Just got caught up on this thread. Have a few questions.
1) How do people already have magitek armor mounts? Legacy server?
2) How does one earn the magitek armor?
3) How do I equip my CE behemoth barding to my chocobo?
4) What's the next dungeon after Thousand Maws?
Generally speaking, I'm a bit paranoid about dungeons, since Halatali is not tied to story. The only reason I unlocked Halatali is because by chance I talked to the NPC with the quest for it.
Are most instances tied to story, or are most going to be like the Halatali one where you have to find a random quest NPC to send you there?
1)Legacy server
2)Completely finish Story line
3)In your character screen there is a button above your Gear set list for your chocobo stuff, you can change their barding there.
4)No idea not that far yet
5)Most dungeons are tied to story, Halatali is the exception thus far.

Question. Two of the coolest things I remember from FFXI were exp chains and combos with other party members abilities to do special damage/status effects. The former is in, is the latter?

The latter has been replaced by Limit Breaks in Dungeons. There are no weaponskill chains in this game.

Well now (perhaps sadly) that isn't entirely true.
I Logged on to Ultros (non-legacy) this morning and the first thing I see is a lvl 50 Dragoon wearing a full set of Dragoon armor riding Magitek Armor. :?

FINALLY. Tried to make a new character on a second JP server, with the only available one being Ixion, only to get told "The world is full". Quit out and restarted the client, and suddenly all servers are showing again, and I get in first time on my main character on Odin. Never logging out again. You can have this spot in the world when you can prise it from my cold, dead hands.

I am a bit disappointed with how easy it is to get Magitek. Not in a "only the most hardcorz should get it" sense mind you. It is just that leading up to release all the interviews with YoshiP and various Devs basically said it would take a long time and you had to build it piece by piece.
Instead you just finish the main story quest.

Wow, thats a major shame. I guess it depends on how limit breaks are built. I cant find good info on them right now, but if its built through good team work and maybe some combos and stuff, it could be a good replacement. But skillchains were so cool, hard to imagine how removing them would make a better game. First bad thing about this game so far

Sadly it is not. You basically just beat on the enemy until your party's Limit Gauge fills up.

The limit break meter goes up pretty normally just through regular combat although it goes up quicker if you do clutch things like heal someone who is really low for example.

The magitek mount is just a callback to FF6. Having it be easily attainable for anybody who wants it is the right call IMO. There's plenty of time for hard to get quest chain mounts and other stuff. I know for me, I'm glad I'm not going to have to undertake some crazy endeavor to get a magitek mount, because as a huge lover of FF6, I'll like having it even if everybody else has it too.
There are potentially cooler mounts to gate behind time/raid gates, and i'm sure they will.

After 1000 Maw you get to do Haukee Manor (freaking awesome story dungeon - lvl 30) after that you can run Something Something Bottom, sorry i cant remember the name right now, its 32ish, pretty cool dungeon this is when they start actually getting a bit more difficult. Then sunken temple (lvl 35) this dungeon is pretty damn hard, it isnt Story so i wouldnt worry about it. After that you can run Cutter its level 38 non story. This place is even harder than sunken temple, we wiped 5 times on the first boss and gave up. After that dungeon there is another story dungeon i want to say for level 40 but i havent unlocked it yet.

Like I said, I don't think it should of been something that only the most hardcore could get.
I just wish it was something you had to work towards instead of just receive.
Much like the Chocobo. Anyone can get it, but you do have to at least put some effort in to obtaining one. They don't just hand you one for completing a story mission.

Hmm, I read some stuff that gives a glimmer of hope it may be deeper than that. Stuff about Gladiator getting limit break fills for getting hit once hes been down to 15% health or so. If every class has some cool ways to fill the bar that is like "risky" and requires team mates help (gladiator getting heals once he almost dies, but keeps the aggro) it could be a fun system.
Still miss the idea of the skillchains though, felt like Chrono Trigger up in there!
Question!! I just logged into Mog Station but it only shows the character on JP server and not my Sarg characters. Anyone else encounter this problem?
It doesn't show my NA character either. I set up the account and logged out and back in to the game and my guy was still there on the server. Still doesnt show up in mog station yet.

I don't think playing through a 30 hour campaign is just handing you something....
And who knows, maybe some of those later quests are challenging?
I figure there should be some pretty cool reward for doing all of the story. This seems like a good one. Not sure why you think no effort is involved. What would you consider effort?
Daemon beat me to it, but going through 30 hours of story missions isn't exactly nothing. It's a reward for sticking it out all the way to level 50 and completing the story of the game so far. Doing the story missions is also optional. I understand why you feel like optional should mean "not related to main story that anybody who sticks with the game will do," but the point is it's a reward for people who go through the story.
ok thanks! I just set up the 180 Day Payment for some sweet sweet Veteran rewards. I don't think I actually get them though for 14 days because that's when my Legacy timer expires.

Yeah I am done being hardcore. So I agree that it is nice to have it behind something that is pretty much trivial to complete. If you skip cutscenes I would imagine that 30 hours, at least, halves. I have yet to get to the end game but so far this game is just a grind based game with a FFXIV skin. I am sure that raiding and hard modes will soothe that difficulty itch for me.

Honestly I don't know.
I mean, to me finishing the story is a given. Aside from the dungeons the rest is perfectly soloable (from what I hear). 30 hours is a solid amount of time, but even playing for a few hours each evening it is something I expect to finish within a week or two.
I guess I would have preferred that after completing the story you unlocked the ability to get one. Then you work for an hour to get the legs, another hour for the chest, arms, engine, and then you have a shiny new magitek armor mount.
But just to be clear, again, I do not think it should have been something that requires a huge time investment. Just an hour or so here and there for a couple days. Or five hours in one sitting.

ok good to know! Also, WHY AM I NOT SURPRISED!!! lol If my JP 3102 character is the only one that gets the vet rewards though I'll throw something.
Oh god no, despite the giant warnings everywhere I made the mistake of registering my code when half-asleep. And now because of their confusing account system, I have managed to register my game code to a different service account then my early access!
Fortunately their support already had a predefined option for dummies like me; time to see how bad launch support response time is
What does one need to do to avoid this?
Once I logged in, it showed my one account and on the right it showed my character, so I thought I was on the right account. The mistake I made in my dizzy sleepiness was that you DO NOT want to click on "Create New Service Account", thinking that this would be how you add a new service account code. Try and find any other button other than that one that lets you add a code to your service account that is displaying your beta/early access character.

Right... but the story alone is 30 hours. You still have to spend the time to get 50 as well. And playing through the story is not a 'given'. Not everyone is interested in that. Some people will get to dungeons and just grind those out. The point is it is already a time investment to get one. I'm not sure how just 5 hours more would some how make a big difference.
