Oh god no, despite the giant warnings everywhere I made the mistake of registering my code when half-asleep. And now because of their confusing account system, I have managed to register my game code to a different service account then my early access!
Fortunately their support already had a predefined option for dummies like me; time to see how bad launch support response time is
Ok, thanks for the info! Also I have gear with Materia slots in em. Where do I start off to get some Materia?
You can turn armor/weapons into materia if they are fully spirit-linked and you complete a quest that teaches you how to do so. I had done this in 1.0 but maybe it is still similar?

Why don't they tell us this before? I've been selling old gear I didn't need anymore. I always thought it was odd that it'd prompt me if I really wanted to sell my 100% spiritlinked gear...
So my Marauder currently has Flash, Featherfoot, and Second Wind equipped for his cross-class abilities at level 20.
Flash is totally awesome, guys. I have 80 mana as a Marauder, and Flash costs 30. Mana regens fast enough that I can flash every ~20 seconds. That is INCREDIBLE considering mana is essentially a resource that I will never use for anything else.
I'm maining MRD right now, and I'm not sure flash is even worth it on most pulls. As far as I can tell, outside of pulls where you can't line up all the enemies in a cone overpower is probably better than flash to spam as you can do it indefinitely. I'm sure I'll keep flash equipped for crazy pulls where dudes are around me in a 360 and I want to grab them up though. It does suck that MRD has no way outside of a bard in the party to get MP back, but that's the life of using cross class MP skills I suppose.
Honestly, provoke(from GLD 22) is the best cross class to get from them, just because as far as I can tell it's the only true taunt in the game, as in it puts your enmity at +1 over the person you provoke the thing off of like you'd expect a normal MMO taunt to do.
Also, I know it's been said, but how in 2013 does this game not have an idle kick feature? Myself and all my friends in our linkshell just logged ourselves in this morning before work and will just stay that way so we don't have to deal with dipshit 1017 errors and smashing 0.
I wouldn't even do it if they just properly utilized the queues, even if I had to queue for like 20 or 30 minutes. But I'm not going to sit there spamming 0 for 20 minutes because they have a dumb login system.

Speaking of materia... I know that a crafter is required to attach materia... what about turning old equipment into materia? How does one go about that?

I think that may be as simple as right clicking the gear and choosing convert, though the prerequisite quest is still required.

It is.
The main story quest takes you to the materia quest, so no worries on missing it if you follow that chain.
Picked this game up since Criptonic didn't have anything bad to say about it, and he's a pretty good MMO barometer. Almost done downloadaroonying. Pretty excited.
I think this game has its hooks in me. I'm only level 15 on my Lancer but it's loads of fun. The combat's pretty crisp, although a bit old fashioned. But the way you can eventually combine multi-class abilities is really neat, and the way combos work is a nice twist on the traditional system too. It's very nice to look at as well. The only thing that bugs me is there's no 'turning' animation for my character. ie, if I rotate my character just slides on the spot. Considering the level of detail this game has, that seems like a big oversight especially since WoW has had that since launch like 10 years ago so it's not exactly a new thing in MMOs. Very minor gripe though.
I really enjoy the little things too. I've made a point of exiting the game through the bed in the Inn. I'm a little bit overwhelmed by the number of things to do in the game though. I'm level 15 and I'm just bombarded with stuff. I haven't even figured out or tried crafting yet at all.
Spending all of my formative video game years playing games like Final Fantasy 2 and 3 for the SNES also mean that I kind of 'get' almost every reference. From the fanfare music when I level, to what Gysahl Greens are, to knowing what spells do what just based on the name. Question, does Vanish -> Doom work on all bosses?
I am really glad you guys gave me heads up on the server issues yesterday.
I bought the game and my wife kept looking at my screen from her WoW play session, keenly interested. I may end up getting her a copy of the game (PS3, her PC isn't the best) if it holds my attention longer than this first month. By all accounts so far, the answer to that is "yes." Other than GTA 5 coming out Sept. 17th, I think I may have found my new game to keep me tidied over for the next 6 months.
I made a Mi'Qote Conjurer on Malboro (couldn't join your server, but was able to join a friends). I am only level 6 (I think?). But I am very excited about the game. And it runs very well! I never played 11 or 14 before, so this is pleasant.
If so you probably have to do what I did. That is go to the email from Digital River, do "Find My Order" and get the serial code from it, since they haven't emailed it. Then on MOGStation click "Add Windows Service" and register the code.
So we get stiff once in a while. So we have a little fun. What’s wrong with that? This is a free country, isn’t it? I can take my panda any place I want to. And if I wanna buy it a drink, that’s my business.

Indeed, plus it is fairly useless to you until at least 15 (when you get the quest IIRC) and even then you still need a lvl 15 crafter of some style to slot the materia.
My main job is currently 22-23 and I have yet to slot any materia.
On the upside Spiritbonding gear is a fairly quick process it seems.

Got longstop and titan on my plate hopefully for later tonight! I want to work on my other AF sets but to start relics I need to clear the main story so thats up first! I logged out last night because I need to install a new GPU after work, I hope I can log back in!
On another note im thrilled that the PA community is receiving this game so well! I was quite hopeful for this through alpha and beta. We are closing in on 100k in the bank for housing once we hit it ill pledge another 25k!

Once I ensure that I am staying on this server I will venture over and make a deposit with some 1.0 cash monies.
Curious about how the servers do today. Things were actually really smooth yesterday once you logged in. I have some complaints about getting error 1017 instead of a queue when trying to log in, but I'd still rather that than not being able to do any dutys and being afraid to leave the zone you're in.
Aww, I somehow missed this thread and got my dude to 8 this morning on Cactuar thinking there wasn't a PA server.
I guess I should reroll him on your server, oh well, shouldnt take long to get him back up.
I kinda wish I was on the same server as you guys, but my friends didn't want a legacy server and had some other reasons for going on Ultros instead. Oh well.
One question: when I'm playing I feel kind of like the engine is a bit jittery. My character's motion slows down and speeds up by nearly imperceptible amounts. It's more noticeable with other players. It's kind of like rubber banding but not as pronounced. Are these related to my graphic settings, or is it just server lag and first week jitters? Has anyone else experienced this?

Are you on a JP server by any chance? I know I noticed what you are describing on those servers.
If not, then I have no clue. Might be your system, but the game seems decidedly good at running on lower end hardware.

I have an ATI card with an i5-2500k. I am running into the same "jittery-ness" that you are. It happens when I move up terrain. I am not certain it is framerate, as my framerate is usually in the 50s. I think it's the hard-drive processing new data/characters.
Just got caught up on this thread. Have a few questions.
1) How do people already have magitek armor mounts? Legacy server?
2) How does one earn the magitek armor?
3) How do I equip my CE behemoth barding to my chocobo?
4) What's the next dungeon after Thousand Maws?
Generally speaking, I'm a bit paranoid about dungeons, since Halatali is not tied to story. The only reason I unlocked Halatali is because by chance I talked to the NPC with the quest for it.
Are most instances tied to story, or are most going to be like the Halatali one where you have to find a random quest NPC to send you there?

I guess that could be it. My HD is decidedly older. I'm running at 1900x1200 with most of the settings on high, and if I'm standing still I don't really notice anything like frame-rate choppiness. But if other characters move past they'll stop and start, or slow down and speed up (but I think this is more of a server lag issue). But if I move around I notice the same thing in me, a slowdown-speedup type thing. It's very minor but also annoying. I'm hoping it clears up in a week or two.

Fixed that for you, because if the NA/EU server list won't show up when it's not peak time, good luck getting on when it is.
At least they're taking measures to fix the problems, but they won't be in place until next week at the earliest, it sounds like.
