I'm kind of surprised more fighting game franchises haven't had moba spin-offs
I'm going to ask Santa for a Super Smash Bros moba
you're going to get coal
But what if I didn't?!
You could have different stages based on the different franchises, even if they all had the basic 3-lane layout. The towers/minions/jungle creeps could all be themed to the franchise in question.
And the champion abilities are practically already there! Just take their representations from Super Smash Bros and retool them a bit.
The hardest part would be convincing the IRS that you weren't a meth dealer laundering your money through your video game studio.
I don't understand why people continue to make mobas
Dota 2 and League of Legends already exist
Anyone who hasn't played a moba but who wants to try a moba wants to try the ones that everyone is already playing
It's like how there were a bunch of MMOs that came out after WoW expecting they were going to make mad bank like WoW and then were confused when no one actually played them
(RIP Tabula Rasa)
It's pretty much a lottery ticket. If yours hits, it pretty much prints money until the next big one is out.

Give it to me straight, Jeff. If I use Ad Block, am I a monster?
I don’t care. Do what you want, it’s not your job to help some dying business model limp on so that advertisers and the people that sell ads don’t have to learn new skills and find new ways to evolve their product.
Just know that the big “evolution” for this stuff at companies where advertising revenue is the only source of income is probably baked-in ads that start to look more like product placement than traditional ads. You won’t be able to block those.
Anonymous asked:
How do you feel about this morning's adblock controversy? Should people who use adblock die in a fire?
No, people who use adblock shouldn’t “die in a fire.” But you most certainly should for attempting to ask questions in a way to stir up shit, shit-stirrer-upper!

I'm fully ready for the return of radio ads, podcasts already do them, why not video? The amount of crying from adblockers will be even more satisfying than the content.
We will probably be testing something like this on the podcast in the relatively near future.

I don't particularly think giantbomb is guilty of this, but at what point does games journalism get so far up its own ass it becomes entirely unrelatable? I imagine you got into games because they were fun, not because you wanted to think about stuff like 'ludonarrative dissonance', and stuff like that, and I doubt the vast majority of people who play games care either.
__
The vast majority of people who play games don’t read about games at dedicated video game websites, so it probably works out just fine in the end.
Video games continue to grow and spread out. Their size and scope are changing all the time, especially nowadays. It’s only natural for game developers to put more into their games and only natural for the people covering them to investigate those aspects as they present themselves.
I find most film writing to be 100% useless to me as an occasional consumer of movies. And music criticism is only interesting to me after the fact, not as any sort of actual purchasing advice. It’ll be interesting to see if video game criticism ends up in the same spot as it continues to age.
I guess I trust the GB guys to handle the product placement style ads in a way that's not gross. Like, I look at what the Idle Thumbs guys do with their ads around Audible and I think that's fine. Hell, when they they start riffing on audible or go off on a tangent about books on audible it's often pretty funny IMO. The Thumbs have their book club side project as well so the audible endorsements is a natural fit for them too

Those are the people curating the stations' musical content but AFAIK they're not actually the in-game radio station hosts
and it's Big Boy the radio DJ, not Big Boi
