While infiltrating the Universal Brotherhood building, I'm suppose to open a door to an alley where my team is waiting. I opened the door but they just stand there not reacting. If I start to head down to the Inner Sanctum, the security system acts as if my team were with me. Then after loading the next area, my character is down there alone.
Is this a bug or am I misinterpreting what is suppose to be going on?
Coming up on what I think is the end of Dragonfall. HBS definitely upped their game with mission design here, I'm pleased with how many times my decker bullshit artist was able to avoid fighting. You certainly need some combat skill, but I've gotten through a few entire missions without so much as a shot fired (though one involved some Matrix combat).
Now that the expansion is out, I figure I should go and played through the original campaign again. I can't decide what to play as though. I want to build a pistol user with either mage, shaman or decker. Any suggestions?
Shamans are more of a support class, but they do get Haste, which is one of the most useful spells around, and the Bear Totem or Great Mother Icon/Idol, which are the only AoE healing spells in the game. Their primary stat is also Charisma, which helps with the talky portions of the game. Spirit Summoning is kind of useless in combat, though.
Mages are the primary magic attack class, with more straight-forward damage spells. Why mess around with spells that make it difficult for enemies to target you when you can use spells that make it impossible for enemies to target you on account of them dying?
Keep in mind, though, that if you decide to roll a Mage or Shaman, you probably won't be dabbling in cyberware because it makes your magic suck.
Deckers are more of a utility class and while they have their uses in Dragonfall, I found them to be kind of lackluster in Dead Man's Switch. Although being a Decker in DMS does mean you don't have to take Dodger along on the Telestrian run.
Yes, although decker + assault rifle is a nice way to run DMS. (I guess anything + assault eifle is solid probably.)
A PC decker means not having to bring along an npc one on runs but also means that what is likely your best combatant is not actively participating in fights where you have active decking doing on. It's an interesting tradeoff.
Not looking forward to starting drama in the club, but I don't have the right etiquette to avoid it.
I'm pretty sure I have yet to use my etiquette in Dragonfall. And having blown through my cash on a new set of spiked knuckles, you can probably guess how I dealt with that and many other social situations.

Dammit.
Azzie mission
Those cafe kids are not going to make feel bad about sabotaging the power grid. I had to do it. So many skill checks just out of reach.
I'm sorry but I'm not going to get riddled by bullets from Knight Errant's huge ass canons in an attempt to get through a neverending gauntlet and let the only people alive that can stop a great dragon die just so they can continue sleeping in their shitty corprorate run evil neighborhood.
That mission with Dodger from DMS haunts my dreams, I can't go through that again. Not for anyone.
Besides, I'm saving the brute force appraoch for my evil runner.

By the way, is the campaign almost over?
Doing the Azzie mission so I'm wondering if it's too late to start pumping my troll full of charisma and etiquette. Realized too late I wanted him to be more of a talker.

Getting close, but there's still more game ahead of you. It's not too late for a little charisma, though decent intelligence also helps in the next mission.
I love how engrossing this story is, just keeps you glued to every line.
Yeah they really did up their game for this one. I loved the writing for DMS, but this.....this was even better. I bought a copy for a friend today, mostly because I want this game to do well so they'll make more.

Turns out this is a bug caused by manually saving during the mission.
Out of interest what did I miss when in the Pharma mission I...
Immediately shot the Rigger, at the time Blitz called me cold and Eiger approved but after the fact everyone talked about the guy like he was a real asshole. Blitz mentioned something that made me assume he was responsible for the messy deaths in the building but my group never got evidence of that one way or another (and knowing corps I would have just chalked it up to corps being dicks because thats kind of what they do). I assume I was supposed to talk to him rather then just putting a bullet through his head.
Alright, finished Dead Man's Switch. Any notes on which class to play in Dragonfall? Do the recurring party members make any class redundant? Are world interactions a little more varied between classes or will I feel like I'm missing a bunch of little stuff because I'm not a Decker.

There are bits where you can point a party member at skill challenges like that, and sometimes when its only your skills that you can use, even when your companions are right there next to you.
Some combat is inevitable but every archetype has a bunch of dialogue options or whatnot.

thanks for this, it's gonna be a week or 2 yet before i get dragonfall, but i'll be listening to it in my car for a good while i reckon.
having played a mage in DMS and ending up with an awkward split into firearms and decking i'm now convinced combat decker with shotgun and enough rigging for a medbot is the way to go. got a hankering for SNES SR levels of cyberware too.

So I enjoyed Dead Man's Switch well enough. Just having a decent, legitimate Shadowrun game was good enough for me and truth be told I had bought it more for the fan created missions then anything else. All in all I felt like I had more then gotten my money's worth.
That being said.
Dragonfall is amazing and I would probably still consider it worth my money at twice the price.
Now I eagerly await (or maybe hope) for another installment from them.
edit- To expand on that.
The plot, characters, missions, the choices (ah man the choices!) all were excellent and on par with what I'd expect from a AAA title. They really knocked it out of the park IMHO.
So if you happen to be sitting on the fence about Dragonfall, don't. Buy it, play it, love it.
Axen on

Looks like I might aswell go ahead and get the Humanis mission over.
Dietrich seems to have bugged out and can't be talked to like everyone else since he approached me about going along.
As in he didn't go with you, or he couldn't be talked to during the mission?

You know how usually you can talk to your crew after missions? I couldn't do that after Dietrich approached me at the station to go along for the humanis mission.
After he approached me, I didn't do humanis right away. I did a bunch of other sidequests and the rest of the crew would talk to me and go through the usual updates but Dietrich was in the base but without a speech bubble above him. I couldn't interact with him again at base until I beat the humanis run.
Finished my first play through of Dragonfall and am very happy with how the game turned out. A lot of solid campaign improvements over Dead Man's Switch and a bunch of options/diversity in the plot.
I am less happy with some of my in-game decisions. Let's just say my Shadowrunner may have over done it a bit and made some big calls on not enough sleep (in no way connected to my marathon play through).
Also, I have no idea what made me go Shaman again. I generally do high charisma characters in most RPGs and so going for combat options under that stat seems like a given, but spirits are such a toss of the dice. It can be a real head-ache later in the game when I have to give up all my inventory space to lug around fetishes and hope I read combat durations well enough to know when its worth it to pop out an elemental. To clarify, I don't mind when my spirits turn on me, that creates excellent tension since a monstrosity with 4 AP can trivialize a lot of combat encounters (or make easy ones much harder when it turns on you), but when I pop a spirit, only to have the game go out of combat, spirit (and 1000 nuyen) go poof, and then immediately end up in combat again when I turn the corner, it is a little frustrating.
There also needs to be a button to activate combat. I should not have to face-check an enemy to get combat going.
These things aside, I very rarely replay story/character-centric games, but I am already started on my second play through with a decker/rigger. Drones make much better pets than spirits and they don't require me to stay in hugging distance during combat.

Just beat Dragonfall. Going to start a new game playing a Combat Rigger. Played full Mage first time through. Flamethrower Lv4 FTW.

Leave it to Shadowrun to turn an easy decision into a total mind frag when you least expect it.
Unshackle the AI with the warm fuzzy face of your dead girlfriend or brutally cut it down and get pelted in the face by gunfire in the last run.
Shut off the game before committing to a decision but I was leaning towards killing it.
I remember hearing about what happened to the Renraku Arcology and I don't have a lot of examples of artifical intelligence in Shadowrun with a true benevolent agenda so it feels like I would be surrendering the flux state to a potential remorseless dictator.
That and I just watched a Lets Play of I Have No Mouth and Must Scream so I'm not feeling too trusting on the issue.
My troll has the brittlest bones in Germany though, it doesn't take much more than one good smack across the face to take him down. Going in there and brute forcing it is going to be painful.

I liked DMS, and I started a second playthrough but didn't finish it.
Dragonfall I see as being that game I install every year or three just to re-experience it.
Also Glory is metal as fuck.
If Dante didn't exist, she would be my favorite character. Never saw her backstory being anywhere near as crazy as it was.
You got to treat her like shit if you want to be buddies with her.
