work I've never experienced before (in movie or play or game form)
Oh, anyone who wins my giveaways, if you fall in love with the game music, I DO have access to most of the game soundtracks and I do not believe it is against the rules to give them to you since the games are yours.
I'm on the move soon, via some family times, so my PC will be out of action for a couple of weeks. My teeny-laptop has barely enough space to even fire itself up and breathe, let alone install any games beyond 50Mb efforts. So, no Steamin' for me for a while bar the occasional dabble in things like Atom Zombie Smasher and Weird Worlds.
Can anyone recommend any brilliant browser games? I've been particularly loving Echo Bazaar/Fallen London of late, for example.
Well, not many posts to go through, but hey. I have a thing. So lets see, I got C&C Red Alert: Uprising, got it all loaded and started a game. You know, I get that some games have things, but your boss? Really? If you don't know what I'm talking about, she is wearing something that a military leader would not. And honestly, it doesn't make me want to play more, it just makes it stupid. If you don't know what I'm talking about, well her outfit is sexist. Anway, rant off.
Still looking forward to a C&C title, it has been a while since I played one. So with that said, spoils.
@tuxkamen - NOPE is a thing
Hum, I might actually play it. I would have to stream it, and play in the dark though. Right? That is the only way to play. Also I like that NOPE is a thing now.
I considered entering, but I know nothing about the game. And I have lots of games, so really didn't see a point. I understand when someone gifts something to you, you picked you and that gift. But entering steam giveaways for things you don't know about? I just can't do it. Seems greedy.
And that is the end of the thread. Hum, Well another lonely night will ensue. Darn, I still have some 4 hours left at work. So, tried to brush up on my math before I take my college placement exam. Yeah, I'm going to fail. I don't remember this stuff, and I never used, What is the remainder when you take x3-3x2+x-7 divided by x+1. Right, like I know that. I want my CS degree though, and I'm sure it is better than being shoved onto a weekend graveyard shift working 2 12 hours in row and never seeing my son.
I will give the thread cartoons when I can. It makes me happier, cause I gather that people like them.

It was two missions that technically ended the whole thing (loss was too great) but I kept valiantly throwing myself into the fire for a few more.
