I like how the first trailer was Lauda centric, and this newest one is Hunt specific. That's how you do trailers. Plus, correct use of dubstep with Flux Pavilion.

    Fuck yes Flux Pavilion.

Edit: In response to the Rush trailer

Well I wish that hadn't given away the whole plot in a scant 2.5 minutes. That looks right up @rts 's alley though.

    +1 looks... interesting.

Yeah, kinda sucks they gave away so much, but its interesting at least.

Edit: Also still not sure how I feel about Squirrels.

I want them to either play it completely straight, or just go crazy/have fun with it. But I hope they stick with a single mood for the entire film (If its made).

Looks a lot more promising than the one that Q from Star Trek directed.

    Rush looks awesome.

+1 - how long before Google slaps them with a copyright infringement suit?

  • Wraith260Wraith260 Happiest Goomba! Registered User regular
well +1 certainly took a turn for the... i don't quite know. does look interesting though. worth a watch just to see how it turns out.

Brony looks like it could be fun too. a movie like that you'd expect to be cringe worthy and maybe a bit exploitative of the fans its depicting('lets find some really weird ones and make them all look utterly pathetic), but i'm not getting that feeling from the trailer. just a lot of guys who genuinely enjoy the show and want to share that enjoyment with others.

well to be fair that trailer for Pompeii was completely and utterly underwhelming so.... i mean seriously it did absolutely nothing to grab my attention or make me in anyway interested in the film.

+1 looks somewhere between interesting and awesome, though I wish they'd played a little closer to the chest. I was intrigued by the 1:20 mark or so, and then they just kept revealing plot. Like, stop, okay? All I could think about was the part in A Night at the Roxbury where the girls are trying to bang the guys and the guys can't stop giving pick-up lines.

Brony just looks like something that will make me sad.

To be fair, it is just a teaser.

But I spent the first half of it going "This is Paul WS Anderson?" and the second half going "well, um, ok."

  • Wraith260Wraith260 Happiest Goomba! Registered User regular
see, i think a teaser should at least spark your curiosity. it should leave you wondering what you just saw, wanting to learn more. i got none of that from the Pompeii teaser/trailer. it was there, i know i watched it but for the life of me i couldn't tell you a single thing about it. it just didn't penetrate on any level.

maybe once they start to show more of it i'll be more interested but for now its no different than if they'd shown nothing at all.

I stopped it half way through and said "I've seen enough to be interested, I'm done".

I do that all the time with trailers though, cause fuck spoilers.

    I'm sad they exist already.

so i'm the only one that's actually intrigued by the Brony trailer? seriously, it does look as if it treats the subject with respect and while i know most would say that it probably doesn't warrant that respect, that's all the more reason to do it. seeing someone truly enjoy something, to get satisfaction from something they love is 2nd only to getting that enjoyment and satisfaction first hand. the trailer seems to be about people who simply revel in their enjoyment of the show and lets be honest, there's really nothing wrong with that. hell, even in the trailer the make it clear that it'll cover the idea that its odd and seems creepy and weird, but that ultimately it doesn't have to be that way.

i'd imagine that as with any fandom there are those that take it too far, those that do make it weird and creepy. but should we really write them all off because of that? i mean, you're going to find people like that in any fandom. we don't let it ruin anything else.

There is not a way in which a 30 year old man dressing up like a licensed female rainbow pony targeted at 10 year old girls is not creepy.

    So sorry.

I'm not saying they aren't completely harmless or that people shouldn't do whatever the fuck they want, but showing up in a documentary alongside the dude with the flowing purple locks and the prosthetic unicorn horn isn't going to do you any favors, no matter how normal you are.

+1 is yet another movie where something incredibly crazy and amazing happens to the main characters and rather than having this redefine their lives, they just think of ways to make their crush like them more. Sigh.

Red band or otherwise NSFW trailers are fine, as long as they're clearly labeled as such and as long and they aren't basically outright porn.

Presumably nobody will be posting trailers for Hot Lesbian Butt-Sluts IV: The Sluttening.

I'm just surprised it took them till the fourth movie to reach "The Sluttening"

Figured that would of been I or II at the latest....

    Well, II was "Slut Harder"
And III was "Return of the Slut".

    Thanx @ElJeffe

well it is a movie based on an Irvine Welsh book so maybe i shouldn't post it.....

on the other hand, fuck it!

Just to be absolutely certain, Red Band trailer posted below.

incidentally, that trailer is the first i noticed that Jamie Bell is also in the movie. interested to see his role it in. confident that he can be convincingly Scottish after his turn in Hallam Foe.

The thing is, if you had a 30 year old woman dressed as 10 year old Link from Zelda, no one would bat an eye. So there's definitely a gender bias going on there. The obvious response might be, "Well, the Zelda series are more gender neutral in terms of audience," but then the question is why. Because the automatic assumption is that male protagonists are for everyone, where as female protagonists are only for girls.

Anyway, there was also another documentary created by Q from Star Trek:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohnuyqJyEW0

Everything about this is awful. Apparently, Q asked for $60,000 on Kickstarter for a small scale documentary, only to receive $350,000. He then lost all scope of coherent storytelling and went completely over-budget with unpaid staffers, so it comes across as persecution and pandering. When the movie finally came out, they failed to advertise it at all, tried to charge $13 for a download, and then blamed the lack of sales on piracy. It's just face palm all around.

The new documentary is interesting because they seem to do a much better job at story and camera work, despite the fact that it was probably operating on a budget of under $20,000. It seems to focus more on why people like the show, rather than what it's like to be a fan.

i think the most apt comparison is all the middle aged women who flocked to see the Twilight movies. now compare that with the idea that men of the same age would make up a portion of the audience for say a Hannah Montana movie? who would be more vilified?

now lets look again at the trailer for Brony. its about a convention for men who enjoy a cartoon that is aimed at girls. sure that seems weird, but as you move past that you get to the point where its about men who have a certain interest, getting together with other men who share the same interest. they aren't hurting anyone, they aren't socializing with the shows target audience, they're just trying to find a place to express their passion alongside others like themselves who feel the same.

i think maybe this might give a little thought, if not perspective,

I would point out that those women are looked down on a vilified. I take it you've never seen the vigorous mocking of creepy undersexed housewives that is part and parcel of every organized mockery of Twilight, especially the movies.

They aren't hurting anyone, anymore then Twilight Moms are, but they are looked down on as weird for obsessing over a kid's shows and it's got alot less to do with gender then you keep implying and alot more to do with it being a show aimed at young kids.
