Dang it, guys. I haven't played a lick of beta, never played 1.0, hated FFXI....but loved pretty much every FF prior (and since). I'm so unbelievably hyped and inspired to play this now though after reading this and the prior thread's comments, I'm going to have to pick this up now. You all seem to be having so much fun, and PA has been a pretty solid way for me to tell if I'm going to enjoy a game or not. I watched the opening cinematic, seen a few vids now.....GAH I HAVE TO HAVE IT NOW! Question: does the chocobo theme play when you take a chocobo ride and/or mount up on your own? Because if so....yeah, I may leave work right now and purchase this.

Speaking of mount themes, and with all the mount chatter... I don't know if I can use anything other than a Chocobo. I nostalgia-gasm all over ever time the music starts playing.
I only wish you could turn off the mount music because everytime I get off I am treated to a new song that i didn't know existed. This game has like the best music ever.

When you ride a rented chocobo to go from one location to the next, yes it does play the theme music. I haven't gotten the mount so I don't know if it does when you ride your own chocobo mount. Although you may want to either A) Make a toon on sarg quick or Wait a while because the server may become locked (locked from creating new toon) soon like other servers have already.
I only wish you could turn off the mount music because everytime I get off I am treated to a new song that i didn't know existed. This game has like the best music ever.
You can disable it, there is an option to turn off playing the theme when you mount.
System configuration > Audio > Uncheck 'Play Music when Mounted'

So, I just logged into Mog Station. Apparently it's a thing that if you want the "Entry" subscription plan, you can only pay for 30 days at a time. The "Standard" plan lets you do 30, 90, or 180.
So if you want get all those veteran rewards right away, you're paying an extra $6.
Oh god no, despite the giant warnings everywhere I made the mistake of registering my code when half-asleep. And now because of their confusing account system, I have managed to register my game code to a different service account then my early access!
Fortunately their support already had a predefined option for dummies like me; time to see how bad launch support response time is
What does one need to do to avoid this?

I'm not sure if you can still subscribe through the standard Squenix account area, but no reason not to do it through the Mog Station. If nothing else, it provides a user interface that's at least *approaching* modern.

After I read that not all dungeons are automatically unlocked in the Duty Finder at predefined levels, I decided to keep track of the dungeons in the game to make sure I don't miss any.
I feel like im being spoiled by Arcanist. Having my pet as a tank that i can control to draw aggro, while I cycle DOTs and then heal up my pet/anyone else around and occasionally toss some ruin when I am free is just a ton a fun. Even in normal, basic combat, I can keep myself busy by having my pet tank like 3 mobs at once while i cycle dots and heal.
I fear other classes wont give me as much to do and Ill be bored. Is this a legit fear?
Edit: I honestly feel like a 1 man party of Tank/Healer/DPS with added support status effects. No control though, but im not even sure thats a thing in this game.

Huh? Unless they changed it from the beta, the boss of the longstop is pretty much a tank and spank. Thousand maw is considerably more annoying, but that's only because people are bad at swirching targets sometimes. With even slightly competent people they're both pretty easy.
No, there's some other stuff.
The timing on his breath was tightened or something, the tank was having a hell of a time running out of it in time. I even got snagged once at the end. This runs down healer mana very quickly, which means that the healing he does if he's in his spit starts to matter.
More importantly, the toxic spit relies on your non-tanks not standing in stupid places and blocking off half the area whenever the tank has to reposition. Also, that no warning AoE knockback the boss does means melee DPS needs to be very careful to not get punted back into the spit.
So, if I'm understanding this correctly (and I understand the levels are approximates), it's around 15 for Chocobo, and 20 for Airship? Or do I have that backwards?

Ya it seems like most dungeons are unlocked by doing the main/story quest. I read there is at least one that is unlocked by some random quest.
To the best of my knowledge, there are three dungeons unlocked by side quests, all from the same guy outside of Minfilia's house. Nedrick Ironheart I think his name is.
-edit- Also the earliest you can get the airship is 15, chocobo at 20. Also 30 Conjurers can get a unicorn.
So this didnt get answered earlier. Now that i have airship, can I go do the other two starter city main plots? Or are those unavailable for me? Would make leveling up other classes a bit easier, and will let me join up with my buddy and play through with him like early access never happened!
Our standing of "Respected" with the Immortal Flames is less than a quarter of the progress bar.
I'd say we have a long way to go to maxing out all the Grand Companies (is that possible?), but it's the first real day and we're already that far. I'm sure we'll be partially fused with infinity by the weekend.
we should probably stop telling people levels for airship and chocobo since it's extremely likely you won't unlock either at 15/20 and it just gets their hopes up. everything is gated by quests, not levels. forget about levels.

You can go to the other cities and quest there.
You cannot do the other cities', uh, part of the main story quest (the lvl 1-15 portion I guess).
You can pick up other classes from those cities and do those quests.
Each city seems to have two newbie zones. From what I can tell one is for that city's portion of the main story quest and class quests. The other zone seems to have quests in it for everyone. As an example, I started in Limsa and went to Ul'dah. There were zero quest givers in the Central Thanalan zone, but Westren Thanalan had a bunch of quest givers. However when I had made a dude and started in Ul'dah Central Thanalan was full of quests for me.

Unavailable for you. For the other two cities, you'll have a couple quest hubs open, but you'll miss a few quest chains that are locked behind the story for that city. If you want to see the story for that city, you would need to make a new character.

I have gotten a ton of seals and exp through giving reg items and hq items to the grand company.

If you can manage to get to 30 without cross abilities that is probably the most efficient way to do it yes.
